The Rodent Terminator has two unique features that make up for the lack of a plug in options.  The trap comes apart into two separate pieces for cleaning which completely prevents ANY chance of accidentally shocking yourself when you wipe it down.  This trap is also one of the few that can be left in the rain without permanent damage.
The best bait for your trap may depend on the species of your rats. In North America, two species are most prevalent: the Norway rat and the roof rat. The Norway rat is usually found at or below ground level in burrows, basements, sewers and dumpsters. The roof rat is usually found higher up – in trees, cliffs, attics and higher levels of a home or warehouse.
This big boy lived in my backyard jungle paradise for months, maybe years. He evaded every trap I set for him, even ate a pound of rat poison…..think it just fattened him up. Tunneled under every yucca, palm tree and raised planter he could find. Then came the TOMCAT. Just placed a bunch of them along his poop trails, perpendicular to the perimeter block walls up in the raised planter terraces. Waited weeks for him to make the fatal error…….then just last night, he strutted right onto the trip plate. Didn’t even eat the bait in the cup………….SNAP the jaws went down and that was the ender for him. Got to say, he was a smart fella……took a while but even the most cunning rat gets trapped.
The first rat traps were inevitably made by hunters that fashioned snares to catch them with, much like the snares made to catch rabbits, squirrels and other small prey. The Middle Ages brought with it the first spring loaded traps, and variations of these are still in popular use today.
Ammonia-soaked cotton balls or rags will drive rodents out (they hate the smell). Place them in areas where rodents, droppings, or nests have been seen, and be sure to give the animals a few days to leave. Then, to keep unwelcome “visitors” out, seal entry points using foam sealant, steel wool, hardware cloth, or metal flashing. If any rodents need to be removed from homes, this can be done with humane cage traps. PETA has carried a “smart” mousetrap in our catalog for years because it’s effective and humane, and it’s one of our top-selling items.

If glue boards are used in rat control, then the Trapper Tunnel is recommended. The Trapper Tunnel is a piece of heavy cardboard that is shaped like a tunnel. The glue board is placed inside of the tunnel to help keep it protected from dust, dirt and falling objects.  This can help double or even triple the life of the glue board.

Once crimped, insert the wire into both holes. You will need to bend the second side of the wire to get it in the hole. Just straighten the wire after it’s through the hole. Center the can over the bucket opening and bend the spare wire on the outside of the bucket around the bucket rim to keep the can centered over the bucket.
The most common rat trap going is essentially a giant sized mouse trap using a spring mechanism mounted to a flat piece of wood. It has a bait cup or a bait station which when disturbed, releases a spring-loaded arm that snaps shut onto a rats neck with sufficient force to cause instant death. These “snap traps” are available in different shapes and sizes, but all employ a spring-loaded arm that snaps shut when a rat takes the bait.

Product didn’t work, the first night I set it up – the rodent took the bait without exterminating it…it also chewed thru the adapter. I contacted Garden for a replacement adapter and they said they’d look into it in their first response but now their support email account is rejecting my follow up emails (which is very strange)…but now the 30 day return window is closed (coincidence, I think not).
Almost impossible to set. If you have excellent fine motor skills and you do miraculously succeed in getting the tip of the metal bar to stay under the 0.01mm margin of space under the plastic pedal, the thing is so sensitive at that point that even lightly setting it on the floor causes it to snap. So frustrating when you’re already in the midst of a war against mice. And don’t believe the other reviews saying that it’s necessary for the trap to be this sensitive — it’s NOT. I have used far less sensitive traps with great success. Another complaint is that you need to use needle-nosed pliers to remove a metal staple to free the metal bar. I shouldn’t need to go hunt down a tool just to use a mouse trap. Such a terribly-designed product. I will never buy Victor brand traps again.
Electronic traps are quick, safe to use and are a very humane way to kill a rat. They are also highly effective but also highest priced rat traps available. They also must be checked regularly, but the best ones have a warning light to let you know that a rat has been caught. You can check it from a distance, and if the light is on, you can empty the trap. However, like all stationary rat traps, be careful that the rats don’t become trap wary. You may want to move the trap to a different location after every successful kill.
If you must place a trap parallel to a wall, place it toe-to-toe with another trap facing the opposite direction. This will make it easier to catch a rat coming from either direction. Otherwise, keep your traps spaced at least 15 feet apart from one another.

