I tested one by setting it up and triggering it with a stick. It broke after triggering 2 times. The 2nd one broke while I was pulling back the kill bar to set it up. The 3rd one almost broke while pulling back the kill bar, but I stopped pulling on it to avoid breaking it. It seems like the loop of the kill bar on the right would come off the horizontal bar easily, causing the spring to become dislodged. See the attached photos.
This trap is very easy to set. I don’t understand how so many people have trouble setting them up. My problem is that the mice ate the bait and the trap did not trigger. This has happened for two consecutive nights now, regardless of setting them on the sensitive mode, and testing them to make sure they trigger at very slight contact.
To make a homemade rat trap from a bucket, you will also need a box, thin board, long wood plank, water and bait food. Take or buy the buckets of at least two feet in size and fill it half full with cold water.
Apply a small amount of high-protein bait, such as peanut butter, hazelnut spread or bacon to the yellow plastic pedal on the trap as shown. Use a Q-tip, toothpick or another tool to bait to avoid transferring your scent to the trap.
Our friend has told us about his trying to catch rats with the help of an ordinary snap trap. Once he saw how two rats were stealing the bait from the trap. One rat raised the trap’s cross-bar with the help of its teeth and returned it back after its rat-friend pulled out the bait. Rats are so cunning and adaptable that it is very hard to get rid of them. By their ability to survive, they can be compared only with cockroaches. That is why electronic traps, which kill rats by electric shock immediately, have become the best solution for many people.
No, guys around. I shall wait until tomorrow and if still there I will dong it on the head with a glass bottle, put it into an old dog food plastic bag and put it in the bin for rubbish collection. That is where they belong. Not around residential housing.
This is one mouse trap I use when I want to catch several mice and I am not going to be around for a little while. Many times we would use this at my hunting cabin in the foothills of the Adirondacks when we would leave for the week and come back to a bucket full of mice.
When assembling the trap, we recommend applying the bait before the trap is set. After the trap is set, it is designed to trigger when movement is detected on the metal pedal. Baiting the trap before it is set ensures the safety of the consumer.
We had rats and mice pretty bad our house smelled like a rat cage. I cleaned my house spotless could not get rid of them they would not go after poison or traps they stayed clear of them. I am pregnant and was getting to sick from being home. After being gone at my moms for two weeks because I couldn’t deal with the smell and the rats my husband wanted me home so he got 5 of the small rodent electronic plug ins for our room and bathroom and one big one for our living room and kitchen. I have two dogs haven’t affected them at all. But after my husband plugged all of these in he called me and said he got them. Not even 24 hrs later i came home. my house didn’t smell nearly as bad and haven’t seen any since except for one. cleaned my house again and haven’t seen any droppings or pee stains anywhere. The one I saw I’m pretty sure ran out. My house is spotless and smells amazing and it’s been 2 weeks so I’m pretty sure these work. We have had a rat problem for almost 6 months and now they’re gone.
I bought one from Groupon, only 15US$ I just try it today, try to get rid of cockroach, 2 inches big one from my kitchen. I wonder, will it drive it out of the kitchen into my living room? By the way, the using the device as a hammer comment was funny.
DRG suggested using a different bait, one he wouldn’t easily remove. I modified the trigger to make the V-shaped metal tab stick up at a 45º angle. I then formed a ball of cheese around the trigger and reset the trap.
At about 5:45 of the video, you can see how the bait is set up with a small needle or maybe a toothpick that goes through the hole and held up by the red band. The rat, or mouse, enters in through the trapped door, pulls at the bait, which releases the tension by releasing the line to the door, and the rubber bands pull the door shut holding so much force as to keeping it closed.
In the past because of my hearing acuity I have been invited to, and taken part in studies to test why some people are able to hear these frequencies that many cannot. Even now, as I get older and the noises are not so acute, I still hear the high pitched squeal from many electronics, which I can assure you is most unpleasant.
I re-baited the trap, turned it on, and checked it the next morning. I could see a rat tail poking out of the trap. I don’t know how they call this thing “no see” when it the tail was impossible to miss. Anyway, I disposed of the rat and reset the trap without applying more bait. Another rat down in just a few hours! Fast forward a couple of weeks and the trap has claimed (I think) 11 rats so far and I’m still on the first set of batteries. Super effective!
