Claiming it controlled cockroaches, my mother used to seed the underside of the house with ‘daddy long-legs’ from our previous house (we were military and moved a lot, often into less than desirable housing). Other than Alabama… she was right. I’ve tolerated a lot of spiderwebs over the years and only ever had cockroaches in apartments that were routinely sprayed. If these ultrasonics drive away spiders as some claim…watch out.
Use a strong disinfectant to clean areas where you’ve seen grimy trails and mouse poop, especially around their entry points, so that new mice don’t find their way in after you’ve trapped those already in your home. Also thoroughly clean up and disinfect anyplace you see mice droppings, as their location also communicates to other mice.
• Use peanut butter on the back of the wall like they say to. I have read several replies to reviews by the manufacturer that putting items in the bottom can mess up the sensor and create a false shock..I had put a bit of a nut / dried fruit / chocolate chip mixture the first night and the next day it definitely seemed something successfully walked in there and wasnt killed (mud tracks)
We had field mice come in, bought a plug in repellant, we put poison down and got rid of them. We kept the repellant plugged in since this was 3years ago. Now, for the past few evenings we have heard noise in the loft. Thinking it could be a squirrel we went and had a look. Going by droppings could be a rat. No damage so far so put poison in, but wondering the plug in could be working. Also, it works through the electrics in your home. Hopefully sonic noise driving it crazy.
Place rubber bands around the skewers. Rubber bands about one centimeter in diameter are ideal. If you have trouble finding a band that small, try using some elastic hair ties. With the hinge on the upper side of the bottle, loop one band around the two skewers on the left side of the bottle and another band around the skewers on the right side of the bottle.
Cage traps are metal or wire boxes containing bait (non-poisonous) to entice the normally cautious rodent. A food ball is placed inside the trap; removing or eating the food triggers a mechanism that snaps the entry gate closed, confining the rodent without injury. Cage traps must be monitored closely—a trapped rat will die of stress and dehydration if not taken outside and released promptly.
There’s no limit as to what you can use to catch rats. Maybe you’ve got mason jars leftover from projects or gifts. Good news! Even these can be converted into live-rat traps. A single catch-and-release method, but hey? It works.
I’ve never had to deal with rats before but recently I heard the telltale sign of scratching and gnawing in the middle of the night. After going up to the attic access hole I noticed fresh rat poop. After some research I ordered these traps for their cost effectiveness, and more importantly, for their tried and true killing power.
I haven’t used them yet but I bought 5 of them for 2 dollars n some change each off eBay ….so I spent 11 dollars n change all together for 5 of them…..I got a new apartment. .the neighbor has a infestation of roaches..so there where roaches..and spiders..omg.. I used insect fogger in each room …a boric acid ..and roach gel in the corners and crevasses…I haven’t moved in yet ..even though I’ve only seen 1 roach everytime I visit…so I just hope these ultrasonic things work..and keep everything out ..I have a 1 year old..we can’t live in there until every insect is out
The pungent smell of pepper makes it hard for the rats to breathe and threatens their survival. Simply sprinkle some crushed pepper around the corners and the holes where they reside. You will notice positive results. Repeat the process if necessary.
Expanded Trigger Plate The Easy Set® Mouse Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as mice scamper across the floor.
The concept here is that the larger end of the plate, the side without the bait on it, is being held by the buckets edge, to give the mouse support enough to walk onto the plate and make it’s way to the bait.
Set out unset rat traps can be buried in grain, sawdust, or similar materials within an empty cardboard box or pie pan. Place the rat bait in small pieces near it and above it with the hidden trap below. Once the rats start taking the bait, set the traps. This set up will acclimate the rats to the traps, once adapted, set enough traps to kill a large percentage of the population before the rodents become ” trap shy” This method is called mass trapping, catching them at a higher rate than they can repopulate and become shy of the trap.
Bait the trap with a high-protein substance, such as peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread. Place the bait on the metal bait pedal using a Q-Tip, toothpick or another tool to mask your human scent.
I know this is an old post, but you actually want the stairway to heaven in line with the wire. The vermin will attempt to high wire in an effort to get to the bait. If it doesn’t make it to the can, it loses its balance and will try to gain foot on the can. Then it’s bye bye Ratzilla!
I moved into my newly built home one year ago, I had some ants last year and lots of those black long bugs with the pinchers on the tail and a couple other types of bugs, had a mouse the first night I slept here. I bought a six pack of repellers at Costco and have them all plugged in one in garage and four of them in second floor.
As you know, rats live in groups and prefer to live next to people to find food and a safe home, especially in highly populated areas. Rats can eat your food, lead to severe injury, and transmit diseases. Let’s talk how you can make a rat trap.
