Glue traps never work to keep animals away long-term. The following evening, I entered the kitchen to find the same dirty and disheveled mouse stuck to a new glue trap. Despite my efforts, he wasn’t able to survive the stress of a second entrapment.
I have tried the electronic rat traps. They work good, once. The rats must smell something after that warns them to beware of a similar fate. Back to the old tried and proven Victor traps. Up to 14 and counting. With winter coming, the rats are moving in for a comfortable existence. Traps are getting expensive at the local hardware store. Makes sense to buy a bulk pack!
This trap has both a firm and sensitive setting. It will be easier to set on the firm setting. Keep in mind that the pedal is pre-baited. Adding bait is optional, but could affect the sensitivity. We caught chipmunks in our backyard with the department store cages. I decided to use the big corded ultrasound device, that my dad loves having in the basement for bugs, on a chipmunk in a cage. On all 10 supposed frequencies this God-mode device has, like the loud one for squirrels and down to the anti-bedbug, the chipmunk didn’t react one bit!

On the end of the planks that hang over the buckets, smear a bit of peanut butter to attract rats. Attach longer boards on the other end of the boxes for the rats to crawl up. Rodents are nice climbers and can get to a food source in any place.
Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.

use about a half gallon of old (smelly) cooking oil in a large open glass container ( a vase or cookie jar ). The oil should be about two – three inches from the top. Secure a timber ramp from the ground to the top of the glass container. The rats will fall in but will not get out due to the slippery oil and glass sides. GUARANTEED to work and to go on working…..
Not do be out done many homeowners have sought to one up Atkinson and start their own 112 year streak of mouse trap dominance. Here are a few of the ideas and you can decide if they’re up to the challenge. Click on the pictures to enlarge and leave a comment as to which one you like or tell us of one of your own.
• bait type matters!: we first tried peanut butter with no results on the rats, but it resulted in some very unfortunate collateral damage to other rodents… so, we switched to raw bacon, and, while the other rodents were disinterested, the rats can not resist… and, snap!
A: Electronic mouse traps are the quickest and easiest way to catch mice. They are easy to use, with no setting or glue required. Well we’ve come along way in mouse traps but as you can see sometimes simpler is better. I’m not sure if any of these will usurp old Henry’s contraption but when you have a mouse infestation who cares, as long as you get your mouse. Before you get to cocky however, consider that the mouse has also had 112 years to study the problem and he hasn’t been sitting idle. Almost all of my mouse calls come after the do it yourself bug man has failed to round up his furry friend and I marvel just how a mouse can escape some of the gauntlets I see. Maybe while we’ve kept to the simple time tested methods the nation of mice have spread the word and gone high tech. My advice? Always call the expert!

These things work on mice, small rats, snakes and roaches! Just remember they do not kill the animals. A dear friend used these, caught a mouse and put the whole thing in the garbage. The next day she caught the same mouse in a different trap. Please kill the animal before you discard the trap. another friend put one under her couch. Later she moved the couch to clean and suddenly STOOD on the couch screaming for her husband. The trap caught a snake. Finally, be aware that your curious pets will find any traps left where they can see them, smell them, or in general, just get stuck on them. Doxies have long noses, longer tongues and will bring the trap to you. No, I don’t know how to clean the glue off your pet.
My wife and I have a vegetable garden in our yard (summer 2013). We’ve been harvesting several types of peppers and tomatoes, as well as other veg, all summer long. Life is good – our garden is exploding. We have an abundance of plants producing an abundance of food. We’re able to share with neighbors and friends, eat our fill and can/pickle/preserve the rest — all home grown, pesticide free vegetables. Then, to our dismay, we noticed some of the Chablis peppers had been decimated by a critter. I figured – we had a good run but the party was over and the neighborhood chipmunks and/or squirrels finally found our food oasis and would be frequenting the smorgasbord buffet for the rest of the season. I’ve seen chipmunks in the yard and found their holes in various places. I even saw a squirrel eyeballing the garden one afternoon; however, it walked off when I started eyeballing it. So, our abundant produce would have to be shared with the local wildlife – and life goes on. Then, it all changed, the sunshine and rainbows in Happy Town turned to darkness and screams of terror as we learned … we had a rat problem.

