Apply a small amount of peanut butter, bacon, dry pet food or nuts to the yellow pedal on the trap as shown. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick or another tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap.

Even though no one truly knows the origin of the black rat, the earliest traces of human co-habitation come from Southeast Asia, although there are fossils of the black rat from prehistoric times in Europe. Needless to say, this symbiotic relationship between rats and humans happened early on, and the species has become so specialized, many scientists speculate that if the human population ever died out, black rats would go extinct too.
Also known as “glue boards” or “glue trays,” sticky glue traps are made of pieces of plastic, cardboard, or fiberboard coated with a strong adhesive designed to trap any animal who wanders across or lands on their surface. Glue traps are among the most inhumane devices on the market today.
Many companies—including CVS, Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, and Walgreens—have stopped selling glue traps, and many other businesses have stopped using the traps after hearing from concerned customers. Unfortunately, some companies continue to sell these vile devices.
A: If an emergency situation occurs, immediately call the poison control number located on the package (1-877-854-2494) and a specially trained individual will assist in your next steps. This telephone number is also listed on the packaging of TOMCAT baits.
Zap any rat that tries to entice your home by using the RZC001 Classic rat trap. Made from quality plastic and featuring an effective design, this unit is suitable for the home and can be placed indoors or outdoors. It has a decent size of 12 x 4 x .5 inches that makes it suitable for most rats.
I will as a matter of principle only recommend things on this site if I feel they’re good value. Usually I’ve tried them myself or know and trust someone else who has. In this case, I’ve been using this trap now for well over two years, with excellent results.
You can use victor brand traps, their performance is satisfying enough and they prove good value for money, as mentioned above. You can also test a rodent terminator trap which costs about $40 (not much cheaper than victor trap); its effectiveness is nearly the same. As for the expensive one, you can invest into Raticator Max. This trap uses infrared detection, i.e. it is only activated once the rodent is inside. You can also use live rat traps which are suitable for those who are not in favor of lethal methods.

When baiting for rats, the distance between placements should 15 to 30 feet apart depending on the foraging range. Heavy or severe infestations may require closer spacing. The amount of bait per placement should be determined by following the rodenticide label.
The device emits piercing oscillations in a range of frequencies that only rodents can hear. To the ears of a rat, the sounds are deafening. Another injustice solution is alkaseltzer (?sp) with an ultra fine coating of peanut butter on it. If you balance your platform just right, with a little resistance to tipping, the mouse can take a couple of good nibbles. Once they hit the water and take some big gulps, their bellies will expand to the point of fatality. This solution is the cheapest of all.

Many of us have dogs and cats that roam the yard — a rat trap won’t kill them, but it will hurt them pretty badly. What I do is put down a rat trap – baited with bacon (unlike previous poster, I’m not much for sewing, so I use a twist-tie) – and put it under a plastic milk crate with a couple cinder blocks sitting on top. The pets can’t get to the trap, but the rats can . . . pop goes the rodent! P.S. since I’m lazy, I put the trap set next to the trash can, so I don’t have to walk too far with a dead, stinkin’, flea infested rat.
Thought it would work since it’s labeled for rats but mice walk through it like it’s nothing. I’ve seen a whole body imprint and no mouse. Very disappointing…for the price I paid, it couldn’t even beat the old school mouse snap traps.

