We got this and I was so tired of having been woken up every night for a month that it was hard to resist setting this trap up right away. We did put it out with the door open and food inside … full review
To dispose of a trapped rodent, wear disposable gloves. For easy removal, throw the trap and the dead rodent into the trash together. If you would prefer to reuse the trap, pull back the U-shaped bar to release the carcass into the trash.
Beware of quality issues. Some plastic rat traps are made from cheap brittle plastic and break easily. The Trapper T-Rex Rat Snap Trap is made in the USA and is of the highest quality. It’s the plastic snap trap most commonly used by Professional Pest Control companies. It’s my number #2 pick for trapping rats.
The best rat trap to catch rats depends entirely on where the trap is to be placed. Indoor rat trapping is much different than outdoor trapping. In order to determine which rat trap is best, knowing all of the different styles and methods helps. Never place an old wooden snap style rat trap where children or pets can get to it. By comparison, glue board style rat traps can’t be used outdoors. Outdoor trapping can be difficult, indoor trapping dangerous for children and pets. What do the pros do? Which rat trap is best?

Yes PB works here, I have to say (touch wood) that the rats finally moved on or were eradicated after their bush habitat was disturbed and caused months of probs. The mice still tiptoe through occasionally unfortunately the dog is no help, she’d rather be trying to kill the lizards (poor lizards). Nuggett looks like he’d be pretty fast when not lolling round on his beautiful bed!

In our opinion, we rank the Good Nature New Zealand as the best trap for them all. Firstly, its innovative-design allures the rats and kills them faster than the others. Secondly, it’s very simple and easy to use even without following the included instructions. Thirdly, the five-star rating and positive reviews are quite high. Finally, it has a high success rate compared to the rest. With the Good Nature rat trap, the rat menace will be over sooner-rather-than-later.
If you prefer the traditional style traps with a little more strength, then the Made2Catch Classic Metal Rat Trap may be what you’re looking for. These traps have an all metal design that is strong and will last a lifetime. Made from galvanized steel, they can be washed and reused over and over again. The paddle design is heavy duty and combined with the powerful spring action; there’s no rodent getting loose from its grip. These little mechanisms are very effective for keeping vermin under control. This specific unit is 4.5 ounces and 6.6 x 3.5 x 0.9 inches in size; it is especially for rats and other larger rodents. While it will get rats, it is not able to get squirrels or other creatures found in attic spaces.
Victor Rat Glue Board (24 traps) – provide effective pest control with no baiting or setting. The product is a great low-cost alternative to rat control products. The trap requires no setting – just position and catch.
The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is easy-to-use. Start by inserting four ‘C’ batteries into the battery compartment and replacing the cover. Then, using a Q-tip or toothpick (to avoid leaving your scent), add an enticing rat snack like peanut butter or dry pet food through the hole in the back wall of the trap. Place the rat trap where there are signs of rodent activity. Since rats typically travel along the edge of a room, the trap can also be placed lengthwise along the wall with the bait side closest to the wall. Flip the switch to ‘on’, and it’s good to go—a green light will blink once and a short buzzing sound will be heard to verify it’s working.

The Raticator Electronic Rat Trap works extremely well and can safely be used indoors around children and pets. It’s our #1 pick for indoor rat and mice control, and the only trap that kills both mice and large rats.
ok, so we live in a wooded area… recently one of the vacant lots next door was cleared and we had an influx of rats and mice in the attic and everywhere else. we don’t have food out, or pets, nor small children… so we went to war thinning their numbers. we’ve done the ‘pet/child safe’ trap, the standard wood-spring trap and now this one. this one is easy to set, reusable and does its job for the most part. i say that because with mice, they were dead on the snap. the rats… well they unfortunately suffer a bit because of their much larger size.
Saw poo in my attic. Took action: cut the trees away from the eaves, and put this up there with a schmear of store-brand peanut butter. A few days later, went up in my attic and took away the dead rat. Re-populated it and no new poo or rats have appeared. But Victor will be waiting, with delicious peanut butter, if they do.
A: Place traps perpendicular to the wall near signs of rodent activity (to find out where your area of high activity is please see Diagnose Your Home). For Rats, place traps out unset for a few days so they can become familiar with it.
I tried the live traps and the sticky traps and nothing! I finally just decided to get these old fashioned ones and….oh snap, I caught 2 mice the first night! I’m not sure why these get bad reviews, they couldn’t be any easier and they WORK!

Electronic Rat Traps: Bless the people who’ve invented such units! No blood. No squeaking. No mess! High voltage shock kills rats in seconds. The rat gets inside, completing the electric circuit with its body. There is no chance to escape. The electricity is running through its body for at least two minutes. There is no “resurrection” after impact. Easy to empty and clean. You haven’t to touch the corpses, just throw them into a trash can and clean up the tray using vinegar or dish detergent if it’s needed. Remember, rats don’t like the dead rat smell.
Glue Rat Traps: Such traps (strips, boards or trays with natural or synthetic glue) are worse then Live Catch Rat Trap. Yes, they are cheap, you can buy it from ~$3, but they make suffer not only rats but you. Just imagine. Night. You are quietly sleeping in your cosy bed. And suddenly you wake up from squeaking. You’ve caught one mouse! But it won’t die quickly, it may last some hours or even days before it dies from dehydration and pain. Also, you must know that glue traps can hold young rats or mice when a rat can make free itself in an hour or two. Our verdict: Cheap but messy — from ~$3.
Apply a small amount of peanut butter, bacon, dry pet food or nuts to the yellow pedal on the trap as shown. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick or another tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap.