I’m familiar with the Ultrasonic repellers–I bought two of them last year after discovering squirrels in our new home. They were scratching around all through the walls and even between the first and second story floors!! I was very concerned about the damage to insulation and wiring. We were told they would only work in ‘open’ spaces–so I installed them in the attic space. It took nearly 3 1/2 months but seemed to be ‘mostly’ effective. They are very persistent and keep trying to return. I’m hearing one again recently. I was wondering–has anyone tried the ones that work ‘through the wiring’?? That is supposed to be effective between floors and walls!
Terrified rats and mice sometimes scream as they try to escape the glue. Glue traps rip patches of skin, fur, and feathers off the animals’ bodies as they struggle to get away, and many animals even chew off their own legs trying to free themselves.
My cheap landlord decided to stop having the pest control company come spray for roaches. Now we have roaches. I have tried everything from spraying to boric acid to fogging. Nothing seems to work. I just want to know if these electronic devices really work??? Just cut the nonsense I just want to know if they really work?? Especially if I’m gonna spend money on them.
After reading many interesting comments, thought I should share my experience. I have used two bigger ultrasonic pest repellent units (Black & Decker EP1100-A) for last ten plus years for rodents and similar larger pests – One in backyard and one in garage; and didn’t have a single rodent or similar pest anywhere near the house. I don’t have anything to prove the cause and effect relationship, but we do think it works, at least for larger pests. We also have a few smaller pluggable units inside house and never had a single cockroach in the house.
It is also of vital importance to rat-proof buildings. This means to seal off entry points with heavy gauge small gap screening material or close gaps up entirely. Structures must also be kept free of items that provide ready nesting materials to the rats. Bushes and woodpiles should be kept away from outside walls, grass kept closely cut and overgrowth kept under control.
If allergy season has passed and you find that you are still experiencing the stuffy nose, itchy eyes, coughing, rash outbreaks or respiratory issues that regularly plague you at that time, you might be suffering from an allergic reaction to mice in your home. Read More »
It is important to maintain the appearance that the papered-over coffee can is capable of supporting the mouse when it walks across it. Instead of cutting a solid “X”, you could try poking small, closely-spaced holes in an “X” shape across the surface of the paper.
Traps designed to kill take several forms, some delivering death in a more “humane” (i.e. quick and painless) manner than others which use in methods increasingly deemed inhumane to exterminate the rodent.Traps that kill are by far more popular than the no-kill variety; most people cannot extend empathy to a creature they see as a dangerous pest. They prefer to dispatch them summarily– preferably with as little contact with the rat as possible.

This trap has both a firm and sensitive setting. It will be easier to set on the firm setting. Keep in mind that the pedal is pre-baited. Adding bait is optional, but could affect the sensitivity. Feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) for additional assistance. Our traps are covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a one-year replacement warranty.
These are certainly sticky enough. However, some mice will learn to avoid them or other traps. Then I will use a bunch of these to build a physical barrier so that mice can’t go where they want to without stepping on one.
For squirrels, place traps along the wall in the attic or crawlspace, near the bottom of the trees outside your home, and directly on your roof, especially near trees or power lines that may be routes that squirrels take into your home.
In 2001, the Federal Trade Commission sent a warning to manufacturers of ultrasonic pest control devices, demanding that claims of effectiveness must be backed up by scientific research. Thanks to the FTC intervention, package claims on ultrasonic rodent and insect devices are a little less preposterous than they used to be, and many product websites have links explaining their research methods and results, such as these from Green Shield and Victor.

A: The Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Trap can be reused or disposed of. It is personal preference. Check the traps frequently to ensure the trap is emptied as soon as the mouse is captured and the traps will last longer. Please note that for personal hygiene and biohazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.
A rat made a nest inside one of our reader’s cars, which is parked in their driveway. It chewed through a number of wires and caused a lot of damage. We have written about what we would do to get rid of this problem or prevent it from happening again.
I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.
Set up four traps with dabs of peanut butter. Mice have licked them clean without setting off traps. I pick up the traps and they go off. These mice are outsmarting me. They’re probably staring at me and laughing: “Ya right!”. Victor should hire them for their Research and Developing department or maybe CEO.
