T-Rex rat trap – excellent solution that gives superior rat capture. Safer to-use and easy to set than current snap traps, T-rex trap can be placed directly in a rat bait station. You can use baits – like nuts or some peanut butter – in the trap to bait. Position the trap along walls, near baseboards or in places where rats are likely to travel.
Cut around the bottle’s circumference one inch from the place where it starts to taper toward the cap. If the bottle were standing up, you’d be cutting in a long horizontal line around its circumference. Do not cut the top completely off; rather, cut approximately 90% of the way around the bottle with a scalpel or extendable blade.
I have (so far) not had to deal with rats, but in my yard, grounds and garden I had an infestation of chipmunks or ground squirrels as some call them. They were the most persistent vermin I ever encountered and were NOT nocturnal. They liked to dig and run through burrows, and would strip a tomato plant in one day by taking a bite from every fruit. AND, it was illegal to shoot, trap or poison them (“wildlife protection!”) So I had to take a stealthier route as the wife’s stupid dog would probably have eaten any poison baits.
I cut a gob from the original can (using a heated butter knife) and placed it in a metal coffee can, then gently heated it over a low flame.( I did this in my shop, because you certainly don’t want this stuff on your kitchen stove!) Be very careful to not get it too hot, as it will burn. Next time I will use a makeshift double boiler arrangement and heat it with hot water.
Not do be out done many homeowners have sought to one up Atkinson and start their own 112 year streak of mouse trap dominance. Rats that regularly find their way to our dwellings are indeed annoying and nasty pests. Unfortunately, they can surmount all the hurdles and gnaw through everything to get into seemingly impenetrable, hard-to-reach places. Moreover, they transfer serious diseases, attack humans and pets, contaminate food and make a mess. Rat control measures involve traditional and modern methods of extermination, such as sealing up the homes, using rat predators, snap traps, poisonous baits, rat zappers, glue boards and others. In all cases, the best option is to start from the removal of mess (where they find their shelter), water and food sources. You can purchase different types of snap traps or make your own homemade rat trap to get rid of coming pests.
Use your free hand to place the metal pin over the U-shaped bar. Lift the yellow trigger on the trap and insert the metal pin into the “S” side (for sensitive traps) or the “F” side (for firm). Experiment with different trigger settings; the “S” trigger setting will snap easier than the “F” trigger setting.
They never saw it coming… they came wave upon wave into the mouth of the beast. Eager to reach their last meal they crawl inside, but they find only death. The bodies pile higher and higher. The beast shows no mercy and spares no rodent. Its appetite is unending… consuming rodents and batteries without remorse.

Take care when handling or cleaning rat droppings — certain illnesses, like Hantavirus, can be caused by accidentally ingesting or inhaling small particles from rat feces.[8] Wear gloves and a face mask when disposing of rat droppings and be sure to wash your hands when you’ve finished.

If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon or make a better mouse trap than his neighbor, though he builds his house in the woods. The world will make a beaten path to his door.  Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you unintentionally trap a small animal that you didn’t intend to trap such as a lizard or snake, it can usually be released from the trap in the same manner. The nature of glue traps is that the more an animal struggles, the more stuck it becomes, so try to keep the animal calm, and keep it from sticking its nose in the glue.

Black rats, which scale trees and enter homes through coin-sized holes in attics, find peanut butter irresistible. Brown rats, which typically rummage through garbage and snake their way inside homes via tiny cracks, can be tempted with a smelly cheese.
Mice are highly intelligent. They may react differently to different types of mouse trap bait. According to the experts at Victor Pest Control (a premier multinational pest-control service), it’s important that you use the best bait for your particular mouse trap situation. You should try different bait solutions until you find the best mouse trap bait for your particular “infestation”.
Use poison traps. Poison-based rat traps usually come in the form of a pre-packaged poison “station.” The station is placed in a spot where the rat is likely to come across it, the rat eats it, wanders away, and eventually dies. While poison can be an effective way to kill rats, out of all the trapping methods, poison usually poses the most serious danger to small children, pets, and so on, so it’s crucially important to use these sorts of traps responsibly.
My neighbor refuses to clean up after her dog and there is dog feces on her patio. I saw a large dark furry creature scurry across my patio at dusk last night heading in her direction. Do dog droppings attract rats?
Check the trap frequently. When you see the tube sticking upright out of the trash can, it means the trap has been sprung. Look down the tube to ensure the mouse is within. Remove the tube and, keeping it upright with the open end up, take it at least five to ten miles from your house, preferably in an area free of housing.[3] Dump the mouse out of the tube gently in a field or meadow.
Plan ahead to eradicate a large group of rats in one night. To do so, select a bait area, such as a pile of grains, bark or other natural areas where rats congregate. Then bait a large number of traps with peanut butter, and leave them unset on in the area.
The Rat Snap Trap has a removable cup so baiting can also be done prior to setting the trap. After baiting, open the trap by pinching, like opening a clothespin, until you hear a click to indicate it has locked into place.