Rats tend to be cautious of new objects in their territory. Pre-bait your trap to get your rat used to it before you set it up for a catch. To pre-bait your trap, tie the trap doors open and place bait inside. Position your trap and wait about a week before setting it up for a catch.
Hey, I also use victor electronic rat trap. Why? Well, first of all, it is cheaper than hoont and others, which to my mind is the greatest advantage of this trap. Second, it’s effective (which is also another huge plus as with its help we’ve already trapped four rats). In general we are satisfied with this trap. Don’t hesitate to buy it.
The all-weather housing allows the trap to be used indoors and outdoors while the 2-chamber designs make cleaning easy. It delivers a heart-stopping shock that kills the rat or mice in a humane manner without blood, splatter or any other mess.
A: Each package is carefully labeled in accordance with strict guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Consult the package for specific usage information. Each one-ounce block of our Tomcat mouse killer baits will kill up to 12 mice*. Keep in mind that mice and rats reproduce quickly, so a problem left untreated can turn into a major problem. For larger issues, place bait stations in multiple locations to ensure you stop the problem before it grows.
Unfortunately (or fortunately for you), yes, they can. You have to choose for that purpose a trap with a large entrance, such as Victor Rat Trap. After the installation you follow the standard scheme: you place the bait (fruit, nuts or seeds) inside and you wait for the electric discharge to do the trick.
POWERFUL RODENT KILLERS ⚡ With over 30% more force than traditional traps, a hair trigger sensor, and jaws designed to kill without breaking the skin, these rodent killers are the ultimate protection against rats, gophers and other pests.

Glue traps are completely indiscriminate. PETA fields calls on a regular basis from distraught individuals who have discovered birds, lizards, snakes, bats, chipmunks, squirrels, and even their own animal companions hopelessly stuck to these sticky boards.
Top Tip : I bought this trap after I’d dealt with quite a bad rat infestation problem in my chicken run. It takes out one rat at a time, so if you have evidence of a large number of rats you need to get them under control first. See here for options and further advice.
I gave it 4 stars because occasionally the rat gets away. Sometimes the trap is sprung with no sign of a rat, and sometimes there’s a rat arm inside the trap. It makes me feel a little sad to think of the rats with crutches and prosthetic legs. I assume, in their world, it’s hard to get a job as a chef, lab rat, running in a rat race, or zodiac model with a missing front leg. Although, I hear the rats in this area have a strong union with excellent health care.
To be humane, live traps must be checked hourly since trapped animals can quickly die from stress, exposure, or dehydration. Also, rodents must be released within 100 yards of where they were found because animals who are relocated beyond their natural territory have trouble finding adequate food, water, and shelter and die as a result. When not in use, humane traps should be scrubbed with a mild bleach solution (to eliminate food smells), disabled, and securely stored—otherwise animals can become trapped unbeknownst to the user!
Interesting story: Our friend has told us about his trying to catch rats with the help of an ordinary trap. Once he saw how two rats were stealing the bait from the trap. One rat raised the trap’s cross-bar with the help of its teeth and returned it back after its rat-friend pulled out the bait. Rats are so cunning and adaptable that it is very hard to get rid of them. By thier ability to survive they can be compared only with cockroaches. That is why electronic traps which kill rats by electric shock immediately have become the best solution for many people. These units have a number of pros: safety, invisibility, and – which is more important – no carcasses, no smell.
If you plan on using plastic snap traps indoors, it is best to use them in a box with holes cut out on the sides or inside a rodent bait station. This is purely for safety reasons. Plastic rat traps are one of the safest and effective traps on the market. Safe enough in my opinion to use around older children and pets.
Update: reduced my rating from ***** (5) to ** (2) as the trap broke after the first use (kill). The plastic latch mechanism cracked, presumably when it caught the first rodent, and will no longer set. It was literally set 1x and used 1x (correctly per instructions) and broke.
Spread butter on the handle of a spoon and put it across the bucket. When the mouse climbs to get peanut butter, it will fall into the bucket with a spoon. If you do not like the idea that the mice would ruin cutlery, you can make a similar trap with any other materials, such as paper plate, tissue paper roll, etc or make bucket & spoon trap with water in the bucket.
Hoont™ Electronic Rodent Trap costs ~$58.99. The trap is supplied in two pieces which are supposed to be assembled. The idea of its functioning is the same as for any other trap: the rodents are electrocuted once they touch metal plates covering the entire floor of the trap. The trap also has an indicator which gives either a red flash (this happens when a rodent is inside, don’t touch anything if you don’t want to get electrocuted!) or a green one (when the rodent is finally dead). There is also a sound signal available.