Can anything speak louder than a photo of a giant dead rat in this device? I don’t think so. I can’t believe it. I set it up Saturday afternoon… no luck that first night (might has been my bait choice and/or location), then moving to the edge of a wall facing the bush my cat caught one in and putting the bit of peanut butter on the wall of the back, and bam, this morning I look out and see the little feet hanging out the front entrance. Im an animal lover but after what I have been through..seeing that felt like christmas to me.
Size the barbwire so that it is exactly the shape and dimensions of the bottle’s opening and cut off the piece. Glue this piece of barbwire over the top opening of the bottle. In practice, the barbwire should replicate a swinging door.
Living on a lake in Norcal lotsa spiders flies etc. Cats brought in some fleas so put in 5 of these electronic devices with high amaxzon rating from actual purchasers. Flypaper and sticky traps show drastic reduction in corpus and fly’s went away pronto. I put 2 pest strips ( toxic ) in attic spray bedding with Vets Best and cut up generic Seresto flea collars in 1 inch strips under cover and pet towel ( silver threads antimicrobial ). A battle with insects requires a combined assault.

I bought an electronic device (pkg of 3) approximately 4/5 years ago. I was upset about mouse droppings on my kitchen counters and running around my rooms. I can honestly say that since that time I do not see mice anymore. I do make sure the devices bounce off a solid wall, and I have one in three rooms. I also have one in the basement. So I am a believer!! I purchased at a big box retailer. As far as the device for bugs, I had two in my winter home over the summer. I also sprayed, used fabric softener sheets and had pretty good success. Again it needs to hit solid wall.
Suppose you don’t have $5 to spend on a pvc pipe, or you’d rather not make a trip to the store, the plate trap is another self-resetting trap that’s fairly easy to create and shouldn’t cost you a dime as long as you have paper plates at home. Once the weight of the rat touches the plate, it will automatically dip, dropping the rat into the bucket before springing back into place. It closely resembles the first two bucket traps we recently discussed, and is a popular choice for catching rodents on a budget.
There is a pest control guy who comes into our apartment and spray our apartment unit every Monday. After inhaling the fumes from the spray I developed severe allergy. Then I bought one of those electronic pest control and plugged it in one of my wall sucket, and I’m happy to say I got rid of the roaches in my apartment unit.
We use a tall kitchen garbage can and a piece of news paper with an x cut into it. Tiny piece of tape in center keeps together. Fill with enough water so they can’t touch bottom. Sprinkle with some bait and wait. I live near a crick that is connected to a major river. It brings rats right to my house. Great big river rats. Works great and don’t have to worry about my pets. When rats get tired from swimming they drown. Just fish out with a rake and reset.
Real-Kill Rat Glue Traps (2-Pack) are non-toxic, disposable traps that will catch rats, mice and other household pests, such as spiders, scorpions and cockroaches. Glue traps are a ready-to-use alternative to spray and chemical pest control. In areas where insects have been a problem, they make a great monitoring tool to assess returning populations.
Device Location: The sound waves from ultrasonic pest control devices are short range and very weak, so they’re easily blocked by furniture, walls, and corners. To test out the location of your device, place a lamp next to the device, turn off all the other lights, and note the beams and shadows from the lamp. The repellent sound waves will pretty much only be active where the light reaches.
Looking for cheap rat traps? Victor® rat glue traps offer an effective method of rodent control at a competitive price, without the time-consuming processes of setting or baiting. Rather, glue traps have a sticky surface which is pre-baited to attract rats, insects, and other pests. The glue surface stops pests in their tracks upon contact and prevents them from escaping back to their hiding spaces. Simply place the traps along walls where there are signs of high rodent activity. For your convenience, rat glue traps are disposable to allow for quick cleanup after every catch.
Decided to try some traps, guess what !? Spent another $60 for 2 traps in vain. No rats were caught in almost a month, nevertheless rats became less and less shy, sometimes appearing in broad daylight.

Like live traps, rat glue traps can be used to release rodents back into their natural habitat. To employ catch and release pest control, live rats can be removed from the glue traps using vegetable oil. Once you release the rodent, set it free at least 5 miles away to prevent it from returning to your home or business. Once you’re done, simply dispose of the used trap for quick and easy cleanup.