1) Are you okay with having to dispose of the bloodied carcasses of dead mice? Snap mouse traps are highly effective, but they often leave a bloody mess. You need to physically unlock the dead mice and dispose of them. Then, you need to wash the equipment before reusing it again. It an effective way to deal with these little pests but it is not something that people with weak stomachs are able to deal with on a regular basis. There is a huge reason why it is a popular mouse trap, it gets the job done, it does it a little brutally but it definitely serves its purpose.

If you notice you have a mouse problem, do not just go out and buy the first available mouse trap. You need to evaluate several factors before deciding on mouse traps that are ideal for your particular situation. Here are some of the questions to consider:
Experts will tell you that even if you skip the bait but place the rat trap in the right location, you will have success. On the other hand, the best bait and a poorly placed trap are unlikely to lead to results. This involves inspecting the attic and looking for the rat paths. These rodents go over the same paths repeatedly and you can typically recognize them by their grease and droppings. Place the traps along these paths and you don’t really need to use bait. If it makes you feel better, put some peanut butter or dried fruit on the traps and wait for it to work.
Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the end of the arm bar under the yellow pedal. Please take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side and trip very easily.
Trapping pesky rats has never been easier than with this excellent Set option. The trap is set in 1 simple step – easy and fast. The rat can be released with the help of lever while you stand away from the trap.
The chipmunk trap is just like yours, in that you have an access (board or thick stick) and a bucket. In this case it should be half full of water, and you use birdseed-grade sunflower seeds. I would take about a half cup, sprinkle it on top of the water, bait a few on the stick, and go to work. In the evening, check the bucket and usually there was a drowned (or drowning – not for the squeamish spouses) chipmunk in the bucket. My record was 6 in one day. Whether they were jumping in to eat the seeds, or thirsty and going after the water, I don’t care as long as it worked.

Thanks for the great idea. I have a glass with a coin and peanut butter set up right now. I got 2baby rats as pets that are still quite afraid and was cleaning their cage and put them in a huge box. Didn’t realize such a tiny baby could jump so high. Needless to say I have a baby rat loose in my suite. Hope the glass trap works. Will let you all know.
Obtain a long cardboard tube with one end closed. The tube might be from a paper towel roll or poster. It should be at least 12 inches long, 2-5 inches in diameter at its mouth, and have one end stopped with tape or with a cap. Place something soft in the closed end such as cotton balls or a wad of soft fabric.
Is there any way I can get mice out of my room without telling my family? I’m 14 and my room was messy. It might not be my fault but I’ve seen two mice and I’m afraid my family will get mad if I tell them.
Basically what prompted going this route was that my cat recently caught two in one day in the bushes of my yard – finally giving me the hard evidence of the rats out there. I called pest control and the rep quoted $350 for a 1 month monitoring with bait traps to capture – no poison, again for the reason stated above that they might go into walls / crawl space and die and smell terrible. Oh and no guarantee on catching anything. Seriously? $350 for *maybe* some success? I might as well spend $40 for *maybe* some success with my own trap and if it doesnt work, return it.
Place the bottle in an area where rat infestation has occurred. Position the bottle so the opening is an entrance. The rat can not escape once it enters because the toothpick prevents the barbwire from swinging outward.
Glue traps don’t require any bait at all, and they are safe for children and pets (at least pets larger than a hamster). However, either the rat dies of starvation or thirst, or you have to take appropriate precautions to avoid getting bitten when you remove the angry trapped rat still alive on the glue trap.
The process of zapping a rat often results in the rat releasing the contents of its bladder.  If there is a build up of rat urine in the trap it will eventually foul the contact wires in the unit.  Take the time to clean the inside of the trap with a damp cloth whenever it looks dirty inside.  Make sure the power is disconnected and the batteries are removed before cleaning the trap.
The advantage is that its kills can be easily disposed, and it can be quickly cleaned. Since it is a Snap trap, there will likely be a bloody mess each time a mouse is caught and killed. Definitely, one of the messier mousetraps out there but don’t be discouraged because it probably the works the best amongst all the available products online. I’d vouch for Snap-E mousetraps any day of the week.
