I prefer it to snap traps because of the lack of blood and gore – the body is very easily disposed of without leaving a mess behind which is a potential hazard to chickens, pets, wildlife or children.
Device Location: The sound waves from ultrasonic pest control devices are short range and very weak, so they’re easily blocked by furniture, walls, and corners. To test out the location of your device, place a lamp next to the device, turn off all the other lights, and note the beams and shadows from the lamp. The repellent sound waves will pretty much only be active where the light reaches.
A: The Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Trap can be reused or disposed of. It is personal preference. Check the traps frequently to ensure the trap is emptied as soon as the mouse is captured and the traps will last longer. Please note that for personal hygiene and biohazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.

Be sure to position the snap trap so that the baited end of each trap is placed perpendicular to the wall. Rodents generally travel with their bodies against a wall for protection.  It may be necessary to bait a rat trap without setting the trap and allow the bait to be eaten a couple of times. Then set the trap with more bait. Rats tend to shy away from new objects so this method gets them accustomed to the trap.  Mice are more inquisitive than rats, so pre-baiting is less likely to be needed.
Insert skewers into the bottle. Take two five-inch wooden skewers of the kind used to grill shish kebab or construct various arts and crafts projects. They should be only a millimeter or so in diameter. Press the two skewers through the bottle from one set of points to the other using the marks you made.
Do not use a trash can which is too wide. If you do, it’s possible the tube will come to rest on an angle, rather than straight up and down. If that happens, the mouse will be able to climb out of the tube easily.
Many of us have dogs and cats that roam the yard — a rat trap won’t kill them, but it will hurt them pretty badly. What I do is put down a rat trap – baited with bacon (unlike previous poster, I’m not much for sewing, so I use a twist-tie) – and put it under a plastic milk crate with a couple cinder blocks sitting on top. The pets can’t get to the trap, but the rats can . . . pop goes the rodent! P.S. since I’m lazy, I put the trap set next to the trash can, so I don’t have to walk too far with a dead, stinkin’, flea infested rat.
I am the best mouser in our house (and we have three cats!) Like you, I found that rodents can eat peanut butter or cheese right off a trap without springing it. So I took to cooking a piece of turkey bacon until it was just shy of crispy, then I threaded a needle and “sewed” it onto the trap. Then I put the trap between the cabinet and stove so that the mice could only approach it from the striking side (and if the cats stuck their paws in there, the trap would spring away from them).

A: Electronic mouse traps are the quickest and easiest way to catch mice. They are easy to use, with no setting or glue required. Their no-touch technology, plus 100% kill rate makes them an ideal way to control your mouse problem. If you would like more information on how to catch a mouse, view our complete guide below.
I moved into my newly built home one year ago, I had some ants last year and lots of those black long bugs with the pinchers on the tail and a couple other types of bugs, had a mouse the first night I slept here. I bought a six pack of repellers at Costco and have them all plugged in one in garage and four of them in second floor.
A. Use a glue board rather than a glue tray. Or if you use a glue board, place it where it is lower than the rest of the floor. A glue trap has an edge that the rodent will stop to inspect. A glue board does not.
The thought of using a wide-mouth bucket to increase the distance to the bait wheel occurred to me early on in this epic battle. But due to my obsession with destroying Ratzilla’s posse in a timely manner, I had no time to waste. I wanted them dead. Now!
I came out the next morning before work and both traps had been sprung. The trap set along the fence – nada. The trap in the garden – success! I disposed of the rat and re-baited and re-set the traps because I suspect where there’s one rat, there’s many. So, with the Victor M326 Professional Rat Trap as my weapon of choice the Great Garden Rat War of 2013 will rage on … and any remaining rat’s days are numbered.
Take the mouse a distance from your home and release it. Wear sanitary gloves and carry the bottle in an upright position at least five to ten miles away from any human habitation.[4] Open the trap in a meadow or forest, allowing the mouse to go free. Dispose of the sanitary gloves and bottle trap.
Lastly, get a cheap infrared webcam and set it up so you don’t have to go check the trap all the time… set it up to email you video of the rat getting caught, then you can pull out a fresh, non stinky rat and pitch him into the trash or local stand of trees as a food donation for needy racoons etc.
2. I wonder how many rats have died to ensure that your extended-release medications won’t kill you, or that your wife’s (or your) cosmetics won’t hurt you. It makes me want to feel sorry for these wonderful creatures. We owe them a lot.
Once the wire is through both ends, make sure the wire extends a few inches past the bucket on both edges. With the threaded can centered over the bucket, crimp the wire at both ends of the can. This will keep the can sliding to the edge of the bucket which would defeat the trap.

