Once crimped, insert the wire into both holes. You will need to bend the second side of the wire to get it in the hole. Just straighten the wire after it’s through the hole. Center the can over the bucket opening and bend the spare wire on the outside of the bucket around the bucket rim to keep the can centered over the bucket.
Only unfortunate thing is, if you use these outside near areas that little birds congregate, they are sensitive enough that the birds can sometimes set them off. Which doesn’t end well for the bird sad to say.. But, I usually pour one out for the dead birdie if that happens, and move on..
Electronic Rat Traps: Bless the people who’ve invented such units! No blood. No squeaking. No mess! High voltage shock kills rats in seconds. The rat gets inside, completing the electric circuit with its body. There is no chance to escape. The electricity is running through its body for at least two minutes. There is no “resurrection” after impact. Easy to empty and clean. You haven’t to touch the corpses, just throw them into a trash can and clean up the tray using vinegar or dish detergent if it’s needed. Remember, rats don’t like the dead rat smell.
Just like the name suggests, this trap will eliminate rats as well as mice. Eliminator Robust Electronic Rat measures 11 x 5 x 5 inches and has enough space for most rats to creep in and meet their fate. It is based on a superior technology that upon sensing the intruder delivers a powerful 7000-volt shock that kills the rodent.
I came out, walked around the house and nearly stained my drawers. Near my feet I found a younger possum (Not full grown adult) with one of the traps stuck on its snout. This catch caused me some very deep emotional thought. Should I end the life of the disease bag that got stuck in trap, or do I give the little bugger a chance and somehow try to remove the trap? I figured since Ralph (that’s what I’m naming him) wasn’t my intended target, I’d pardon him this one time. With gloves, a big garbage can lid, a long shovel, and all the manliness I could muster, I was able to cover him with the lid and release the trap from his snout using the shovel. I then took a rake and lifted the lid and ran like a child as my new friend meandered under my bushes/deck area. I made an agreement that if he leaves by the next day, he won’t be physically evicted. Thankfully, Ralph left and hopefully he told his friends that my deck area isn’t a good place to hang around.
Tons of companies, including  CVS, Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, and Walgreens,  have stopped selling glue traps, and many other businesses have stopped using glue traps after hearing from concerned customers. Unfortunately, some companies still sell these inhumane devices. Whenever you see glue traps for sale, send a polite letter to the store manager. Ask him or her to stop selling the traps and point out the many companies nationwide that have already sworn off glue traps.
But why peanut butter? Do rats like peanut butter? In fact, they absolutely do. There is little information regarding exactly why rats and peanut butter go together so well – or how anyone found out that they did. Regardless of why and how, it has been tested and proven that one of the best and most trusted ways to bait a rat is by spreading the yummy, sticky substance that is peanut butter right onto a trap. Once you get it all set, the rats will be sure to come running.
Very strong spring, and very sensitive trigger. Works great. They almost feel a little hard to pull back, more so than my original wooden Victor traps. But I’m very happy with these. I actually had two pull out of the older style wooden traps with wire snap. These have a jagged edge that makes a lip to keep the critter in place. I would suggest using a heavy work glove when setting these. I would hate to get my finger snapped in one. I would recommend these, and hope I don’t need to buy more – they seem to be working.

We got this and I was so tired of having been woken up every night for a month that it was hard to resist setting this trap up right away. We did put it out with the door open and food inside … full review
Once the baiting program has begun, do not move bait stations to different locations as rats may react unfavorably to the change and begin avoiding the stations. Bait type and formulation used inside the stations should also remain the same.
So what is the best location for the trap? As far as pesky rats prefer travelling along wires and walls and tend to use the same pathways, the best place for the trap – lethal or humane – is against a closest-to-the-damage wall.
Live traps are a variation of the common wire cage with a trap door. Most live rat traps can also be used for other small rodents and animals like weasels, chipmunks, gophers and similar-sized creatures. Once the rat is caught, you can release it into an area away from your home or business, or you can dispose of it manually in a humane way.
Be sure to thoroughly clean the snap traps between uses. Rats will smell “death” on a trap that’s recently killed another rat. I have the black plastic snap traps. After removing the dead rat (triple wrapped in plastic and put in the deep freeze until garbage day), I drop the trap into a bucket with about a litre of very hot water and some bleach; soak for a few hours, scrub with a brush and then, if you want, rewash it (I actually put mine in the dishwasher, after a thorough bleaching and scrubbing). It should just smell like clean plastic when it comes out of the dishwasher. Re-bait it, put it where the rats are active, let it do its thing, and repeat! 🙂 I am sorry that I have to kill these buggers, but if they’re in my house, they need to be killed. My house is 108 years old and has all kinds of secret places for rodents to come and go, but this year (2016), here on Vancouver Island, there is a huge rat problem so I’ve become very cutthroat about killing them.
Q.I recently purchased a victor electronic rat trap Model M241 it worked great for about one month or 30 rats but it’s now showing the LED green light and The LED red light at the same time and its not working. I will like to know if there is something I can do or what do the lights mean?

