Despite bans in Victoria, BC, Australia and New Zealand, most countries, including the United States, have placed no regulations on the use of glue boards. There also is very little consumer education about these products –manufacturers and retailers provide virtually no information to alert purchasers as to the concerns that exist with the use of these devices.
To avoid stolen bait, the bait cup is designed so that it can’t be reached without activating the extremely responsive trigger, this means that even the craftiest of rats can’t avoid springing the jaws!
Manufacturers direct consumers to throw the animals away along with the trap, but I just couldn’t leave him to starve and die slowly, so I sat outside working with dirt, dish soap, olive oil, and my hands to free the little guy. At one point, the mouse let out a squeak and sunk his teeth into my hand because of the terror and pain he felt as I was trying to pry his body from a pool of glue.
With this black trap, there will be no escape for any rat or mouse. Once inside the 1.75 x 3.25 x 6.25-inch compartment, the only escape for the creature is dead. The trap uses superior smart circuit technology to sense the intruder and then activates a high-voltage electric shock.
Garbage scraps and trash — Regardless of the refuse humans throw away, much of it is a goldmine in the minds of rats and mice. Food of all kinds are prime targets of rodent dumpster diving, especially disposed-of bread, cheese, meat, fruits and vegetables.
Place rat traps in high-activity areas of the rat colony. These areas may include darkened corners, along walls, behind appliances and objects, and all areas where droppings are evident. Since rats need to touch surfaces as they move, place them accordingly.
To celebrate our 50 episode, we spent some time with one of the most recognized and respected pest professionals on the planet. Jerry Schappert talks with us about his early blogging days, books, pest control business, and his super successful online community.
Then, position boxes of equal height next to the buckets. Place thin wood planks on the boxes and have them overhang into the middle of the buckets. The planks should fall into the buckets easily when a little bit of pressure is applied to the end of it.
Even after setting out the unset rat traps and following the procedure in step #9, you may still have rats that will not go into the snap traps. There are alpha and beta rats in a rat population. The first rats to be caught in snap traps are the beta rats (inferior rats). The superior alpha rats are much more cautious around the snap traps. At this point, use a live trap. Rodenticides may be another choice for you at this point. Rodent baits (the strong single feed baits) are more costly, but will cause much more pressure on the rodent population as they readily take the bait and die.
Victor “Professional” Rat Trip has adjustable setting for firm or sensitive trigger. If you have it set to the firm or F setting it may not trigger try setting it all the way to the S setting(be careful trap might accidental trigger!).

To entice a rat to enter a rat snap trap, place bait underneath the bait platform as well as on it. It’s also useful to place bait just outside the trap, enticing the rat to step on the trap or go inside the trap to get more.

Set the trap close to where you want to place it, such as in a cupboard. Apply an attractant to the metal bait trigger. Position the pin away from the trap and carefully pull the spring-loaded U-shaped metal bar back to the opposite end and hold the bar firmly with one hand. With the other hand, place the metal pin over the U-shaped bar and insert the curved end of the pin into the left slot of the bait trigger.
Update: reduced my rating from ***** (5) to ** (2) as the trap broke after the first use (kill). The plastic latch mechanism cracked, presumably when it caught the first rodent, and will no longer set. It was literally set 1x and used 1x (correctly per instructions) and broke.
To keep rodents away from your home, eliminate food sources by keeping counter surfaces, floors, and cabinets clean, and store dry food and “pet” food in chew-proof containers. Seal trash cans (use bungee cords on lids) and never feed companion animals outside.
They never saw it coming… they came wave upon wave into the mouth of the beast. Eager to reach their last meal they crawl inside, but they find only death. The bodies pile higher and higher. The beast shows no mercy and spares no rodent. Its appetite is unending… consuming rodents and batteries without remorse.

This I’ble will show you how to Make, an extremely effective rodent catching device. This trap may also be used for “live captures”. Got a rodent issue? You have come to the right place. Build this free trap and rid yourself of these pests.
You will need a 2-liter soda bottle, barbwire, glue, toothpick and bait (peanut butter, bacon, sunflower seeds). Before making the rat trap diy, put on latex or vynil gloves to avoid leaving human scent. Take a 2-liter soda bottle and cut 2 inches off the top. The opening will be the entrance.
