Drive a stick through the opposite ends of the water bottle (Or whatever object you chose to use. It should be cylindrical and easy to roll.) Drill holes in two sides of the bucket near the top where you can slide the hanger through. Fill the bucket with water. (optional) Set up your ramps, and then bait the rolling mechanism. You’ll have rats climbing up to get to the delicious bait only to be dropped to the bottom of the bucket!
This stuff is a little more robust as indicated by my first rat victim on the first night. However; I found the glue trap 15 feet from the trap location upside down with no rat attached. I saw the signs of the rat hair in the glue, but, it could not hold him down. My extermination company says the rats urinate themselves free from glue traps.
Use the right amount of bait. Regardless of the type of trap you choose, effective baiting is vital. Depending on the type of trap you’re using and the type of rodent you’re after, different amounts of bait will be ideal.

Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights? Read more.

For the best results, we recommend placing the trap along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The bait and trigger end of the mouse trap should be flush against the wall so that mice will be tempted to explore them. We recommend baiting the trap with a toothpick amount of peanut butter. Anything more than that, and the mice may be able to access the bait without setting off the trap.
5. Place the trap wherever you’ve seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents like to travel. The baited end of the trap should be placed flush against the wall. For best results, place multiple traps at 2 to 3 foot intervals.
These traps work and work well. For my first try, I put out 4 of these last night with a slice of pepperoni on each and I caught 3 – see the picture I attached. To maximize your capture rate, scope out where the activity is, and then line these traps along that path. Like others have recommended, I disposed of the vermin and will keep reusing.

This is one mouse trap I use when I want to catch several mice and I am not going to be around for a little while. Many times we would use this at my hunting cabin in the foothills of the Adirondacks when we would leave for the week and come back to a bucket full of mice.
In the past because of my hearing acuity I have been invited to, and taken part in studies to test why some people are able to hear these frequencies that many cannot. Even now, as I get older and the noises are not so acute, I still hear the high pitched squeal from many electronics, which I can assure you is most unpleasant.
To set the trap, hold it vertically and make sure the yellow pedal is at about a 20 or 30 degree angle from the base. Then set the trap by hooking the metal bar under the lip of the yellow pedal. If you hook the left side of the pedal, the trap will be easier to set but slightly more difficult to trip. If you hook the right side, the trap will be more difficult to set but slightly easier to trip. For the best accuracy and outcome, we recommend setting the trap somewhere between these two settings.
What these actually do is cause rodents to panic so they shoot off in all directions. If your infestation is really new, the pests may decide to move elsewhere but otherwise, like any other noise, they will simply get used to it as part of their daily life. In my experience with mice and rats, the only sure thing to do is make sure ALL food is out of their reach and lay good, old-fashioned traps. If you don’t like kill-traps, remember to release your humane catches *at least* 3 miles from your home and preferably the other side of a busy road or river to make sure they don’t simply return.
I have been using a rat repeller from Pestrol in my shed, as I have been seeing droppings all over the place. Since installing the device I am yet to see one dropping or a rat in a place. It may not work for everyone, but it did for me, so I am glad I tried something so I dont have to use traps or poison. I have read up on some of the scientific research, and it all depends on what frequency the unit is set to. I think some devices are not as effective as they don’t have a correct setting that rats or mice can here. So if you want to try a unit, make sure you do a research on the company.
THIS is an exceptional electronic execution chamber for rats! I reviewed all of the brands available and chose this one as my best prospect, and I was right. What surprised me though is the fact that very little of the trap’s advantages were advertised before I purchased it. For instance, the clever physical design of the chamber resists the rat’s auto-response once electricity begins to flow and prevents him from spontaneously “leaping away” from the deadly electric panels. Also, since having caught/killed several rats, I noticed that the bait is always consumed before the rat is electrocuted — I suspect that there is 5-or-so seconds delay before the electricity flows, giving the rat time settle down and become less alert while enjoying the bait… then, it’s all over for him with a 2-minute constant electrical surge that kills him and assures no quick spontaneous restart of his heart… on a small scale perhaps, but some real engineering! My compliments to Victor. (BTW, the green light is not very good, but who cares)
ANSWER: There is limited data on how well electronic or high-frequency sound devices work for household pest control. These devices may be called ultrasonic, electronic, microvibration or electromagnetic pest repellers. The manufacturers state that they use high-frequency sound waves or electromagnetic output to repel insects (cockroaches, fleas, house flies, mosquitoes, rodents, moles, and other pests).  There is truly no data, aside from anecdotal information on various internet sites, as to the effectiveness of these devices.
I bought an electronic device (pkg of 3) approximately 4/5 years ago. I was upset about mouse droppings on my kitchen counters and running around my rooms. I can honestly say that since that time I do not see mice anymore. I do make sure the devices bounce off a solid wall, and I have one in three rooms. I also have one in the basement. So I am a believer!! I purchased at a big box retailer. As far as the device for bugs, I had two in my winter home over the summer. I also sprayed, used fabric softener sheets and had pretty good success. Again it needs to hit solid wall.

