While basic snap traps are powerful, and box-covered traps are even more potent, a step above all of those simpler trapping devices is the Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap. Operating on four D-size batteries, this thin device fits conveniently alongside walls with its rectangular shape. You simply bait the inside with peanut butter, flip the on-switch and allow the Zapper to do its trick.
Anytime you have a rat on your property, you will want to get it off as soon as possible. Rats can cause all sorts of damage, such as chewing on wires and furniture or even spread disease. Because of this, the sooner you catch and remove the rats, the better. When it comes time to trap the rats, it is common to wonder which bait is the best option since every animal is interested in different foods. While bait may make a difference, you will find out that other factors are actually even more important.

Easy to bait (we used about 5 pellets of dry kitten food), set it against the wall behind the couch where we found mouse droppings and the next morning found a blinking red light and a dead mouse. I feel confident that this is the most humane way to dispose of the little buggers quickly. 3 more nights with it set and no more kills so we must’ve only had one. Thank goodness for the rat zapper!!!
Place the trap along a wall where the rodents have been traveling. Set the teeth of the trap so they face the wall. Rodents traveling along the wall will run onto the yellow trigger and release the trap.
ANSWER: There is limited data on how well electronic or high-frequency sound devices work for household pest control. These devices may be called ultrasonic, electronic, microvibration or electromagnetic pest repellers. The manufacturers state that they use high-frequency sound waves or electromagnetic output to repel insects (cockroaches, fleas, house flies, mosquitoes, rodents, moles, and other pests).  There is truly no data, aside from anecdotal information on various internet sites, as to the effectiveness of these devices.

With this black trap, there will be no escape for any rat or mouse. Once inside the 1.75 x 3.25 x 6.25-inch compartment, the only escape for the creature is dead. The trap uses superior smart circuit technology to sense the intruder and then activates a high-voltage electric shock.

A: Try to use the least amount of bait possible in any style mouse trap used.  The more bait you use, the easier it is for rodents to remove it without disturbing the traps. The goal is to have them apply extra force to the trigger pedal with their nose/tongue to remove the bait.  To do this press a small amount of bait into the bait pedal.
One of the best ways to deal with a rat infestation is to trap them out. Unfortunately, rats are very intelligent and they learn quickly. If one rat sees another get trapped, it will never venture near that trap again, so you may have to employ each and every type on this list to fully take care of the problem. Unless you are dealing with one or two rats that have just entered your living space, the chances are that only one type of trap is not going to solve the problem. That said, the rat traps on this list were selected because they are the easiest to set and place, easy to empty and are highly effective.
The answer?  Put a trap (any trap, not just an electric one) close to a wall or boundary fence where you know or suspect the rodents are running. Make sure the opening of the trap is closest to the wall.
The concept here is that the larger end of the plate, the side without the bait on it, is being held by the buckets edge, to give the mouse support enough to walk onto the plate and make it’s way to the bait.
Raticator Electronic Rat Trap.  If there ever was a “better mouse trap” then this is it.   The Raticator Rat Trap kills by using an electric current to stop the heart.  This electric current is powered by either AA or C batteries – depending on the trap.  The electric current is very weak but strong enough to cause death to the rodent.  These traps are suitable for indoor use around children and pets, but care should be taken to not let them play with it.
Nooski Revolutionary Ring Rat Trap –  If there was ever a rat trap that created instant disgust, it would be the Nooski Ring Rat Trap.  The Nooski Ring Rat Trap is actually an ingenious product developed in New Zealand that is very effective.  All that has to happen is for the rat (out of curiosity) to stick its head inside the Nooski trap, and it is almost instantly killed.  I said “almost instantly.”
Designed for indoor use or anywhere it’s not exposed to outdoor elements, the reusable Rat Zapper Classic Rat Trap provides years of effective rodent control—perfect for attics, garages, basements, and sheds.
This one when I first found it I gave it no mind. I then saw it again on another forum and decided to investigate it a little further.  At first, it looks as if there is just a glass upside down held up by a nickel. Looking closely you can see there is peanut butter smeared on the bottom of the glass. Apparently a penny isn’t big enough so the nickel is the correct size to use here.
In addition to being cruel, indiscriminate, and unsanitary, glue traps and other lethal methods never work to keep rodents away in the long run, and their use will actually backfire. This is because when animals are killed or otherwise removed, the resultant spike in the food supply causes accelerated breeding among survivors and newcomers—and this means increased populations!
Each of these traps is set similarly. For the TOMCAT SecureKill Rat Trap, place peanut butter or TOMCAT Attractant Gel into the bait well prior to setting the trap. Pull the set bar back until you hear a click to let you know that the trap is set.
Keep baiting and trapping until you find uneaten baits in your traps for seven days in a row. Then seal your home and take appropriate precautions to make sure no rat ever wants to enter your home again.
Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.
I don’t know about them being mean, but the real problem is that they are very smart, which is a problem when trying to get rid of them. Like you, I would be happy if I never saw another one, but I prefer humane means to kill them if possible. Years ago I was out in the barn and heard a tiny, high pitched scream. I went to where I had snap traps set and there was a baby rat that had its back broken by the trap; it was screaming in agony. I had to kill it with a hammer. I never want to repeat that!
When this trap catches a rodent, you’ll see the green indicator light that flashes for up to 24 hours to signal that a rodent is in the trap. Victor Rat Trap M240 is highly economical: the manufacturer promises that it can kill about 50 animals per one set of batteries (by the way, batteries are not included). It kills rats, mice, squirrels and other rodents. As to the customers’ experience first killed rat may appear during the first day or just within an hour of placing the trap in the infested area.