Heck I hate rats and mice altogheter. I shoot them on site every time that’s possible with airgun. Good thing you got this sob. I’m having some at biz it’s no good… Will start spread traps around soon. And keep the air rifle loaded and uncocked for an oportunistic shot…
You can make a good homemade trap out of milk bottle. To do this, take a bottle and pour oil on the wall in order to make it slippery. You should also be put inside the bait. Also, you should attach any rail on the bottleneck so the mouse can climb up the bottle. Leave the trap all night. When a mouse finds food, it will climb up the rail and eventually fall into the bottle. But slippery walls will prevent it from getting out. This method is also humane: you can release the mouse outside. But this water bottle homemade rat trap is often too small for large fattened rats.
Attempt to locate “favorite feeding locations” (indicated by a high concentration of rodent signs-droppings, tracks, odors, shredded paper, etc.) and replace existing food sources with bait stations in these locations.
Once you catch a rat in a live trap you will need to figure out what you want to do with it.  Some states have laws that require you to kill any trapped nuisance rodents.  If you do decide to release the rat then do so as far away from your home (and those of others) as practical.

Remember: Glue traps cause slow, agonizing deaths for the animals they trap. Never use glue traps, and share this with your family and friends so that they will learn the truth about these vile devices, too. Mice and rats are intelligent, sensitive animals who are just as capable of pain and suffering as the cats and dogs we share our homes with.
Glue traps never work to keep animals away long-term. The following evening, I entered the kitchen to find the same dirty and disheveled mouse stuck to a new glue trap. Despite my efforts, he wasn’t able to survive the stress of a second entrapment.
Norway rats are larger than the smaller, and sleeker Roof Rats. Roof rats have bigger ears and a longer tail than the Norway rat. Also, the roof rat has a pointed nose, and they are excellent climbers. Roof Rats inhabit attics, upper stories, and exterior vegetation. Norway rats occupy lower portions of the building and the ground.
PETA often fields calls from people who have discovered small “nontarget” animals hopelessly trapped on these sticky boards. One distraught woman found a glue trap with a bird, two frogs, and a salamander stuck to its surface. All the animals were still alive when she found them but died later, despite her efforts to free them.
Spread peanut butter over the surface of the can. When a mouse scurries up the ramp to eat, in theory, he will leap to the can for the bait, spin off the wheel and drown. I can’t see why this bucket mouse trap wouldn’t work on mice.

I have a garden and a bunch of fruit trees, plus thick hedges covering the privacy fence and wall in my backyard. Recently, it’s been attracting rats. First I noticed my trees and garden were suspiciously sparse on fruit / vegetables, and then I began noticing rat turds on my hammocks, porch chairs / table, etc.
The Hoont trap even has ventilation. All in all, the design is thought through down to the tiniest detail. Does it kill rats and mice, though? We’ll turn to the customer feedback for the answer. Within 6 months after the launch, more than 400 reviews have been written on Amazon.com. This is a bit strange for a new product. All of the customers are either satisfied with the device or try to prove its uselessness.

Once a rat has been caught, a red light flashes. Then, you empty the rat into a sealable plastic bag, re-bait and place the Zapper back in the rat’s path for another kill. The Zapper kills rats instantly with a powerful 8,000-volt zap. Clean and easy, you never have to touch the rat itself. The Zapper handles all the dirty work.
It might be best not to completely rely on these devices for pest control. Your best bet is to call your local Orkin Branch Office and have an Orkin Pest Specialist come to your home and provide you with a thorough rodent inspection. Your Orkin Pest Specialist will develop a customized, scientifically proven, treatment protocol that best fits your needs.

Live traps are generally larger than standard snap traps.  The larger trap size can be more of an issue to the rat and can create “trap shyness”.  Live rat traps also create another problem – the rat is alive when captured.   The rat has to then be relocated far enough away that it can’t find it’s way back.  That usually means a trip in the car or truck to let it go somewhere.
When people look to methods to get rid of rodents, they often turn to an extermination company. These methods provide a safe disposal system that means you don’t have to touch the rat. In some systems, you don’t even have to see it. The chances of them getting away are nearly none with these revamped styles.
When selecting a type of mouse bait, look for strong smelling food bits that will draw the mouse into your trap. Foods high is fat or protein are good choices.  Mice also have a sweet tooth, so sweet sticky candy or chocolate is a very effective mouse bait.
You will need a 2-liter soda bottle, barbwire, glue, toothpick and bait (peanut butter, bacon, sunflower seeds). Before making the rat trap diy, put on latex or vynil gloves to avoid leaving human scent. Take a 2-liter soda bottle and cut 2 inches off the top. The opening will be the entrance.
I know this is an old post, but you actually want the stairway to heaven in line with the wire. The vermin will attempt to high wire in an effort to get to the bait. If it doesn’t make it to the can, it loses its balance and will try to gain foot on the can. Then it’s bye bye Ratzilla!