For the best results, we recommend placing the trap along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The bait and trigger end of the mouse trap should be flush against the wall so that mice will be tempted to explore them. We recommend baiting the trap with a toothpick amount of peanut butter. Anything more than that, and the mice may be able to access the bait without setting off the trap.
Glue-trap manufacturers generally direct consumers to throw away animals along with the trap, leaving the animals to suffer for days until they finally die of stress, starvation, or dehydration—all cruel and painful deaths.

The only thing to remember here would be to make sure you put the top on the bottle before you set the trap, I can see the confusion on your face now followed with a head shake and a, “I can’t believe I did that” statement.
For rodent control, anecdotal data may indicate that these devices can provide some level of control for a short period of time. But rodents seem to learn to avoid the mechanisms used. Mice quickly become accustomed to regularly repeated sounds. Ultrasonic sounds have limited use in rodent control because they are directional and do not penetrate behind objects. Testing of sound devices shows that about half the sound energy is gone within 15 feet of the device.

Determine what types of rodents are in your home. Determine rodent type based on the rodent dropping you find. Mice droppings are a ¼ inch long with pointy ends, and rat droppings are ½-¾ inch with relatively rectangular or sausage like shapes.[1] Squirrel droppings are roughly 3/8 inch with rounded edges, and can be recognized by the fact that they lighten in color over time.[2]
We had a double deck built in August this year thus, assume this is where the origin of our problem occurred. As a result, we began to see a large brown rat of which had burrowed under the deck up against the basement wall. With the sound of constant chewing then sudden squealing we realized she had given birth. The rodent entered at the outside air condition unit under the deck and now, are in the basement . At this point, we hired a pest control to use humane options $400. caught one rat and did not leave the trap at that cost! Obviously glue traps do not work, after the first release. Then, again able to remove the bait from another clamp trap apparently out smarting us again. What about a bucket trap? Advise please.
I have been using some of the expensive ones of these [electro-magnetic and ultrasonic][advertised on TV] for about 5-6 years with good results. My Dogs don’t seem to be affected. I gave one to My Son as he had mice but His Pet Lizard was VERY affected by it. I have one in a large metal garden shed and it seems to keep most things out of the shed. My two other sheds do get mice or rats occasionally which I kill with baits. I put one of these in another Sons Apartment which had lots of cockroaches, and the tenants next door complained about all the cockroaches they had.. lol. As lizards don’t like these, maybe snakes don’t either?
A. Mice trapped on a glue board or glue tray seldom live long enough for you to find them alive. They have very fast metabolisms and need to eat nearly all the time. They expire from lack of energy in at most a few hours.
How to Set Your Trap Learn how to bait and set the classic mouse trap with the help of experts at VICTOR®. Once set, a rodent triggers the metal pedal, and the trap immediately springs closed to kill the mouse. Then, simply lift the rugged metal kill bar to dispose of the body. The trap can be disposed of, or reused many times over, at your discretion.
I live on the 4th floor in single bed flat in london. I own a cat. About 14 days ago I watched a medium sized rat with a foot of tail walk across my living room floor at about 2am. The cat decided to ignore it, I think she sensed it was not worth the bother. It has been living in my kitchen sink unit . . . Last time, I poisoned a rat it was so traumatic for both of us I made a vow never to use it again. I decided to go for the trad larger spring mouse trap design . . It is supposed to break the neck instantly. . . the rat was too quick for it or it just nibbled the bait away.

Any trap that utilizes rat poison is considered to be inhumane. Rat poisons, almost without exception use chemical substances which can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to actually kill the rat by slow building toxicity.
Unfortunately, I never knew just how inhumane glue traps are until I actually used one. Now, I know that there are many reasons never to use glue traps in your home. Not only do they cause slow and agonizing deaths for the animals they trap, they can also be dangerous to humans and animal companions.