Most likely it can’t as its entrance is not large enough so probably a kitten won’t fit inside. The same is true for the bait. Use sunflower seeds which attract mice effectively. A kitten will hardly eat them. It can attempt to get there out of curiously, but no one is immune from that. I haven’t heard anything about pets being electrocuted by electric traps, so I don’t think there is anything to worry about.
One way to safely catch rats in an area that is accessible to pets and children is with a Havahart live trap.  There are many models of this basic live trap available but this one specifically made for small rodents.
This type of trap is made using a special adhesive applied to the board, cardboard or plastic tray. Glue is applied to the center of the trap: it often has a flavor pleasant to the rats. It’s not recommended to put traps outside because of natural conditions (humidity, dust), which quickly bring glue into disrepair. Catching rats on such sticky tape is very convenient.
The bait should be positioned in a way that will provoke a canny rodent to fully enter it. When it comes to bait selection, dried fruit, peanut butter or gumdrops will be great for both the roof rat and the Norwegian rat.
The all-weather housing allows the trap to be used indoors and outdoors while the 2-chamber designs make cleaning easy. It delivers a heart-stopping shock that kills the rat or mice in a humane manner without blood, splatter or any other mess.

Rats are smart and they are inherently cautious.  Kill as many as you can at once before they get wise to your plans.  If the rats figure out how to avoid the traps then you will need to switch to poisons.
These are the best rat traps of 2017, and therefore choosing anyone will be a good choice for you. You can pick anything which suits your budget. They are all capable of eliminating rat population from your home.
Most important tip: I found that Rats got very inventive at licking or grabbing the peanut butter or bait from the airholes in back, so I just took an old metal box and blocked it so they had to go into the front to get the bait…. they still love the bait, they just aren’t able to steal it anymore.
Place a treat inside the can to lure the rat to go inside the can. The idea behind this trap is that the rat will be lured into the can by the treat and once the door shuts behind him, he cannot get back out.
Even though no one truly knows the origin of the black rat, the earliest traces of human co-habitation come from Southeast Asia, although there are fossils of the black rat from prehistoric times in Europe. Needless to say, this symbiotic relationship between rats and humans happened early on, and the species has become so specialized, many scientists speculate that if the human population ever died out, black rats would go extinct too.
Only unfortunate thing is, if you use these outside near areas that little birds congregate, they are sensitive enough that the birds can sometimes set them off. Which doesn’t end well for the bird sad to say.. But, I usually pour one out for the dead birdie if that happens, and move on..
Each of these traps is set similarly. For the TOMCAT SecureKill Rat Trap, place peanut butter or TOMCAT Attractant Gel into the bait well prior to setting the trap. Pull the set bar back until you hear a click to let you know that the trap is set.
Mice are crafty little creatures. They may try to sneak away with the bait before getting caught. They will communicate with each other, share tips, tricks, and tactics for stealing bait from the mouth of the trap without ever getting caught.
Place the trap along a wall where the rodents have been traveling. Set the teeth of the trap so they face the wall. Rodents traveling along the wall will run onto the yellow trigger and release the trap.
Benefits: Victor traps can be used to release rats safely from the glue traps with a bit of oil. With Victor Glue traps you can save money on rat control and fight your rat infestation at economical price.

Please pass this on to Bill Kelliher… it seems that users can’t answer other users comments. I have had one for 5 + years and am ordering an other. At first it didn’t work and at the time the how to use instructions were different and of course I didn’t read the instructions but called int to say that it wasn’t any good….. Here’s how I was told to use the trap and it works very well: 1- leave the zapper OFF and put peanuts on the floor close to the entrance 2-wait till the pea nuts have been eaten 3-repeat step 2 4-still with zapper off place peanuts half way into the trap and again wait till all peanuts are gone 5-turn zapper ON and place peanuts on the kill plate and VOILA a dead rat. NOTE: Rats are very intelligent and if bait is placed at the back on the first try, the rat will go in for the food but very slowly and will cense the electricity with it’s whiskers and back off. By doing the above steps it will build the rat’s confidence and it will charge right in to eat. AND BY BY RAT.
