If you don’t think it’s appropriate to drop the tube into a garbage pail several feet below the upper-story landing, you could affix the whole tube with a piece of string to the landing itself. That way, instead of dropping down into the garbage pail when the mouse triggered the trap, the tube would drop away and dangle harmlessly off the ledge until you recovered it.

I set this glue trap for this mouse cause it was destroying my stuff every night. It was successfull but was bad as it when the mouse gets stuck to the trap it cant escape and it dies from hunger, and weakness from trying continuously from freeing itself and it dies after 4-5 days of struggle. This stuff is inhumane I felt so bad for the poor little thing that i freed it, which was the hardest thing to do, and left in and open field.
Designed for indoor use or anywhere it’s not exposed to outdoor elements, the reusable Victor Electronic Rat Trap provides years of effective rat control—perfect for attics, garages, basements, and sheds. The trap does not use any poisons or chemicals, but as with any electronic device, it should be used with caution around children and pets.
I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.
After being driven to distraction by the transformer noise from electronic devices such as tv’s, computer monitors, fluorescent lights and anti pest devices my parents sought out my GP, and I was initially diagnosed with tinnitus. However, knowing it was the devices I was hearing, as unplugging them stopped the noise, my parents paid for a private hearing tests which proved I was able to hear frequencies beyond the supposed 20,000 Hz barrier.
Seriously….most insects cannot hear. Not at all….Crickets, katydids, cicadas and mosquitoes can hear sound. A few moths and flying mantids can also hear the high-pitched sounds bats make and avoid the bat, which is pretty cool! Beyond that, however, most insects are deaf, such as roaches, beetles, ants, dragonflies, etc. How does anyone actually believe these claims?
If you find yourself in this situation and are in need of some mass exporting (of course, I’m talking about the mice here, not your extended family members), here are a few simple DIY mouse traps that you can make out of several items that you probably already have around the house.
I am terrified of mice, i bought one for each room and my hallway coming into my apt.,,never had mice,,my upstair neighbor was rampet with mice i told her about the U LTRASONIC PEST REPELLENT ,she got a package and put one in each room and hall way,,, in a few days ,,no more mice,, i have used them for years and yes they do work i change to new ones about every three years…everyone in my building has them in their apartments ,, so we’re all protected…
Unfortunately, I never knew just how inhumane glue traps are until I actually used one. Now, I know that there are many reasons never to use glue traps in your home. Not only do they cause slow and agonizing deaths for the animals they trap, they can also be dangerous to humans and animal companions.
– it is very very rare for a rat to beat it… I’ve been using mine 4 years, caught about 75 rats, and only one small female was able to freak out enough to get away… she basically squirmed like crazy, got lucky and lurched backwards out of the trap.
But it doesnt end there. They are all over my yard as well and destroying my garden. I didn’t want to resort to something as extreme and cruel as this, but I spend months and months on my vegetable gardens and the only one’s benefitting and eating the delicious veggies are these little f&^rs.
But you’d better know that sticky rodent traps are inhumane, because trapped animals usually suffer and cry for many hours before death from dehydration or stress. So we suggest you check your glue traps very often or use other traps.
The answer? Put a trap (any trap, not just an electric one) close to a wall or boundary fence where you know or suspect the rodents are running. Make sure the opening of the trap is closest to the wall.
IT WORKS you have to know how to work it, the first night I just placed the trap in a corner and they moved it, the next day I put the trap under the leg of a small table so they couldn’t move it then added a piece of cookie topped with PEANUT BUTTER in the center as shown in the picture and they were caught happy hunting!
An electric rat trap is a simple device that electrocutes rodents, effectively killing them immediately. A homemade rat trap that is electrified can be used only indoors, out of the reach of children and pets.

