Remove the ruler or makeshift ramp from the can and take the can to a location about five to ten miles from human habitation. Place the can on the ground and turn it sideways, allowing the mouse to exit.
The next day, I awoke to what sounded like an intruder in the kitchen. In actuality, it was a mouse who was trying so violently to escape a glue trap that I mistook him for a living being hundreds of times his size. He took deep, shivering breaths, and every so often he would muster all of his energy and violently thrash in an attempt to free himself.
When you are free, you can create a default mouse trap and catch the mouse. But, also keep in mind that your family is your family and that they won’t get mad if you just tell them the problem. If that is not working, then catch the mouse yourself.

We’ve had a mice problem for years, tried traps which work but I hate emptying them. Also had a problem in the garage, mice put grass seed in the car’s air filter. I bought two of the small plug in ultasonic and put them in the garage, no clue if they work yet. Then one in the bedroom where I could hear them scratching about at night and early morning up in the attic (where I cannot get to). The first night heard the mice for a few minutes, then nothing. The second night heard them for a few seconds then nothing since and it’s been 3 weeks. I’ve since plugged 4 into the basement to cover all walls and no mice have been caught in the traps and can’t see any evidence they’ve been there. As far as I’m concerned they work, tho for how long, don’t know.
Rats are smart and they are inherently cautious. Kill as many as you can at once before they get wise to your plans. If the rats figure out how to avoid the traps then you will need to switch to poisons.
Actually bought these to catch a couple of mice which somehow snuck into my basement(open door perhaps)from my backyard. These boards are very effective in catching mice. Put 2 down the first day I received them and BAM!, the next morning both mice were caught, on the same trap. DMOPC also offers these with the tunnel type covering to protect as much as possible against dust and dirt from catching on the trap which extends the adhesion of the trap. Also offered as “the more the buy, the more you save”. Great buy! Would purchase again.
The ability to remove the battery/electronics off of this unit to clean has made maintaining these traps SO much easier. That was the only drawback of this units predecessor. Both units give reliable results, but the ability to clean easier is a definite plus. The square shape is also nice for stacking the traps when not in use or when carrying multiple units. This is not just a rat trap. It works GREAT with mice as well.