Peanut butter is among the most highly recommended rat baits to use because it attracts the animal and is incredibly simple. You most likely already have peanut butter in your home and when you spread it on a trap, it will stay in place. Since the rat can’t just pick it up and take the bait with them, they are more likely to be trapped. While peanut butter is a popular choice, you can also use whole nuts, bacon, berries, gumdrops, or dried fruit. Generally speaking, roof rats will prefer foods that are plant based while Norway rats will prefer items with a lot of sugar, protein, and fat. Either species likes peanut butter and dried fruit.
Place the bait in the center of a 2-door trap. You can either position the bait directly on the trigger plate or hang it from the top of the trap. Position it away from the trap walls so that it is unreachable from outside of the trap.
How it works –  When a rat or mouse stumbles onto the glue, it immediately becomes entangled.  The rodent then usually makes a valiant effort to escape, and as a result usually becomes completely covered in glue, resulting in a long slow death, suffocation or starvation.  In some instances, rats have been known to chew off body parts in order to escape.  When a rat or mouse is captured, simply toss into the trash and replace the board.
It’s a #1 Bestseller Electronic Rodent Trap on Amazon.com! Rat Zapper Classic trap is a one of the most effective and the fastest electronic traps on the market. This opinion based on the Amazon customer reviews (more than 2300) that are full of good words about it. Many people say that it catches more than 100 mice per battery change. And the result (first caught a mouse) have seen the next morning.
Many of us have dogs and cats that roam the yard — a rat trap won’t kill them, but it will hurt them pretty badly. What I do is put down a rat trap – baited with bacon (unlike previous poster, I’m not much for sewing, so I use a twist-tie) – and put it under a plastic milk crate with a couple cinder blocks sitting on top. The pets can’t get to the trap, but the rats can . . . pop goes the rodent! P.S. since I’m lazy, I put the trap set next to the trash can, so I don’t have to walk too far with a dead, stinkin’, flea infested rat.
I’ve used glue traps in the past, and it strikes me as a horrific way for the rodent to die, especially if you don’t see it immediately and dispatch the little guy humanely. So spring traps it is, for now.
Use the Rat Zapper Classic with peanut butter or even ordinary pet food as bait to attract unwanted pests. Its smart circuit technology with metal plates allows it to deliver a two-minute, 8,000 volt shock to any sorry individual that enters its walls.
Spread butter on the handle of a spoon and put it across the bucket. When the mouse climbs to get peanut butter, it will fall into the bucket with a spoon. If you do not like the idea that the mice would ruin cutlery, you can make a similar trap with any other materials, such as paper plate, tissue paper roll, etc or make bucket & spoon trap with water in the bucket.

Are your dogs upset? Do you see small tracks and tail trails in dusty areas? Do you see areas where wood has been gnawed? Do you see smears along baseboards and other areas? Is there a heavy musky odor in the house? Can you see rodent droppings?
Hopefully you can use the information below to select the best mouse trap bait for the mice currently invading your home. You will also learn some tricks to use the bait effectively when you come across those few little guys that like to steal your bait without setting off the trap.
I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.

Given how rats are likely to nest in basements and crawl spaces and travel through vents and wall cavities, traps should be placed along the walls of office rooms and hallways during off hours, as well as placing them in the lower, dark spaces at all times. If there’s a large infestation in a trash room or around a dumpster area, a mass–trapping could be in order.
How it Works – Mice and small rats enter the trap through a side hole.  After entering the trap, they step on a small “trip” plate that releases the entire floor and sweeps them into a holding chamber.  This revolving floor is very gentle to mice and can capture several mice at the same time.  The floor is similar to a “paddle wheel”.  This wheel is spring loaded and will reset itself.  Up to 15 mice can be captured with 1 winding of the spring.  A black spring knob is located on the outside of the trap. This knob is wound by hand several times to engage the spring.