The Tomcat Glue Traps with Eugenol for Enhanced Stickiness (Rat Size) are the pesticide-free, non-toxic way to effectively control rats. Bait the tube. Place a piece of cheese, candy, or bread in the far end of the tube. Ensure it is of sufficient mass to attract a mouse but not so heavy that it will significantly alter the weight of the tube. Do not choose foods which are sticky or gummy; they can be hard to get all the way down the tube.
Recognize behavioral differences between rodents. Aside from favoring certain types of bait, rats and mice have very different temperaments that lead to important behavioral differences. Rats are naturally cautious, while mice tend to be curious. Be aware of seasonal behaviors too. Trap squirrels in late spring and early winter in particular, as this can prevent breeding.
I bought four of the plugin ones off Amazon. They specify the range they work and we get mice in our basement. I plugged them all in downstairs except one I put in my garage. Surprisingly they did work, even on spiders. This was two years ago I think, but a few months ago they stopped working. They may of stopped working sooner because a year ago two stray cats made a home of my garage and the deal was they can stay and I will feed them if they catch mice lol. Which they do lol.
Unfortunately, after several years of the single life, he, somehow attracted a female rat, that was released by someone or escaped captivity. Now, I have 3 babies running around my garage, as if they are at the park. So, I have to capture them and their mother and take them to another home. Hopefully, I can find someone to adopt them. If not, I have a good, safe location to release them in. I may take Kar-Kat too, because, rats are family oriented and I don’t think he would be happy without his family. Once again, my skills, from my days in Special Forces, will come in handy, as I construct a trap, that will capture all of them.
Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.
This type of trap is made using a special adhesive applied to the board, cardboard or plastic tray. Glue is applied to the center of the trap: it often has a flavor pleasant to the rats. It’s not recommended to put traps outside because of natural conditions (humidity, dust), which quickly bring glue into disrepair. Catching rats on such sticky tape is very convenient.
The Stick-Em Elephant Size Rat and Mouse Peanut The Stick-Em Elephant Size Rat and Mouse Peanut Butter Scented Glue Trap features an adhesive specifically developed to remain effective in a variety of temperatures including cold temperatures where other brands stiffen and stores under small enclosures and hard to reach areas to attract and catch larger rats and mice. … More + Product Details Close
Device Location: The sound waves from ultrasonic pest control devices are short range and very weak, so they’re easily blocked by furniture, walls, and corners. To test out the location of your device, place a lamp next to the device, turn off all the other lights, and note the beams and shadows from the lamp. The repellent sound waves will pretty much only be active where the light reaches.
This is a very short sharp noise generally uttered by rats being groomed or manhandled by another rat or stroked / scratched by a human. Generally it is a sign of very mild protest, the longer the sound the more they are protesting. Sometimes rats will just make this noise for no discernible reason, they may appear very submissive, happy or just going about their daily business and still be piping away. Some rats seem to just squeak in passing, they happily wander around squeaking when touched or handled but not objecting, in fact often enjoying it. This is normally a learned behaviour and starts when the rat is young as they link piping with good sensations rather than bad. The overall body language and amount of tension in the body of the rat should indicate if this is protest pip’ing or just general ‘chatty’ behaviour.

Seal off wherever the rodents are entering your home. One of the most important and effective ways of controlling unwanted rodents is blocking off their entrance point. This will prevent more rodents from getting into your home.
After inspecting the rat infested areas, place the rat glue boards in those areas. Place the glue traps directly in their runways. Rats usually travel along baseboards and walls, since they use the walls for guidance. Place glue traps where there has been rodent activity.
After reading many interesting comments, thought I should share my experience. I have used two bigger ultrasonic pest repellent units (Black & Decker EP1100-A) for last ten plus years for rodents and similar larger pests – One in backyard and one in garage; and didn’t have a single rodent or similar pest anywhere near the house. I don’t have anything to prove the cause and effect relationship, but we do think it works, at least for larger pests. We also have a few smaller pluggable units inside house and never had a single cockroach in the house.
Rats are smart. I always use surgical gloves when handling the traps and never touch whatever bait I am using, whether it be cheese, peanut butter or rotten fruit. Rats have an excellent sense of smell and will avoid human scent whenever something else is available. So until someone truly develops a better rat trap, stay with the old standard. Just be careful.
These are certainly sticky enough. However, some mice will learn to avoid them or other traps. Then I will use a bunch of these to build a physical barrier so that mice can’t go where they want to without stepping on one.

It is important to maintain the appearance that the papered-over coffee can is capable of supporting the mouse when it walks across it. Instead of cutting a solid “X”, you could try poking small, closely-spaced holes in an “X” shape across the surface of the paper.

The use of any trap, including poison bait traps, is a temporary measure at best. Rats killed are very quickly replaced by others. Unless preventative measures are taken the rat infestation problem will be on-going and endless.
Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.
