If glue boards are used in rat control, then the Trapper Tunnel is recommended. The Trapper Tunnel is a piece of heavy cardboard that is shaped like a tunnel. The glue board is placed inside of the tunnel to help keep it protected from dust, dirt and falling objects.  This can help double or even triple the life of the glue board.
I prefer it to snap traps because of the lack of blood and gore – the body is very easily disposed of without leaving a mess behind which is a potential hazard to chickens, pets, wildlife or children.
Note the firm and sensitive settings on the yellow trip pedal. When firm is selected, the trap will be easier to set but slightly more difficult to trip. On sensitive, the trap will be more difficult to set but slightly easier to trip. For the best accuracy and outcome, we recommend setting the trap somewhere between these two settings. Once a rodent triggers the oversized pedal, the trap immediately snaps closed to kill the mouse on contact. Simply lift the kill bar to dispose of the mouse, and reuse the trap. Or, dispose of the entire trap for quick, clean removal. It’s your decision.
There are various methods available for people who want to know how to get rid of rats, but if you decide to make an ideal home rat trap with the help of materials at hand, use any of the following methods:
Terminator Trap costs ~$92.95 (2-pack), but as Amazon customers think, is it worth it (in most cases). But you’d better not to wait for a quick win over rodents and be extremely patient. Rats are smart animals and they don’t like new things. Do you know that they may offer food (include poison baits) to younger rats at first to decide is it worth to eat it? So it may take about a few days for the first rats’ killings.
Rodents prefer foods that are high in protein and fat. Try using peanut butter, hazelnut spread, chocolate and meats such as bacon or beef jerky. Be careful not to use too much. Rodents have a very strong sense of smell, so only a small amount of bait is needed to attract them to the trap.

Glue Rat Traps: Such traps (strips, boards or trays with natural or synthetic glue) are worse then Live Catch Rat Trap. Yes, they are cheap, you can buy it from ~$3, but they make suffer not only rats but you. Just imagine. Night. You are quietly sleeping in your cosy bed. And suddenly you wake up from squeaking. You’ve caught one mouse! But it won’t die quickly, it may last some hours or even days  before it dies from dehydration and pain. Also, you must know that glue traps can hold young rats or mice when a rat can make free itself in an hour or two. Our verdict: Cheap but messy — from ~$3.
Place trap facing wall where you see rat activity. Press set-arm with your foot or hand. You will hear a ‘click’ when set. Bait well should be placed perpendicular to the wall with the bait facing wall. Target areas with high rat activity where smudge marks or droppings are discovered. Place traps at 5-10 feet intervals.
The original wood-based wire snap trap, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap, 12 Pack, provides instant rodent control. For effective rat control, each rat trap comes pre-baited with a large, scented plastic ‘swiss cheese’ trip pedal. The large pedal of this rat trap is easily activated – both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor – to ensure maximum trapping.
There are two distinguishable rats that you might notice in your home: black rats and brown rats. Black rats are vegetarians, so they eat only plant foods – while brown rats eat both meat and plant foods. You know what the perfect plant food that both of them will love is? That’s right. Peanut butter. Not only does it fit with a rat’s diet, but it is also sticky, making the rat more likely to disturb as well as set off the trap. Who knew that peanut butter would be good for something other than eating with a spoon?
Some of the customers are nevertheless unhappy. They claim that a rat gets electrocuted, but the charge is not lethal. It looks as if a sudden flash of light throws a rat several feet away from the trap! Other customers complain that the Hoont Trap has become a trough as there are less bait and no dead bodies. Whose opinion is more trustworthy? It’s up to you to decide. We recommend you to wear protective gloves regardless of the type of an electronic rat trap in order not to scare the rats off with your smell.
Quickly and effectively kills brown and black rats Powerful snap design thats easy to use Conveniently set traps with hand or foot Patented trap uses interlocking jaws to make escape virtually impossible Removable bait cup enhances trap servicing even when unset
If live trapping is the preference you end up trying to do the “responsible” thing, beware of local laws and regulations.  In many areas, relocation of wild animals is prohibited.  Relocating to different counties can also be against the law.  Be sure to check with your local animal control official before relocating any live rat.  In some cases, they may even offer to come out and pick it up.
Saw poo in my attic. Took action: cut the trees away from the eaves, and put this up there with a schmear of store-brand peanut butter. A few days later, went up in my attic and took away the dead rat. Re-populated it and no new poo or rats have appeared. But Victor will be waiting, with delicious peanut butter, if they do.
Luckily, thanks to modern technology, we have incredible mouse trap solutions available to trap these mice (humanely or otherwise) and dispose of them as we see fit. We also want to use the best mouse trap bait available or even the most perfectly designed piece of technology will not produce any results whatsoever.
I live in Baltimore city. We have rats the size of small cats. I tried the black cat super (green) glue strips. Those DID catch the rats but – as soon as we came around they were strong enough to rip their little bodies off, albeit missing some fur. One even ran away with the strip still attached. I tried the wooden rat traps – nothing. I tried the black cat rat sized black tunnel with poison at the end. Nothing. With both the wooden trap and the tunnel the rats ate the food without springing the traps (although that wooden one got me!)

Spread peanut butter over the surface of the can. When a mouse scurries up the ramp to eat, in theory, he will leap to the can for the bait, spin off the wheel and drown. I can’t see why this bucket mouse trap wouldn’t work on mice.
Havahart Live Catch Rat Trap –  Trapping live animals can be tricky.  First – it takes “pre-baiting” in which the trap is wired open so that it can’t close.  Then it requires a careful plan of strategy to “catch” the rat.  Live traps for rats are exactly the same as the larger animal traps for rabbits, skunks and squirrels.  The Havahart Live Catch Rat Trap captures the rat alive so that it can be relocated and released to another area.
Baiting rat traps with peanut butter is a good way to catch a rat. One just positions a pea-size glob of peanut butter on the rat trap and waits for the rat to bite. Positioning several rat traps in areas where rats have been spotted or rat droppings have been noticed is a good strategy. It can take several days of baiting and re-baiting traps to catch a rat.
Just because a trap hasn’t snapped doesn’t mean it hasn’t had a visitor. It just means the rat in question was sly enough to pry away the bait without getting caught. If the snap didn’t do the trick the first time, simply try it again. There’s really no reason to add slow-working chemicals into the process considering how traps are designed to kill on contact.
Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the yellow pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.

Although silent and effective, these traps need to be emptied regularly or other rats will become “trap wary” and either avoid the area completely, urinate on them as a marker, or tip them over to render the trap ineffective.
Rats that regularly find their way to our dwellings are indeed annoying and nasty pests. Unfortunately, they can surmount all the hurdles and gnaw through everything to get into seemingly impenetrable, hard-to-reach places. Moreover, they transfer serious diseases, attack humans and pets, contaminate food and make a mess. Rat control measures involve traditional and modern methods of extermination, such as sealing up the homes, using rat predators, snap traps, poisonous baits, rat zappers, glue boards and others. In all cases, the best option is to start from the removal of mess (where they find their shelter), water and food sources. You can purchase different types of snap traps or make your own homemade rat trap to get rid of coming pests.
According to customers’ reviews, Raticator know how to kill gophers too. But what about rats’ capture? Some customers are happy:  “GOT THIS IN TONIGHT and 2 hours later… BAM! Dumped him out, refilled with dry dog food, and 30 minutes later… BAM! Repeated the process and in less than an hour… BAM! A huge rat. Repeated the process. It’s now 12:30 AM and I’m waiting for another kill!”. Make your conclusions about its efficiency yourself.
