Make sure that rodents are the culprits taking the bait from your trap.  Many times the thief is actually not a rodent; cockroaches, crickets and even ants could be making off with your bait.  Try dusting the area around the trap with a non-repellent material such as flour; this will reveal footprints to identify the pest.  Also, glue boards located next to your traps will capture insects and mice.
I got what I think was just one mouse in the house. And I actually was greatly relieved when I caught it. I bought the Tomcat attractant gel, and plopped a few of these little suckers around. Within an hour of bedtime, I heard a bunch of ruckus in my bathroom. My two cats (those lazy jerks), were fighting over the mouse that was stuck in the trap! ONE HOUR. I felt slightly squeamish, but I felt it was my duty to see what the damage was. I’m a compassionate individual, and I didn’t want to continue using a device that was inhumane.
Caught the chipmunk outsmarting the wooden snap traps for the last two weeks in about 15 minutes. I think it figured out it could flip the snap traps over and trip them then eat the bait (peanut butter). Baited this trap with a pinch of birdseed. Trap set easy and the release takes very very little force. Heavy spring snaps these jaws shut with authority.

Big momma rat has no chance with the victor electric rat trap. Just a little peanut butter, turn it on, ZAPPP, and dump it out! This one was so big it would hardly come out of the chamber when finished.
It’s happened too often and more times than not, we find ourselves with out a mouse trap in the first place while they have infested our cellars, attics, garage, cabins, you name it, they just waltz in like your crazy Aunt and Uncle, no heads up, no door bell, just one day you get a, “Oh hey, didn’t see you there.”
A: Rodents will travel the same pathways over and over. Those pathways are always along the base of a wall or similar vertical structure. Traps should always be placed in the pathways. Pairs of traps can be employed since mice will often jump over obstructions in their normal path.
A: Electronic rat traps are the quickest and easiest way to catch rats. They are easy to use, with no setting or glue required. Their no-touch technology, plus 100% kill rate makes them an ideal way to control your rat problem. If you would like more information on how to catch a rat, view our complete guide below.
The video below shows another bucket trap idea that I found very interesting, however I took the idea from the first picture and mixed it with this idea to come up with one of my own. I am not saying the idea in the video does not work, yet you can hear the person in the audio saying he has yet to actually try the method due to his lack of mice activity.
Rats are not just scary and creepy, they can cause a huge damage to your property. These rodents have strong jaw to chew not only through fabrics but also through plastic covered cables and wall coverings.
Lastly, get a cheap infrared webcam and set it up so you don’t have to go check the trap all the time… set it up to email you video of the rat getting caught, then you can pull out a fresh, non stinky rat and pitch him into the trash or local stand of trees as a food donation for needy racoons etc.

When I finally succeeded in my task, a battered and disheveled mouse, with missing clumps of fur, limped off into the night. Many trapped animals end up breaking or chewing off their own limbs in their struggle for freedom.
When I was dealing with an infestation, I learned a lot about rats and how to deal with them.  In some ways, they’re fascinating creatures, and knowing how they behave actually helps when it comes to dealing with them.
Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.
Atkinson’s device was made with a weight-activated treadle as the tripping mechanism for a rodent’s successful capture. It was capable of slamming shut in 1/38,000th of a second, a record that has never been beaten by any other snap trap. Atkinson sold his mousetrap patent in 1913 for one thousand pounds to Procter, a company that has been manufacturing the the device ever since.
Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.
TOMCAT Glue Boards capture rats and mice without poison, making them ideal to use in food plants, kitchens, restaurants, food processing plants, hospitals, residences, zoos and other sensitive areas where poison is prohibited or discouraged.
There is no houseguest quite as unwanted as the highly adaptable, grossly destructive, and possibly even dangerous wild rat. Rats have been notable throughout history as carriers of fleas and diseases, as well as unwelcome vermin that will ruin both your food and your house. They can be destructive, disturbing, and even a little scary. This is why it is important to counteract their movements in and around your home with a variety of different rat traps – and peanut butter. Because having a trap means nothing until you have something as alluring as peanut butter. Right?
How it Works – Mice and small rats enter the trap through a side hole.  After entering the trap, they step on a small “trip” plate that releases the entire floor and sweeps them into a holding chamber.  This revolving floor is very gentle to mice and can capture several mice at the same time.  The floor is similar to a “paddle wheel”.  This wheel is spring loaded and will reset itself.  Up to 15 mice can be captured with 1 winding of the spring.  A black spring knob is located on the outside of the trap. This knob is wound by hand several times to engage the spring.
This Hoont rat trap is totally different from other traps mentioned in this review, as it can work in 2 modes: it can be powered either by an outlet or by 4D batteries. Thus, when using the trap in the house, you can save much money. Moreover, it is considered to be one of the three best-selling Electronic Rodent Traps in the Pest Control Traps category on Amazon.com, and this fact encouraged us to give you more details about it.
You just have to place bait inside the trap, and the rat will come and try to eat it, and it will get caught inside it. It completely escapes proof. Once a rat gets caught, it can’t come out without your permission.
To remove the glue from floors or other nonporous surfaces, try oil if the surface won’t be damaged, or use turpentine, paint thinner, or Goo Be Gone, or similar product. Test an inconspicuous area first. Let the solvent sit for several minutes, wipe it off with a dry cloth, then wash with mild detergent.
Within seconds, the rate will lie lifeless inside the trap. It features a tunnel design and a built-in safety switch for added protection to pets and children and runs on 4AA batteries that will eliminate as many as 100 rats or mice before new ones are required.
I put a bit of peanut butter on the center plastic bit and put this under my drawer. Finally caught the mouse that’s been running around my house for weeks! We haven’t found out where it comes in from, but at least we know that we can catch them! Thank you for these awesome traps! My brother and I took it to the next town over and released it in front of the forest. The little fellow couldn’t wriggle off. We used dishwasher soap and some water to set it free. No more rat poo around the house! Mom finally relieved. No more skittering noises in the night! Adios, El Magnifico!
A: Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For rats, anything like peanut butter, dry dog food, nuts, fruit or bacon is a great option. Try to use whatever bait the rodents are currently feeding on, but feel free to provide alternative choices as well.
When an infestation persists, one of the more effective methods of elimination involves getting rats accustomed to traps before setting them.  To introduce a trap, place it in an active area but don’t set it. Allow rats to feed off this “safe” trap for a day or two. Once the critters have accepted this object as part of their regular turf, bait the trap again, but set it up to snap the next rat that crosses its path.

What luck! I assessed the damage, and the distance between the place the mouse munches on the bait, and where the trap comes down is PERFECT for an averagely sized mouse. It comes right down on the back of the neck/ upper spine. If you know any basic physiology, you know this is ideal. It applied enough pressure to break the mouse’s neck, but not enough to make my bathroom a gore fest. I’ve attached a picture, because it’s really not gross to look at, at all. Unless you’re bothered by a slightly misshapen mouse.