What makes the Metal Rat Trap so much better than other versions on the market? It starts with the galvanized metal that won’t rust. That means that once you purchase, these they are an investment. They also have something that traditional snap traps don’t; they have a multitude of teeth along the edge around the pressure plate. These little teeth are sharp and once the rat wonders onto the plate; there’s no way he’s getting off alive. Some of the problems with other style traps are that they allow the rodent to wonder away after receiving just a jolt. However, this one ensures that once they bite the bait, their life is over.
Do not touch rats directly. While not all rats are carriers of dangerous diseases and parasites, some are, so it’s very important to take proper precautions to protect yourself when handling rats (living or dead.) Wear sterile gloves and avoid touching the rat itself, instead grabbing hold of the trap. Remove your gloves and wash your hands when you’re done disposing of the rat and never touch your face, eyes, or mouth after touching either a rat or its trap without thoroughly cleaning your hands.
Consider moving the mouse traps to another location where you have mouse activity. If setting up your mouse traps directly next to the high traffic areas is not working, try setting up the traps adjacent to or just a bit away from these high traffic areas.
What luck! I assessed the damage, and the distance between the place the mouse munches on the bait, and where the trap comes down is PERFECT for an averagely sized mouse. It comes right down on the back of the neck/ upper spine. If you know any basic physiology, you know this is ideal. It applied enough pressure to break the mouse’s neck, but not enough to make my bathroom a gore fest. I’ve attached a picture, because it’s really not gross to look at, at all. Unless you’re bothered by a slightly misshapen mouse.
Victor Rat Glue Board (24 traps) – provide effective pest control with no baiting or setting. The product is a great low-cost alternative to rat control products. The trap requires no setting – just position and catch.
Use a hydrogen peroxide topical solution (available at most drug stores) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. If needed, use a wire brush to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. This could accidentally remove all of the protective zinc plating.
Well we’ve come along way in mouse traps but as you can see sometimes simpler is better. I’m not sure if any of these will usurp old Henry’s contraption but when you have a mouse infestation who cares, as long as you get your mouse. Before you get to cocky however, consider that the mouse has also had 112 years to study the problem and he hasn’t been sitting idle. Almost all of my mouse calls come after the do it yourself bug man has failed to round up his furry friend and I marvel just how a mouse can escape some of the gauntlets I see. Maybe while we’ve kept to the simple time tested methods the nation of mice have spread the word and gone high tech. My advice? Always call the expert!
Ideal if you don’t wish to deal with the disposal of dead mice and rodents. This model is designed to be reused multiple times for years. It can be opened, and refilled with bait periodically. Its pet-safe design means pets (and kids) won’t easily access the bait.
Poison can cause symptoms ranging from mild to severe depending on how much is ingested. If you have reason to believe your pet or child has eaten rat poison, contact your local poison control center immediately — the help you get may be life-saving.
Unscented dish soap can be added to the hot water. When a bait is not attracting the rodents, we recommend trying other baits. Our How to Catch a Rat infographic includes other bait suggestions for both roof rats and Norway Rats. First, buy a small live trap. It looks like a wire cage with a loaded door that shuts behind a rat after it enters. In fact, the caught rodent stays alive. However, the aim of our homemade rat trap is to catch and kill at once. Batteries supply current and make it possible to design a rat killer from any commercially available cage.
Works great, follow the label!! Must be heated for spreading. I finally cut chunks with scissors and laid them on cheap serving trays from the thrift store (metal to take the heat) and baked them at 250 degrees till they flowed out. I caught 17 rats in 1 week with 6 tray traps 🙂
When the trap is battery powered the shocking power gradually gets weaker after every use.  At some point (after 10-15 kills) there will still be some charge in the batteries but the trap won’t kill the rats.   The number of “zaps” you will get is going to depend on the quality of your batteries.   It is not easy to tell when the batteries need to be replaced.
Do Bird Feeders Attract Mice: Having bird feeders offers many hours of enjoyment, bringing birds up close to your home, but you may be inadvertently inviting rodents as well. Learn how to enjoy your bird feeders and keep pests away with proper rodent prevention.
