Simon Mann is a “handy man” to have around the house. Although he was a trained carpenter he went on to become a VP of a construction company. Any pest or DIY problem you may have, he always seems to come up with the right solution.
Rats present a large problem to agriculture; it is estimated that millions of dollars’ worth of food crops are lost annually to their incursions; rat populations are also on the rise in urban areas across the US fuelling fears of the spread of disease. Rat control has become a huge and lucrative industry and the use of rat traps is a major tool in the battle against the rodents.
I purchased one, a week ago, to control fleas and bugs. Also, we have some spiders. The fleas activity was reduced. I don’t want to say that it stopped totally yet. My arms are getting a chance to heal now from the bites I get when sleeping. I believe the product works. I have not seen a single spider around. It’s important to get rid of clutter around the house because ‘things’ will absorb the sound. It may depend on what product brand you purchase. I purchased the “Transonic Pro Electronic Pest Repeller”. I got mine from Gardenfun.com but you might find them somewhere else also. Give it a week or two to see results. My husband agreed about the change in our home.
Best of all, glue traps do not use harmful chemicals or poisons to eliminate the rodent problem in your home. Victor® rat glue traps consist of a non-toxic glue to offer a superior hold. For peace of mind, this glue can be safely used anywhere around your home or business – even around food, water, children and pets!

Terrified rats and mice sometimes scream as they try to escape the glue. Glue traps rip patches of skin, fur, and feathers off the animals’ bodies as they struggle to get away, and many animals even chew off their own legs trying to free themselves.
Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.
This is a domestic rat trap made from a ladle and a spoon. It is known as one of the best homemade traps. For a good result, you only require a huge bucket, a spoon and some bait such as peanut butter. By the way, you can make a peanut butter for rat bait yourself in less than 15 minutes. Just take peeled peanuts, roast them, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and put this mix in a blender – done!
The pungent smell of pepper makes it hard for the rats to breathe and threatens their survival. Simply sprinkle some crushed pepper around the corners and the holes where they reside. You will notice positive results. Repeat the process if necessary.
There is an old saying, once attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.” Whether Emerson said it or not, it is a truism that has been embraced by society, and is reflected in the fact that traps to catch both mice and rats are the most frequently invented (or is that reinvented?) device in U.S. History.
The box of traps arrived in a timely fashion and I set to work baiting the traps with peanut butter and setting only two before the rat’s seemingly regularly scheduled dinner time. I placed one along the base of a fence I’d seen it use as its own personal rat highway. And, I placed the second one in the garden among the Chablis peppers and the rat turds that were the size of small logs. The trap along the base of the fence was well situated, directly in the rat’s path and facing the fence, as the instructional videos recommend. The plants along the edge of the yard provide good cover for animals as they move along the outskirts of the yard, obscured from direct line of sight. And, the one in the garden was among the half eaten remains of peppers that had already fallen prey to the rat’s insatiable appetite. Then, the hard part … waiting.
For rodent control, anecdotal data may indicate that these devices can provide some level of control for a short period of time. But rodents seem to learn to avoid the mechanisms used. Mice quickly become accustomed to regularly repeated sounds. Ultrasonic sounds have limited use in rodent control because they are directional and do not penetrate behind objects. Testing of sound devices shows that about half the sound energy is gone within 15 feet of the device.
A: Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For mice, anything high in protein like peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread is a great option. Also, nesting materials like dental floss, cotton or string are also great options. Try to use whatever bait or nesting material the rodents are currently feeding on or using to build nests.

We caught chipmunks in our backyard with the department store cages. I decided to use the big corded ultrasound device, that my dad loves having in the basement for bugs, on a chipmunk in a cage. On all 10 supposed frequencies this God-mode device has, like the loud one for squirrels and down to the anti-bedbug, the chipmunk didn’t react one bit!
To trap Roof Rats, set traps on tree limbs, under vegetation on a backyard fence or trellis, or on other aboveground locations roof rats are known to frequent. Fasten the traps with wire to overhead pipes, rafters and beams.
There’s no limit as to what you can use to catch rats. Maybe you’ve got mason jars leftover from projects or gifts. Good news! Even these can be converted into live-rat traps. A single catch-and-release method, but hey? It works.
Glue or adhesive traps or boards are one of many methods for control of mouse and rat issues, but they also provide a way to uncover and track rodent activity. They can be used standalone, or as part of a total system of rodent control alongside baits and mechanical traps. While you should use any rodent control solution in low-traffic areas of the home, glue traps are pesticide-free and do not snap on hands and paws, so they can be placed in a wider variety of locations.

Bell and Howell pestrepellers 10 pack on HSN DO NOT WORK .They do not remove bugs already in the home. I called the company itself who suggested I open a window so moths, flys , and other flying insects can fly out!!!!!! What about what flies in at that time?? I was very disapointed in the B & H reply. They promised to call back and I never heard from them again. I had to use poisonous sprays to take care of the problem myself.as the moth problem was spreading all over the house and to adjoining apartments. Save your investment . They don’t work at all.
I haven’t used them yet but I bought 5 of them for 2 dollars n some change each off eBay ….so I spent 11 dollars n change all together for 5 of them…..I got a new apartment. .the neighbor has a infestation of roaches..so there where roaches..and spiders..omg.. I used insect fogger in each room …a boric acid ..and roach gel in the corners and crevasses…I haven’t moved in yet ..even though I’ve only seen 1 roach everytime I visit…so I just hope these ultrasonic things work..and keep everything out ..I have a 1 year old..we can’t live in there until every insect is out
For your convenience, the trap’s design allows you to easily dispose of the dead rodent without having to see or touch it. The new and improved design of the electronic trap has a removable kill chamber, which provides better plate access so you can easily clean and bait it in between uses. These traps require no poison or chemicals and can be used anywhere inside your home or business to ensure years of effective rat control.
Remember: Glue traps cause slow, agonizing deaths for the animals they trap. Never use glue traps, and share this with your family and friends so that they will learn the truth about these vile devices, too. Mice and rats are intelligent, sensitive animals who are just as capable of pain and suffering as the cats and dogs we share our homes with.
Determine what types of rodents are in your home. Determine rodent type based on the rodent dropping you find. Mice droppings are a ¼ inch long with pointy ends, and rat droppings are ½-¾ inch with relatively rectangular or sausage like shapes.[1] Squirrel droppings are roughly 3/8 inch with rounded edges, and can be recognized by the fact that they lighten in color over time.[2]