Wrap a piece of construction paper over the top of the can. Hold the paper in place using a rubber band wrapped around the rim of the can. Take an extendable blade and cut an “X” in the top of the construction paper, stopping about one inch from the edge of the can at each of the four lines.
I don’t think that any commenters can truly say if the devices work. I do not see that any scientific experiments were conducted. Were two residences setup with exactly the same conditions both with mice. One serving as the control and one serving as the test? If you don’t evaluate using a scientific method with a control, you really cannot draw a valid conclusion regarding the effectiveness of the device.
After inspecting the rat infested areas, place the rat glue boards in those areas. Place the glue traps directly in their runways. Rats usually travel along baseboards and walls, since they use the walls for guidance. Place glue traps where there has been rodent activity.
Be sure to position the snap trap so that the baited end of each trap is placed perpendicular to the wall. Rodents generally travel with their bodies against a wall for protection. It may be necessary to bait a rat trap without setting the trap and allow the bait to be eaten a couple of times. Then set the trap with more bait. Rats tend to shy away from new objects so this method gets them accustomed to the trap. Mice are more inquisitive than rats, so pre-baiting is less likely to be needed.
use about a half gallon of old (smelly) cooking oil in a large open glass container ( a vase or cookie jar ). The oil should be about two – three inches from the top. Secure a timber ramp from the ground to the top of the glass container. The rats will fall in but will not get out due to the slippery oil and glass sides. GUARANTEED to work and to go on working…..
Put mousetraps (or live traps, if you don’t want to harm them) anywhere you see any rats or signs of rats, including gnaw marks and droppings. Rats can enter your home through openings much smaller than themselves, so find and plug any holes you see that may lead to the outside. If you have a crawlspace, go under the house and look for holes there as well.
The most common type of rat trap is the classic snap trap made by Victor. The trap is so popular because it is cheap and effective. Victor makes two versions of their classic trap; Standard and Professional.
I’ve purchased recently Ultrasonic pest repeller from amazon “http://amzn.com/B017IEZIVQ” i am really happy with it, I have a detached garage and we put everything in there as our storage room. I have a contract with pest control monthly and no matter what they do mice still coming back because we stored some dry foods in there like dog foods, dry cereals and etc.I’ve tried everything to get rid of them but they only stop for days and then coming back again. So i knew i need to do something else permanent to get rid of them and this Best Indoor Electronic Plug in Pest Control is doing a great job it does what is supposed to do. We used to have alots of crickets, waterbugs and spider too but now since i plug this pest repeller in my garage i have never seen any sign of them anymore no more mice and no more bugs and insects inside my garage. This repeller has been working really good and im so happy with it.
We had rats and mice pretty bad our house smelled like a rat cage. I cleaned my house spotless could not get rid of them they would not go after poison or traps they stayed clear of them. I am pregnant and was getting to sick from being home. After being gone at my moms for two weeks because I couldn’t deal with the smell and the rats my husband wanted me home so he got 5 of the small rodent electronic plug ins for our room and bathroom and one big one for our living room and kitchen. I have two dogs haven’t affected them at all. But after my husband plugged all of these in he called me and said he got them. Not even 24 hrs later i came home. my house didn’t smell nearly as bad and haven’t seen any since except for one. cleaned my house again and haven’t seen any droppings or pee stains anywhere. The one I saw I’m pretty sure ran out. My house is spotless and smells amazing and it’s been 2 weeks so I’m pretty sure these work. We have had a rat problem for almost 6 months and now they’re gone.
A: Place traps perpendicular to the wall near signs of rodent activity (to find out where your area of high activity is please see Diagnose Your Home). For Rats, place traps out unset for a few days so they can become familiar with it.
For me, these traps have to be baited properly in order to catch rats. I use peanut butter, but I don’t just dab some on the copper tab. I use a qtip with the tip soaked in peanut butter, cut the tip off the stick, and lodge that under the point on the trigger plate. I then dab some on top of that to entice the rats. Once the rats run across the trap they will try to nibble the qtip tip that is lodged under the trigger plate, then snap! Rats are smart, if you just dab some on the trigger plate itself, they will just lick it off, evading the trap. If you bait the plate where they have to nibble at it, you’ll get great results everytime!
Bait the trap with a high-protein substance, such as peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread. Place the bait on the metal bait pedal using a Q-Tip, toothpick or another tool to mask your human scent.
Place the can on the floor in an area where the mouse resides. Lay a long ruler or paint stirring stick from the floor to the mouth of the coffee can. If necessary, affix the ruler or stick to the can with tape.
It is also of vital importance to rat-proof buildings. This means to seal off entry points with heavy gauge small gap screening material or close gaps up entirely. Structures must also be kept free of items that provide ready nesting materials to the rats. Bushes and woodpiles should be kept away from outside walls, grass kept closely cut and overgrowth kept under control.
Well I used to be one that said they were junk. I have three homes in the country in Illinois. It seems the key is this: Don’t buy the cheapest and there is definately a critical mass issue (you need enough of them). It’s been 3 years now since I “relaunched” them and I can say they can really work if you apply them correctly. You need one per room (two if it is a big room) They must not be blocked by something. Higher works better than lower. Lastly what you will find is that you will see more activity from mice the first week or two because it makes them kind of crazy but by 2-3 weeks they get sick of it and leave. get the ones that send out both an audio signal and one on your electric wires and also get the ones that change the frequency now and then so that nothing can get used to it.
I set this glue trap for this mouse cause it was destroying my stuff every night. It was successfull but was bad as it when the mouse gets stuck to the trap it cant escape and it dies from hunger, and weakness from trying continuously from freeing itself and it dies after 4-5 days of struggle. This stuff is inhumane I felt so bad for the poor little thing that i freed it, which was the hardest thing to do, and left in and open field.
I live in an apartment had have used ultrasonic pest control for 10 years. A few months after moving in we had a mouse problem, put down those sticky pads and bought my first ultrasonic plug ins and have been using them since 2006. After the initial problem, we spotted a rodent in Nov, 2011, rfreshed the units and no more problems until Sep 2015, which kind of surprised me because we change them every 18 months. We replaced the units and replaced them again in April of this year. It is now October and we have suddenly becme infested even though. Even though the units were replaced just 6 months ago,, we replaced them yesterday, and put down sticky pads. I’m hoping this will get rid of the disgusting things at least for the next 6 months (when we plan to move). I don’t know what happened. The plug ins worked for us for 10 years. Now I feel dirty and feel like everything in the house needs to be scoured, but I need the rodents gone first. I do have a spray I can use, but it smells so bad It kept everyone around here choking for hours.
Quick answer. They don’t work! I found this page while researching how to deter rats in walls because I literally have one right now in my wall. It kept me up all night chewing and scratching at the wall. The wall it is on has one of these devices plugged in to it. I turned it to the max setting and still the little turd was scratching away. It could care less about the noise. It’s more annoying to me than the rat. Don’t waste your money. Lucky for me, I bought mine on a flash sale from amazon so it wasn’t too expensive. Waste of money. It’s a gimmic that people are getting roped into like every other gimmic.
Size the barbwire so that it is exactly the shape and dimensions of the bottle’s opening and cut off the piece. Glue this piece of barbwire over the top opening of the bottle. In practice, the barbwire should replicate a swinging door.
When I was dealing with an infestation, I learned a lot about rats and how to deal with them. In some ways, they’re fascinating creatures, and knowing how they behave actually helps when it comes to dealing with them.
Not sure if the continuation of the tutorial is even necessary at this point. I didn’t have a mouse problem, I had rats! This is why I continue to stress the importance of trading theory for ACTION before you actually need critical gear and equipment.
Had a mice problem went to Home Depot and got the electric repellent was sitting on the couch and saw a mouse roll from under the device to under the couch still have traps saw one mouse that got caught on the trap trying to get out but no more problems it has been months.

