Works great, follow the label!! Must be heated for spreading. I finally cut chunks with scissors and laid them on cheap serving trays from the thrift store (metal to take the heat) and baked them at 250 degrees till they flowed out. I caught 17 rats in 1 week with 6 tray traps 🙂
In our opinion, we rank the Good Nature New Zealand as the best trap for them all. Firstly, its innovative-design allures the rats and kills them faster than the others. Secondly, it’s very simple and easy to use even without following the included instructions. Thirdly, the five-star rating and positive reviews are quite high. Finally, it has a high success rate compared to the rest. With the Good Nature rat trap, the rat menace will be over sooner-rather-than-later.
In either scenario, these are the most labor intensive types of traps, but they are effective. They aren’t widely employed mainly because these traps are designed for catch and release; in many communities it’s illegal to release a wild black rat.
Saw poo in my attic. Took action: cut the trees away from the eaves, and put this up there with a schmear of store-brand peanut butter. A few days later, went up in my attic and took away the dead rat. Re-populated it and no new poo or rats have appeared. But Victor will be waiting, with delicious peanut butter, if they do.
Thanks everyone, I hate rats. Last year they attacked my giant tomatoes and giant pumpkins. They seem to thrive in my compost heaps and under weed matting. I found plastic owls deter rodents but they don’t stop the birds. A year or so ago my dog ate bait so I’m a bit phobic of it.
Both of these traps allow for disposal without touching the rat. The SecureKill Rat Trap has a grab tab for easy disposal. For easy clean up, dispose of the trap and the rodent together. If you would prefer to reuse the trap, pinch the trap open and drop the dead rodent in the trash.
Q.I am having great difficulty setting the “easy set” traps. There is little difference between firm & sensitive settings. Bring back the metal latches, I could set those. These new traps are totally useless to me.
My neighbor refuses to clean up after her dog and there is dog feces on her patio. I saw a large dark furry creature scurry across my patio at dusk last night heading in her direction. Do dog droppings attract rats?
After inspecting the rat infested areas, place the rat glue boards in those areas. Place the glue traps directly in their runways. Rats usually travel along baseboards and walls, since they use the walls for guidance. Place glue traps where there has been rodent activity.

I purchased these traps thinking they were bigger than other traps I had purchased but they were the same size. The picture was deceiving. Two of the traps so far would not stay open. Two other traps did catch rats but would not stay open for a second time. I found these traps more expensive and definitely defective.
Rats have been the bane of human civilization since recorded history. In fact, disease carrying rats have killed more humans than anything else, so when rats invade your living space, they need to be taken care of as quickly as possible.
The Raticator Electronic Rat Trap works extremely well and can safely be used indoors around children and pets. It’s our #1 pick for indoor rat and mice control, and the only trap that kills both mice and large rats.
Designed for indoor use or anywhere it’s not exposed to outdoor elements, the reusable Victor Electronic Rat Trap provides years of effective rat control—perfect for attics, garages, basements, and sheds. Live traps, on the other hand, always mean you’ll have to deal with a living rat. Many locales have passed laws that ban releasing a living rat, and if that’sthe case, you’ll have to kill it first before disposal. If that’s an uncomfortable proposition, skip this option
There are several different types of rat traps available on the market, the most effective being the electronic variety. An electronic trap detects a rat’s presence using its metal floor plates and delivers a high-voltage electric shock to the animal with the help of batteries. When a rat enters the trap (to find a non-lethal bait attractant) and steps on the plates, the rat completes the trap’s electric circuit, triggering an electric shock to the pest. The shock typically lasts anywhere from one to two minutes to prevent the animal’s heart from restarting. Some electronic traps offer remote operation designed to alert you when a kill has been made using a red or green light. When the rat has been eliminated, disposal is accomplished without having to touch or see the animal by sliding it into the trash.
Note: With any surface, select a cleaning method that will not discolor or damage the surface. If in doubt, test on a non-exposed area, or consult a professional cleaning service. For additional information on using glue traps, see Using Traps.
overall we’re pleased with the effectiveness and if we had used a little more forethought and tied a string to the trap this last time, the rat wouldn’t have bounced away under the insulation somewhere in our attic. also, we had it placed in the open in a ‘run’ and not as they describe in their videos which probably contributes to the suffering bit since the head isn’t being guillotined properly.
They never saw it coming… they came wave upon wave into the mouth of the beast. Eager to reach their last meal they crawl inside, but they find only death. The bodies pile higher and higher. The beast shows no mercy and spares no rodent. Its appetite is unending… consuming rodents and batteries without remorse.

Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the end of the arm bar under the yellow pedal. Please take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side and trip very easily.

Set up of these units are easy. Make sure the trap is disabled, and then place the bait on the metal pedal. It is important to note that using a q-tip or another device to spread the bait is important. When a human’s scent is on the trap; the rats will steer clear. If you want to ensure you get your catch every time, use another device to spread the peanut butter, hazelnut butter, or cheese. After the bait is loaded, you pull back the kill bar and attach it with your thumb. Use multiple traps in high rodent activity areas. High success rates have been reported with just one night of use. They can work great in a barn, kitchen, bathroom, garage or even an office building. It’s an inexpensive and easy way to deal with a rat issue.
Glue Rat Traps: Such traps (strips, boards or trays with natural or synthetic glue) are worse then Live Catch Rat Trap. Yes, they are cheap, you can buy it from ~$3, but they make suffer not only rats but you. Just imagine. Night. You are quietly sleeping in your cosy bed. And suddenly you wake up from squeaking. You’ve caught one mouse! But it won’t die quickly, it may last some hours or even days before it dies from dehydration and pain. Also, you must know that glue traps can hold young rats or mice when a rat can make free itself in an hour or two. Our verdict: Cheap but messy — from ~$3.

A lot of people are suspicious of whether home rat traps will really work or not. Anyway, the reality of the situation is that if you make them correctly. Also put them in the right areas of your home where there is high population of rodents. It is sometimes unclear why originally built rodent traps may not work to rid you of rats while homemade ones will work successfully, but it happens.
On the end of the planks that hang over the buckets, smear a bit of peanut butter to attract rats. Attach longer boards on the other end of the boxes for the rats to crawl up. Rodents are nice climbers and can get to a food source in any place.

I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.
We have a mouse running around our house and my husband is having a fit. I have been in medicine for over 25 years and have never seen the black plague or any other mouse, rat disease so I am going for the no kill solution. After all we are the ones that encroached on their space. Thanks for the ideas!!

A live rat trap can be a very effective tool for removing rats from your home or business, if the proper steps and precautions are taken. Baiting your rat trap is just one of these steps – learn more by reading How to Trap a Rat »
Cut the plastic bottle, or similar container, so that the hole is large enough for a rat to get inside. You want to use a tall plastic bottle so that the rat is unable to climb out. Make sure not to make it too big. Try to keep the slopped part at the top to prevent the rat from getting out. If you are still wary about the possibility of the rat getting out, then you can grease the top of the bottle to make it too slippery for the rat to escape.
TIP: How many traps should you use? That depends on the number of rats. If you suspect you have more than one or two, place several traps where you’ve seen signs of them. You can set as many as a dozen if you suspect you have a significant problem. Traps should be set 5 to 10 feet away from each other.
Cut a few small holes at the top and tie string to the plastic bottle. Then secure the string at the edge of an elevated surface, such as a table. Make sure that you use a strong enough string, or even a small rope, so that the weight of the rat will not break the string when it falls. This also applies to where you connect the string. You want the string to be securely connected to something heavy so that it will not break or move by the weight of the rat.
As Robyn says, peanut butter is great on rat and mouse traps as you don’t have to keep replacing it. I use it successfully whenever I have to set traps. My father used pumpkin seeds all the time and the rats loved them but it was hard to stop the seeds disappearing so he now uses peanut butter too.
