For best results, place TOMCAT Glue Boards directly in the rodent’s runway between its nest and food supply — every 8 to 12 feet (2.4 to 3.6m) for mice and 15 to 30 feet (4.5 to 9m) for rats. TOMCAT’s translucent plastic tray blends with the environment for a professional appearance.
In that sense, they won’t necessarily approach an unfamiliar object or trap, especially if they see that another rat has already been captured. Some people also keep mice and rats as pets (in cages), so one must take this into account when setting any type of trap around the house. Doing so will keep a pet rat safe from harm while only baiting and trapping the animals that shouldn’t be in the area.

You have to know that despite the fact that batteries last a very long time you need to replace them if you don’t find newly killed rodents for a long time. This can happen if your “uninvited visitors” are too big for the trap’ tunnel hole. The Victor company tells that this trap kills 100 mice per each per set of 4AA batteries, but as to Amazon customers’ reviews it turns out that this number is a little less – about 35 killed mice in fall and winter. It’s a big or a small capture?
Rats. It’s a chilling thought. Could a home as nice as yours have rats in it? You don’t always see them, but they leave clear signs. You might start noticing droppings in the pantry, grease marks on the baseboards, or chew marks in food packaging. First of all, don’t feel overwhelmed. Tomcat can help you deal with the problem.

They are meant for a quick and easy disposal and cleanup. Victor makes these units with superior quality and they are safe enough to be placed anywhere in the home. I purchased a few of the Victor Professional rat trraps and the rats are getting in these traps and walking away. These traps do a good job on mice and smaller rats but the large ones are escaping. I wish Victor would put stronger springs on their traps. It would be a great improvement on these otherwise excellent traps.
The all-weather housing allows the trap to be used indoors and outdoors while the 2-chamber designs make cleaning easy. It delivers a heart-stopping shock that kills the rat or mice in a humane manner without blood, splatter or any other mess.
There are both plug-in models and battery operated models, so that they can be used virtually anywhere, with or without an external power source. These traps must also be checked regularly, and many types feature a bulb that lights up on the trap exterior when the trap is occupied. When a rat is caught, you merely empty it out into the garbage or other place for waste disposal, and place the trap back where you want it.

How it Works – Mice and small rats enter the trap through a side hole.  After entering the trap, they step on a small “trip” plate that releases the entire floor and sweeps them into a holding chamber.  This revolving floor is very gentle to mice and can capture several mice at the same time.  The floor is similar to a “paddle wheel”.  This wheel is spring loaded and will reset itself.  Up to 15 mice can be captured with 1 winding of the spring.  A black spring knob is located on the outside of the trap. This knob is wound by hand several times to engage the spring.
Did you know that contrary to popular belief, rats prefer fresh, high-quality foods and will reject spoiled or inferior food items when given a choice? Desley Whisson, Extension Vertebrate Pest Specialist, University of California claims: Rodent baits should be made from high-quality food materials, and baits which have become rancid or insect-infested should be discarded.

There are several different types of rat traps available on the market, the most effective being the electronic variety. An electronic trap detects a rat’s presence using its metal floor plates and delivers a high-voltage electric shock to the animal with the help of batteries. When a rat enters the trap (to find a non-lethal bait attractant) and steps on the plates, the rat completes the trap’s electric circuit, triggering an electric shock to the pest. The shock typically lasts anywhere from one to two minutes to prevent the animal’s heart from restarting. Some electronic traps offer remote operation designed to alert you when a kill has been made using a red or green light. When the rat has been eliminated, disposal is accomplished without having to touch or see the animal by sliding it into the trash.
There are two distinguishable rats that you might notice in your home: black rats and brown rats. Black rats are vegetarians, so they eat only plant foods – while brown rats eat both meat and plant foods. You know what the perfect plant food that both of them will love is? That’s right. Peanut butter. Not only does it fit with a rat’s diet, but it is also sticky, making the rat more likely to disturb as well as set off the trap. Who knew that peanut butter would be good for something other than eating with a spoon?
When an infestation persists, one of the more effective methods of elimination involves getting rats accustomed to traps before setting them.  To introduce a trap, place it in an active area but don’t set it. Allow rats to feed off this “safe” trap for a day or two. Once the critters have accepted this object as part of their regular turf, bait the trap again, but set it up to snap the next rat that crosses its path.

How it works – a heavy gauge wire is pulled back and locked on one side of the trap.  When a rat steps on the yellow lure plate, the wire is released and instantly crushes the rat.  The wire is very heavy and the spring is very strong on most of these traps. The force of impact is enough to crush and even smash the rat to death.
