Big momma rat has no chance with the victor electric rat trap. Just a little peanut butter, turn it on, ZAPPP, and dump it out! This one was so big it would hardly come out of the chamber when finished.
A: Place the trap inside a small cardboard box that has enough height to allow the trap to snap. Cut a 3″ x 3 opening on two opposite sides of the box. Place the box with a baited trap in a known rodent path.
When I finally succeeded in my task, a battered and disheveled mouse, with missing clumps of fur, limped off into the night. Many trapped animals end up breaking or chewing off their own limbs in their struggle for freedom.
Atkinson’s device was made with a weight-activated treadle as the tripping mechanism for a rodent’s successful capture. It was capable of slamming shut in 1/38,000th of a second, a record that has never been beaten by any other snap trap. Atkinson sold his mousetrap patent in 1913 for one thousand pounds to Procter, a company that has been manufacturing the the device ever since.
I just purchased these. I went on YouTube, watched a 30 sec video on how to set it and got 4 of them baited with peanut butter and set. Took 1 min max. I’m not sure why so many people can’t get them set??? I’ll write another review tomorrow….hopefully with some dead mice under my kitchen sink !!!
Rats have been the bane of human civilization for as long as there have been humans. These enterprising rodents were originally forest dwellers that took their rightful place in the animal kingdom. However, as the human population grew and developed civilizations, rats adapted to a life of living off human food waste. The rats targeted by rat traps have become pests and are known specifically as black rats, taxonomically named rattus rattus.

Glue traps don’t require any bait at all, and they are safe for children and pets (at least pets larger than a hamster). However, either the rat dies of starvation or thirst, or you have to take appropriate precautions to avoid getting bitten when you remove the angry trapped rat still alive on the glue trap.
Cut the plastic bottle, or similar container, so that the hole is large enough for a rat to get inside. You want to use a tall plastic bottle so that the rat is unable to climb out. Make sure not to make it too big. Try to keep the slopped part at the top to prevent the rat from getting out. If you are still wary about the possibility of the rat getting out, then you can grease the top of the bottle to make it too slippery for the rat to escape.
Set out unset rat traps can be buried in grain, sawdust, or similar materials within an empty cardboard box or pie pan. Place the rat bait in small pieces near it and above it with the hidden trap below. Once the rats start taking the bait, set the traps. If you see one, there is usually more. And they don’t leave on their own accord. I reset the trap after 11 o’clock that night – way past my bed time. Checked the next morning and one of his girlfriends couldn’t resist the cheese. Disposed of her and reset. You guessed it, caught another one! Three dead rats.
After caching my finger in one of the old fashion spring traps, I decided to give these jaw traps a try. They are very easy to set and there is no danger of getting your finger caught in them. I was leery about the quality, since they are plastic. The first night, I caught a big pack rat. Cleaned and reset the trap, then caught another rat the second night. Went to Lowe’s and bought 3 more of these traps. The third night I caught 3 more pack rats. (see attached photo … Photos don’t lie). These rats built a nest in my pickup truck engine and also ate up some of the electrical wires. I’m looking at close to $1000 to have my truck repaired. Even if these traps don’t last more than a few catches, I still consider them money well spent. I have already recommended them to several people; and will continue to do so.

If you have a rat infestation and you are looking for an alternative to poison, but want to be able to make multiple catches, then a multi-catch rat trap is the way to go. Poisons kill rats, but then the decomposing rats leave horrible odors within walls and hard-to-reach places. Avoid this stench by using a trap that can catch and kill dozens of rats each time you bait it. This method is called the bucket trap and drowns its victims.

But why peanut butter? Do rats like peanut butter? In fact, they absolutely do. There is little information regarding exactly why rats and peanut butter go together so well – or how anyone found out that they did. Regardless of why and how, it has been tested and proven that one of the best and most trusted ways to bait a rat is by spreading the yummy, sticky substance that is peanut butter right onto a trap. Place cheese or other treats such as bread or peanut butter at the very back of the plastic bottle, and place the bottle at the very edge of the table where it will fall off when weight is added to it. The idea is that the rat will go into the bottle to get the treat. The weight will then cause the plastic bottle to fall off the table and hang suspended by the string. The little guy will then patiently sit and eat his treat while waiting for you to get home and let him outside.

Let’s do a quick recap of how these devices work. An electric rat trap consists of two separated metal plates connected to a power supply. When a rodent steps onto the metal plates it completes an electrical circuit and the sudden power surge kills the rodent. Instant electrocution via 7000 volts.
How it works – the rat is lured into the trap by using a lure or food. When the rat enters the trap, it steps on a metal “trip” plate at the rear of the trap and releases a door. This seals the rat inside the trap so that it can’t escape.
Be patient because rats are neophobic. They steer clear of new items in their environments. If you are going to use a snap type trap or a rat zapper, put out the bait without the trap for a day or two. Let the rats get used to the presence of the bait. Then use the same reward to bait the trap.
