Price:  There are about fifteen different models available that cost between $40 and $50 dollars.  There are a few models priced at over $70.  The higher priced models offer NO benefits over the lower priced ones.
Trying to figure out exactly what is the best bait for mouse traps can be difficult, especially if you are not getting the results you wanted. However, using the insider information above – as well as some good old-fashioned common sense – you should have no trouble getting great results and getting rid of mice fast.
I find a splash of Pine Sol to be helpful with dead critter stink. Don’t know if it will deter the buggers from coming to the bait, but it probably won’t, in itself, kill anything else that comes along. Bec is right, ethylene glycol is highly toxic . . . but attracts animals due to its sweet taste. Don’t wan’t to kill the birds and bees and dogs and deer . . . just the rats.
To trap Roof Rats, set traps on tree limbs, under vegetation on a backyard fence or trellis, or on other aboveground locations roof rats are known to frequent. Fasten the traps with wire to overhead pipes, rafters and beams.
Rats tend to be cautious of new objects in their territory. Pre-bait your trap to get your rat used to it before you set it up for a catch. To pre-bait your trap, tie the trap doors open and place bait inside. Position your trap and wait about a week before setting it up for a catch.
When I was dealing with an infestation, I learned a lot about rats and how to deal with them.  In some ways, they’re fascinating creatures, and knowing how they behave actually helps when it comes to dealing with them.
Rats and mice don’t see well, especially when it’s dark, so they follow baseboards, walls, and other straight lines.  When the glue board is placed along a straight line, the rat will usually run into it.  Sometimes they will jump over it, and if that is the case, then using 2 glue boards end to end is the solution.
This Hoont rat trap is totally different from other traps mentioned in this review, as it can work in 2 modes: it can be powered either by an outlet or by 4D batteries. In addition to at-a-glance monitoring, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap offers a hygienic, no-touch, no-see disposal—simply tip to safely dump the dead rodent directly into the trash.
I prefer it to snap traps because of the lack of blood and gore – the body is very easily disposed of without leaving a mess behind which is a potential hazard to chickens, pets, wildlife or children.
ok, so we live in a wooded area… recently one of the vacant lots next door was cleared and we had an influx of rats and mice in the attic and everywhere else. we don’t have food out, or pets, nor small children… so we went to war thinning their numbers. we’ve done the ‘pet/child safe’ trap, the standard wood-spring trap and now this one. this one is easy to set, reusable and does its job for the most part. i say that because with mice, they were dead on the snap. the rats… well they unfortunately suffer a bit because of their much larger size.
It’s a #1 Bestseller Electronic Rodent Trap on Amazon.com! Rat Zapper Classic trap is a one of the most effective and the fastest electronic traps on the market. This opinion based on the Amazon customer reviews (more than 2300) that are full of good words about it. Many people say that it catches more than 100 mice per battery change. And the result (first caught a mouse) have seen the next morning.
This is a great mouse trap. Don’t let haters of this device fool you. Unfortunately, some mice just learn to deal with traps, and that’s that. They are mammals, they can learn, and rodents are pretty sharp. Sucks to be you if you have mice that are too smart for this type of trap, and you will have to put out some kind of poison, more likely than not. This DOES NOT make the device faulty!
I’m not aware or rats covering their holes. They may push debris back behind them as the gnaw their way through your home. To answer your question about the best bait, are we dealing with a black rat or a brown rat? Depending on the time of the year, you might want to use nest building material as bait.
The small unit can be set with the touch of a finger or even a toe. It’s so easy that a child can fill the removable bait container and set it. The bait cup has ample space to allure the rat, and is easy to remove to fill or clean. The Rat Snap has special interlocking teeth so that no rat can possibly escape. Are you tired of the old-fashioned traps that rats have learned how to wiggle out from? Do you want to catch the rat but don’t want to see or touch it? This trap allows you to dispose of the rodent without touching it.
Most important tip: I found that Rats got very inventive at licking or grabbing the peanut butter or bait from the airholes in back, so I just took an old metal box and blocked it so they had to go into the front to get the bait…. they still love the bait, they just aren’t able to steal it anymore.

I’ve used glue traps in the past, and it strikes me as a horrific way for the rodent to die, especially if you don’t see it immediately and dispatch the little guy humanely. So spring traps it is, for now.
Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.
If you don’t want to kill rodents in your house, then it’s a great choice for you. This is the best live rat trap which you can find. Its clever design allows you to catch even light weight animals like a small mouse.
Change of plans. This bucket trap may work for mice but not for this nemesis! As Roy Scheider, star of Jaws, said when he laid eyes on the shark, “Your going to need a bigger boat.” When dealing with Ratzilla and his kin, you’re going to need a bigger bucket!
A lot of people are suspicious of whether home rat traps will really work or not. Anyway, the reality of the situation is that if you make them correctly. Also put them in the right areas of your home where there is high population of rodents. It is sometimes unclear why originally built rodent traps may not work to rid you of rats while homemade ones will work successfully, but it happens.
I drilled out a 12 inch piece of wood and put a hangar through it. attached it to the bucket and tied off one end with string attached so the stick would support the weight of the mouse. as soon as the mouse hits the half way point the stick swivels and plop ! in to the bucket he goes.

Take a bent metal strap and screw it on the sides of the can at the bottom of the outside of the can. You want the rat to be able to push the lid inwards to get inside, but not be able to push the lid outwards to get back out.
Rats infest homes and cause destruction to the areas of the house they live in. Ridding your home of rats requires patience and a plan. The plan usually involves an expensive mousetrap that you may not be able to afford, or involves a messy mousetrap that causes a horrifying scene at cleanup. Homemade mousetraps can cut down on costs, while leaving the gory scenes to a minimum.

Snap traps are the most practical option due to their low cost which lets you affordably place and set many traps at once.  However, snap traps are a little hard to use and some folks prefer other options.
Ammonia-soaked cotton balls or rags will drive rodents out (they hate the smell). Place them in areas where rodents, droppings, or nests have been seen, and be sure to give the animals a few days to leave. Then, to keep unwelcome “visitors” out, seal entry points using foam sealant, steel wool, hardware cloth, or metal flashing. If any rodents need to be removed from homes, this can be done with humane cage traps. PETA has carried a “smart” mousetrap in our catalog for years because it’s effective and humane, and it’s one of our top-selling items.
These work as good as they look. They are strong and hold up even in water after i drown the rodents in a bucket of water. Only complain is that they pricey for only two sticky boards, would give it 5 stars if they weren’t so expensive but they work really well. Have caught 2 mice at a time on each board when i placed them in my garage.
Dog poop is not at the top of the list of preferred foods for rats. It may eat it if there is no other food available, but I agree it will have a tendency to encourage them in contrast to repelling them. In addition, dog poop is not very hygenic to have about the place. Have you tried contacting your local authority to see if they have any policies in place relating to this issue?