Looking for cheap rat traps? Victor® rat glue traps offer an effective method of rodent control at a competitive price, without the time-consuming processes of setting or baiting. Rather, glue traps have a sticky surface which is pre-baited to attract rats, insects, and other pests. The glue surface stops pests in their tracks upon contact and prevents them from escaping back to their hiding spaces. Simply place the traps along walls where there are signs of high rodent activity. For your convenience, rat glue traps are disposable to allow for quick cleanup after every catch.

I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.
I stand there in shock as he hides on top of the shelf mocking me with his shrieks. It’s on! No more cute little YouTube contraptions. You know, there are times when a better mouse trap has already been built. Use it!
Is there any way I can get mice out of my room without telling my family? I’m 14 and my room was messy. It might not be my fault but I’ve seen two mice and I’m afraid my family will get mad if I tell them.
Be sure to thoroughly clean the snap traps between uses. Rats will smell “death” on a trap that’s recently killed another rat. I have the black plastic snap traps. After removing the dead rat (triple wrapped in plastic and put in the deep freeze until garbage day), I drop the trap into a bucket with about a litre of very hot water and some bleach; soak for a few hours, scrub with a brush and then, if you want, rewash it (I actually put mine in the dishwasher, after a thorough bleaching and scrubbing). It should just smell like clean plastic when it comes out of the dishwasher. Re-bait it, put it where the rats are active, let it do its thing, and repeat! 🙂 I am sorry that I have to kill these buggers, but if they’re in my house, they need to be killed. My house is 108 years old and has all kinds of secret places for rodents to come and go, but this year (2016), here on Vancouver Island, there is a huge rat problem so I’ve become very cutthroat about killing them.
We live in a split-level single family house. We saw some rat droppings in the upper floor. We kais these glue traps in the upper and lower floor. The next day a rat was stuck at the lower floor glue tray. We threw the tray and put in another one. We did not catch any more rats and saw no more droppings. These glue trays are easy to set up and the price is very reasonable. It is wide and can easily be separated in two trays. I am a happy satisfied customer.
On the farm we had many mice in our chicken cage after the chicken food and the mice were a big problem due to excreting in the chicken food as well as bringing in the various snakes to feast on the abundance of mice. (cobras, puff adders, boomslang).
Q.Do you mean to tell me that you could not invent a better trip for loading without one jeopardizing his/her fingers to load the trap? I thought you had better adaptness than that. I had to use two pliers in order to bait the trap in order to protect my fingers. What a shame on YOU.
The comedy behind this poster makes this a favorite and the best part, the person who wrote it, says it works. Read below for the directions on this one but be sure to read them all, as I can see skipping number six may lead to a tipped over bottle and an escapee!
Other non-lethal traps include the “bucket trap”, literally little more than a large plastic or metal bucket which has a piece of wood propped against it. Food bait is placed at the bottom of the bucket. Rats climb up the “ramp”, go for the food then find they cannot climb out of the trap. Again, these must be monitored carefully and the rats released outside promptly. This type of rat trap can be easily converted to a humane killing trap by filling the bucket about a third full with water. Most rats will drown within two minutes, although Norway rats are strong swimmers and it could take far longer for them to exhaust themselves and succumb.
If you find yourself in this situation and are in need of some mass exporting (of course, I’m talking about the mice here, not your extended family members), here are a few simple DIY mouse traps that you can make out of several items that you probably already have around the house.
I have been using some of the expensive ones of these [electro-magnetic and ultrasonic][advertised on TV] for about 5-6 years with good results. My Dogs don’t seem to be affected. I gave one to My Son as he had mice but His Pet Lizard was VERY affected by it. I have one in a large metal garden shed and it seems to keep most things out of the shed. My two other sheds do get mice or rats occasionally which I kill with baits. I put one of these in another Sons Apartment which had lots of cockroaches, and the tenants next door complained about all the cockroaches they had.. lol. As lizards don’t like these, maybe snakes don’t either?

I just purchased these. I went on YouTube, watched a 30 sec video on how to set it and got 4 of them baited with peanut butter and set. Took 1 min max. I’m not sure why so many people can’t get them set??? I’ll write another review tomorrow….hopefully with some dead mice under my kitchen sink !!!
There’s a bug spray thats available at kmart. Spray around the outside of house. Wont hurt your pets, dogs , cats ,fish, lizards, Then spray at base boards on inside of house. NO spiders , bugs, When the bugs come out there a pain. those mosquito plants work. And I used Bell &Howell Pest Repellers as far as I could tell they were working with the mice. Bugs come out from April to October. But I used Decon for my mice. Put pest Repellers in every room of house & basement. Use inside & outside spray as needed.
Most of the sounds a rat makes are inaudible to human ears and without a specially modified bat detector we would be completely unaware of them. Most of a rats inaudible chatter seems to signify happiness and excitement. The more vocal sounds are generally aimed at reinforcing something they are communicating with their body. Rats only rely on audible communication for a very small part of their overall communication. It can still be useful to understand some of the more common noises.

From what I understand whatever you’re trying to repel gets use to the sound. The idea would be to get one that does random sounds at different frequencies so they don’t get use to the pattern. I’m not sure if there is a product that does this?