We live in a split-level single family house. We saw some rat droppings in the upper floor. We kais these glue traps in the upper and lower floor. The next day a rat was stuck at the lower floor glue tray. We threw the tray and put in another one. We did not catch any more rats and saw no more droppings. These glue trays are easy to set up and the price is very reasonable. It is wide and can easily be separated in two trays. I am a happy satisfied customer.
I purchased one, a week ago, to control fleas and bugs. Also, we have some spiders. The fleas activity was reduced. I don’t want to say that it stopped totally yet. My arms are getting a chance to heal now from the bites I get when sleeping. I believe the product works. I have not seen a single spider around. It’s important to get rid of clutter around the house because ‘things’ will absorb the sound. It may depend on what product brand you purchase. I purchased the “Transonic Pro Electronic Pest Repeller”. I got mine from Gardenfun.com but you might find them somewhere else also. Give it a week or two to see results. My husband agreed about the change in our home.
In general, rat traps can be broken into two broad categories: traps intended to kill the rodent and live capture cages. Both lure the rat in with food and have the ultimate goal of removing the animal considered vermin by most people from a home or work environment.
A few years ago I had two Ultrasonic Cix machines to keep mice and packrats away from the vehicles. I had lost 2 motorcycles and a truck up to that time to rodent infestations. The nearest neighbor 1000 feet away started to complain about HEARING the machines. She called the cops, file a lawsuit and her insurance company A–S—E send a team out here to take measurements. The insurance company doesn’t care who they harm if you are not one of THEIR policyholders. Their “experts” “detected” the sound at varying places. This woman won her lawsuit, a lot of money from my homeowners,t and the judge ordered the ultrasonic machines removed and never replaced. Since that ruling, I’ve lost another truck and have resorted to poisons. As for this neighbor, the manufacturer claims that ultrasonic devices are inaudible to humans and do not cause harm. Yet SHE claims that she can hear them 1000 feet away! She must be a rat! (She is!)
I stand there in shock as he hides on top of the shelf mocking me with his shrieks. It’s on! No more cute little YouTube contraptions. You know, there are times when a better mouse trap has already been built. Use it!
Note: If you encounter an animal who’s stuck to a glue trap, pour a small amount of cooking oil or baby oil onto the stuck areas (avoiding the animal’s nose and mouth) and gently work the animal free. If you can’t free the animal, quickly rush him or her to a veterinarian or wildlife rehabilitator. Sometimes euthanasia performed by a veterinarian is the most humane way to end the trapped animal’s suffering.
The use of any trap, including poison bait traps, is a temporary measure at best. Rats killed are very quickly replaced by others. Unless preventative measures are taken the rat infestation problem will be on-going and endless.
Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.
You’ll quickly notice how handy buckets are for homemade rat traps. The rolling log trap is similar to the bottle trap in that the “log” spins, dropping rats and mice down into the bucket. This is a cheap multi-catch option that won’t break or wear out easily and can be used again and again.
Ok this one is really innovative and gets a sucker with the scratch and sniff sticker. The video below shows an empty bottle, bigger than your average 20-ounce soda bottle and square much like a Fiji water bottle, set up as a rat trap. Now the video is set up for a rat which explains the reasoning behind the larger bottle, but I can imagine the trap in a smaller version would work just as fine for mice.

We had mice in the kitchen and garage. I put one plug-in reller in the kitchen and two in the garage. After about a week, no more mice incidents at all. That was over a year ago. Now to tackle the backyard with more powerful models to see if that will be a success as well.

The concept here is that the larger end of the plate, the side without the bait on it, is being held by the buckets edge, to give the mouse support enough to walk onto the plate and make it’s way to the bait.
The liter bottle trap is promising; Cut a plastic soda bottle 3/4 of the way up and invert the top spout into the base. Secure it with glue or tape and put bait such as peanuts or seed in the hole so it drops to the bottom. Grease the funnel with cooking oil or butter so the mouse gets no grip. Place the trap near a shelf or something so the mouse can jump or climb to the inverted top. Once in the funnel the only way is down, he won’t be able to climb out and you can release him to a safe place. This trap is also useful in that it can double as a fruit fly or gnat trap.
We had rats and mice pretty bad our house smelled like a rat cage. I cleaned my house spotless could not get rid of them they would not go after poison or traps they stayed clear of them. I am pregnant and was getting to sick from being home. After being gone at my moms for two weeks because I couldn’t deal with the smell and the rats my husband wanted me home so he got 5 of the small rodent electronic plug ins for our room and bathroom and one big one for our living room and kitchen. I have two dogs haven’t affected them at all. But after my husband plugged all of these in he called me and said he got them. Not even 24 hrs later i came home. my house didn’t smell nearly as bad and haven’t seen any since except for one. cleaned my house again and haven’t seen any droppings or pee stains anywhere. The one I saw I’m pretty sure ran out. My house is spotless and smells amazing and it’s been 2 weeks so I’m pretty sure these work. We have had a rat problem for almost 6 months and now they’re gone.
I’ve purchased recently Ultrasonic pest repeller from amazon “http://amzn.com/B017IEZIVQ” i am really happy with it, I have a detached garage and we put everything in there as our storage room. I have a contract with pest control monthly and no matter what they do mice still coming back because we stored some dry foods in there like dog foods, dry cereals and etc.I’ve tried everything to get rid of them but they only stop for days and then coming back again. So i knew i need to do something else permanent to get rid of them and this Best Indoor Electronic Plug in Pest Control is doing a great job it does what is supposed to do. We used to have alots of crickets, waterbugs and spider too but now since i plug this pest repeller in my garage i have never seen any sign of them anymore no more mice and no more bugs and insects inside my garage. This repeller has been working really good and im so happy with it.