Our traps are capable of dispatching any average sized rat. For reference, the brown rat (most common) average females weight 250g and males weight 350g. The bodies of these rats (not including tail) are generally 6-8 inches in length.
The Rat Zapper Classic RZC001 is safe and non-toxic. It electrocutes rats with no muss and no fuss. Once a rat is inside, empty it out of the trap into any disposable medium. Uses 4 AA batteries which are good for 20 kills. Read Full Review

How it Works – Mice and small rats enter the trap through a side hole.  After entering the trap, they step on a small “trip” plate that releases the entire floor and sweeps them into a holding chamber.  This revolving floor is very gentle to mice and can capture several mice at the same time.  The floor is similar to a “paddle wheel”.  This wheel is spring loaded and will reset itself.  Up to 15 mice can be captured with 1 winding of the spring.  A black spring knob is located on the outside of the trap. This knob is wound by hand several times to engage the spring.
To keep unwelcome “visitors” out, seal entry points using foam sealant, steel wool, hardware cloth, or metal flashing. If any animals need to be removed from homes, this can be done by using humane box traps, like the one pictured here:
There are also non-spring loaded multiple catch mouse traps such as the Tin Cat Mouse Trap.  The Tin Cat Mouse Trap is only good at catching mice, it is too small for capturing rats.  Basically, mice will enter the trap through an opening, and fall into the trap by means of a 1 way door.
Snap E Mouse Trap is a brilliant product to eliminate your mouse or rodent problem. It has a quick response time meaning that once the rodent has been trapped and caught it cannot escape. The preformed bait cup lets easy baiting be used and because it is made from durable polystyrene and steel, it is reliable and sturdy and will last for years f use. The fact that it is reusable means you get your money’s worth too. Coming in handy packs of 6 you can position these traps around your home and catch the pests wherever they may be. The vertical strike bar goes half the distance of the old fashioned wooden mouse traps so it has a much quicker snapping time in order to catch the mouse before it catches the bait. The Snap – E does not allow for stains or odors which is another downfall that the old fashioned wooden traps. The trap has been designed to be simple to use and safe and sanitary for the user and the captured animal so your fingers never touch the rodent, as it is easy to release.
Carefully position the trap without releasing it. Place the baited end of the trap flush against a wall. Once a rodent steps on the trigger, the pin releases and the U-shaped bar snaps back, killing it.
Catseye prefers to use snap traps for humane reasons unless otherwise directed by a client. Ideally, the best solution is to install an exclusion system to prevent mice from ever entering your home again.
Many pest-control experts swear by peanut butter. In fact, they say that rats far prefer peanut butter to cheese. Peanut butter has a strong smell that will attract rats. It’s also quite sticky, meaning that it will be more difficult for rats to pull it off a mouse trap. This prevents rats from snatching the bait and fleeing before the trap catches them. It’s best to dab just a half teaspoon of peanut butter on your rat trap.
Best suited for small mouse infestations and if you just want to see if you really do have mice up there or not. The history behind this traps means its most effective at what’s required – killing mice fast.
The most effective rat trap really depends on the severity of the infestation and the type of solution one chooses to go with. If you have other pets around (e.g. dogs and cats), snap or glue traps aren’t recommended, as they are both dangerous and annoying. If you absolutely have to set rat traps like these around pets, always use non-poisonous baits. Doing so will keep pests contained while posing minimal danger to other animals.
One way to safely catch rats in an area that is accessible to pets and children is with a Havahart live trap.  There are many models of this basic live trap available but this one specifically made for small rodents.
How it works – the rat is lured into the trap by using a lure or food.  When the rat enters the trap, it steps on a metal “trip” plate at the rear of the trap and releases a door.  This seals the rat inside the trap so that it can’t escape.
Product didn’t work, the first night I set it up – the rodent took the bait without exterminating it…it also chewed thru the adapter. I contacted Garden for a replacement adapter and they said they’d look into it in their first response but now their support email account is rejecting my follow up emails (which is very strange)…but now the 30 day return window is closed (coincidence, I think not).