I have bought various ultrasonic pest repellents. They tend to work for a short time only. For really great results we bought an electronic mouse trap. The trap is as easy as throwing a piece of chocolate digestive into the tunnel like structure. You then switch the device on and wait. We caught our first mouse within 10 minutes and were surprised to catch 21 others over the next week. It’s a little expensive, but, really does the job for those of you who need an effective and non-messy way to get rid of Mice or Rats. Here’s a link to it on Amazon http://amzn.to/2lfCnGU
Looking for cheap rat traps? Victor® rat glue traps offer an effective method of rodent control at a competitive price, without the time-consuming processes of setting or baiting. Rather, glue traps have a sticky surface which is pre-baited to attract rats, insects, and other pests. The glue surface stops pests in their tracks upon contact and prevents them from escaping back to their hiding spaces. Simply place the traps along walls where there are signs of high rodent activity. For your convenience, rat glue traps are disposable to allow for quick cleanup after every catch.
We live in a split-level single family house. We saw some rat droppings in the upper floor. We kais these glue traps in the upper and lower floor. The next day a rat was stuck at the lower floor glue tray. We threw the tray and put in another one. We did not catch any more rats and saw no more droppings. These glue trays are easy to set up and the price is very reasonable. It is wide and can easily be separated in two trays. I am a happy satisfied customer.
A similar trap I have seen and read about, that said that it was for the big ones was a barrel trap. It was basically the same thing, except a barrel (like a 55 gallon drum) with a tarp or plastic tied tightly over it, with an x cut in the middle. The bait was then put in the middle (they used corn I believe). When the rat walked out over it, it would collapse. The guy I learned this from used it to catch big field rats for bait for his trapline. Don’t know if it would work, but it sounds like it would catch big ones better than that one. I guess it would be akin to trying to trap a coyote in a rabbit trap. Even if the trap works, if the animal is too big, it won’t work.
I prefer it to snap traps because of the lack of blood and gore – the body is very easily disposed of without leaving a mess behind which is a potential hazard to chickens, pets, wildlife or children.
There’s a bug spray thats available at kmart. Spray around the outside of house. Wont hurt your pets, dogs , cats ,fish, lizards, Then spray at base boards on inside of house. NO spiders , bugs, When the bugs come out there a pain. those mosquito plants work. And I used Bell &Howell Pest Repellers as far as I could tell they were working with the mice. Bugs come out from April to October. But I used Decon for my mice. Put pest Repellers in every room of house & basement. Use inside & outside spray as needed.
Set up four traps with dabs of peanut butter. Mice have licked them clean without setting off traps. I pick up the traps and they go off. These mice are outsmarting me. They’re probably staring at me and laughing: “Ya right!”. Victor should hire them for their Research and Developing department or maybe CEO.
Rats are horrible, dirty rodents that can be found in and outside the house. For survival, rats require shelter, water, and enough food. And if your home provides these three things, it is a tough task to get rid of them. Rats as well as their smaller relatives, mice, are attracted to garbage, pet food, compost bins or food droppings. In addition, they carry more than 20 diseases, and can be really dangerous. Though you keep your home clean, these furry interlopers always find a way to enter. Everyone worries about how to get rid of rats when they find them in their kitchen, yard, shed or house. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our home remedies for rats will keep them away from the house and out of sight.
Drive a stick through the opposite ends of the water bottle (Or whatever object you chose to use. It should be cylindrical and easy to roll.) Drill holes in two sides of the bucket near the top where you can slide the hanger through. Fill the bucket with water. (optional) Set up your ramps, and then bait the rolling mechanism. You’ll have rats climbing up to get to the delicious bait only to be dropped to the bottom of the bucket!
Some rats can be trap shy. They are shy of new objects and placing unset traps in a new location for a few days will increase the catch. Camouflaging the trap in a shallow pan of grain or sawdust could hide it. Place the bait in a few small placements on the top surface without setting the trap. When the rats start taking the bait, set the trap, leaving only one bait placement in the set trap. Rat traps should not be relocated once a good location is found as this will set up a new obect reaction. Mice are naturally curious so frequent trap relocations will attract their interest.
Bell and Howell pestrepellers 10 pack on HSN DO NOT WORK .They do not remove bugs already in the home. I called the company itself who suggested I open a window so moths, flys , and other flying insects can fly out!!!!!! What about what flies in at that time?? I was very disapointed in the B & H reply. They promised to call back and I never heard from them again. I had to use poisonous sprays to take care of the problem myself.as the moth problem was spreading all over the house and to adjoining apartments. Save your investment . They don’t work at all.
Top Tip : I bought this trap after I’d dealt with quite a bad rat infestation problem in my chicken run. It takes out one rat at a time, so if you have evidence of a large number of rats you need to get them under control first. See here for options and further advice.
Don’t mean to be critical – I just find that drowning an animal is crueland inhumane. I guess it reminds me of when I almost drown in a lake, as a child. Fortunately, my Dad was paying attention, jumped off the pier, which I fell off of and saved me from a sure death.
