After reading around similar ideas, I put a few inches of water in the bottom so the mouse couldn’t jump out. Seems the common mouse can leap tall buckets in a single bound. The critter drowned and then froze solid, but I doubt I’ve endangered the species.

While this device is designed to deliver no-blood kills by squeezing the caught mouse hard; that may not always be the result it produces. If the rat is relatively small, this device may invariably cause it to bleed. Additionally, as the snap-back top falls on the mouse, there may be unintended “mess” (e.g. mouse poop) released in the immediate vicinity of the trap.
Since rats prefer enclosed, safe locations, use Protecta Bait Stations with the T-Rex Snap Traps. These stations will shelter the rat; encouraging it to enter and protect non-targeted animals and children from the harm of the snap trap. The Victor Snap Traps are fine traps, but its height will not fit into bait stations. If this is the case, you can get a cardboard box, cut holes in it and place it over the Victor Snap Trap. This method is not tampered resistant, however.
The problem could also manifest in your garage or backyard, in which case it would be helpful to make your property less inviting. This is possible if you tightly seal away garbage, rake leaves away from structures and keep all kindling and firewood stored at least one foot above ground.

The modified snap trap approach is a little more difficult to make but can provide good results; A rat snap trap, coffee can, small gauge wire and some hardware cloth with some screws is what you’ll need. First attach the trap to the can by screwing the wood just under the tongue (trigger) to the front of the can. Next cut the cloth about a 1/2 inch bigger than the size of the can. Place the cloth on the back side of the can and mold the edges slightly down around the edges. The concave or protruding side up, use your wire to attach it to the spring loaded snap wire of the trap. The long trigger release arm goes through the cloth and sets the trigger. Test the trap out to make sure the release arm does not block the cloth from covering the entire mouth of the can when it shuts. Bait the back of the can with nuts or peanut butter and set the trap. (you can also attach a board for stability to the back of the can) Catch the mouse alive and release him away from the home.

Both of these traps allow for disposal without touching the rat. The SecureKill Rat Trap has a grab tab for easy disposal. For easy clean up, dispose of the trap and the rodent together. If you would prefer to reuse the trap, pinch the trap open and drop the dead rodent in the trash.
Place the trap in an enticing position. Place it in areas like along a wall or a high-traffic area near a mouse hole. When the mouse enters the bottle to eat the cheese, pull back on the string looped around the skewer sticking out of the bottle’s bottom. The bottle will snap closed on the mouse, trapping it within.

No doubt, the best way to catch a canny rat with a sticky trap is by putting some bait – bacon or peanut butter – inside a circle of the trap. Rats will have to cross the tape to get the food and will be caught.
Even though rats have tiny heads, they are not as naive as people often assume. A rat will be suspicious of new objects in its environment. This applies to rat traps, which could fail to lure prey if placed cold turkey out in the open.

The bait should be positioned in a way that will provoke a canny rodent to fully enter it. When it comes to bait selection, dried fruit, peanut butter or gumdrops will be great for both the roof rat and the Norwegian rat.

Secure a timber ramp from the ground to the top of the glass container. The rats will fall in but will not get out due to the slippery oil and glass sides. GUARANTEED to work and to go on working…..

After caching my finger in one of the old fashion spring traps, I decided to give these jaw traps a try. They are very easy to set and there is no danger of getting your finger caught in them. I was leery about the quality, since they are plastic. The first night, I caught a big pack rat. Cleaned and reset the trap, then caught another rat the second night. Went to Lowe’s and bought 3 more of these traps. The third night I caught 3 more pack rats. (see attached photo … Photos don’t lie). These rats built a nest in my pickup truck engine and also ate up some of the electrical wires. I’m looking at close to $1000 to have my truck repaired. Even if these traps don’t last more than a few catches, I still consider them money well spent. I have already recommended them to several people; and will continue to do so.

A great option for someone who has accepted that they will be battling with mice for a while (in some areas they will never completely go away – especially in large cities) and does not want to keep buying mouse traps. Also a great option for you if you do not want to deal with a bloody mess left from a typical snap trap.

A: The glue from all our traps can be removed easily. Liberally coat the glue on the paw with vegetable oil. The oil will dissolve the glue within a short period of time. The oily residue can then be removed by washing with mild soap and warm water.
Rodent infestations can be a real nuisance to any business or homeowner. Rats and mice have a way of multiplying when you least expect them, so the best way to combat the problem is to invest in a reliable trapping mechanism that is capable of taking care of these pests as quickly and as humanely as possible. However, it’s important to realize that these rodents are intelligent creatures that are both aware and suspicious of their surroundings.

When I was dealing with an infestation, I learned a lot about rats and how to deal with them. In some ways, they’re fascinating creatures, and knowing how they behave actually helps when it comes to dealing with them.