After reading several reviews and deciding against the collateral damage that glue traps and poison could cause, as well as watching several videos on how to make various bucket traps, I decided the classic Victor M326 Professional Rat Trap would best suit my needs. What can one say … it’s an oldie but a goodie. I placed the order from Amazon and waited for Prime delivery. In the interim I watched and plotted. I watched that bold lil’ rat scurry from the outskirts of the yard across the center of the lawn, again. It cruised under my car, paused and checked to see the coast was clear, and then it gleefully jumped into the garden. No, I’m not crazy, the movement with which the rat entered the garden was gleeful, almost like it was prancing. It was out for a night on the town at our expense. I could do nothing but wait for the traps; however, el raton made one critical mistake – now I confirmed its entry point to the garden and knew it’s approximate feeding time, it was the second evening in a row it entered the garden at the same spot and same time out cruising for grub. I couldn’t wait to get that rat bastard.
DoMyOwnPestControl had the best price on the Internet that I could find for these Victor wooden rat traps. And as the advertising at the top of their web page says, “Fast, Free shipping”. Fantastic! A big plus to me. Thought these wooden Victor’s were lost to me forever. Not so – thanks to your great service.
For mice, choose a trap that can hold multiple mice with a rotating trap door. Victor makes several different models that are smaller and designed to catch multiple mice in this way. Since they can catch multiple mice (sometimes as many as a dozen!) without being emptied, they also require less maintenance.
This stuff is a little more robust as indicated by my first rat victim on the first night. However; I found the glue trap 15 feet from the trap location upside down with no rat attached. I saw the signs of the rat hair in the glue, but, it could not hold him down. My extermination company says the rats urinate themselves free from glue traps.
DESCRIPTION:Victor Rat traps work very well and kill rats instantly. They are strong and durable enough to kill even the largest rats with ease. Victor Rat snap traps work best when baited with sticky bait (i.e. peanut butter) to ensure that the rat will disturb the trigger mechanism even if the rat touches the bait only lightly. 1 case = 12 traps.
I purchased some from Wal-Mart yesterday. A 3 pack. One in the kitchen, my daughter’s room and my room. Sitting here on the bed and see one run right pass the one plugged into my daughter’s wall…think I’m going to go get my money back!!! I will figure out another way!
Lay the bottle on its side with the hinge on the table. With a black marker, mark two points on the side of the bottle approximately one centimeter from the place where it has been cut, one on the left side of the cut and one on the right side of the cut. The marks should be located half a centimeter from the top edge of the bottle. Rotate the bottle 180 degrees along its horizontal axis and place symmetrical marks on the other side.
Most trapping efforts fail because too few mouse traps or rat traps are used. You’ll probably need more traps then you think. Set enough Victor traps to kill most of the population before the rodents begin to shy away from the traps. We recommend placing the traps every 2-3 feet along a wall, with the trap placed perpindicular to the wall. Rodents enter a home through holes the size of a dime and run along walls, not over open spaces.
additionally, we had placed Peppermint Oil (which we still use to keep them at bay) in all the areas that were absolutely off-limits to rats and that was immediately effective. they stayed clear of areas where we distributed the Oil and began moving only in distant areas of the property, where we had the traps (and bait boxes) …so 2 👍 to Peppermint Oil; Pure Body Naturals Undiluted Essential Peppermint Oil, 4 fl. oz. OR Radha Beauty Peppermint Essential Oil 4 oz – 100% Pure & Natural Mentha Peperita Therapeutic Grade
At last, the homemade rat trap from bottle can be placed in an infested area. In addition, the caught rat won’t be able to escape once it comes in because the toothpick prevents the barbwire door from swinging outward.
We caught chipmunks in our backyard with the department store cages. I decided to use the big corded ultrasound device, that my dad loves having in the basement for bugs, on a chipmunk in a cage. On all 10 supposed frequencies this God-mode device has, like the loud one for squirrels and down to the anti-bedbug, the chipmunk didn’t react one bit!
I use these to discourage our cat from getting into areas she shouldn’t be. Don’t worry, she doesn’t get stuck to it. Once they see that it’s sticky they avoid it completely. Much cheaper than alternate methods. Glue is non toxic so it won’t hurt your furry friends, just keeps them out of places they shouldn’t be.
2. I wonder how many rats have died to ensure that your extended-release medications won’t kill you, or that your wife’s (or your) cosmetics won’t hurt you. It makes me want to feel sorry for these wonderful creatures. We owe them a lot.
3. If it weren’t for rats, millions of humans would not have died over our history, so “population control” has certainly been forwarded by their natural ways. Kudos to them or my traffic problems would be even worse than they already are.

Once the wire is through both ends, make sure the wire extends a few inches past the bucket on both edges. With the threaded can centered over the bucket, crimp the wire at both ends of the can. This will keep the can sliding to the edge of the bucket which would defeat the trap.
Known for the most innovative rodent control products on the market, Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the only rat trap with a patented 3-plate design to prevent escapes. Easy to use, the trap is simply baited, placed against the wall and turned on. The trap uses advanced smart circuit technology to sense when a rodent enters the units. Once the rodent is inside, the system delivers a humane, high-voltage shock to effectively kill the rat or mouse in seconds. A green indicator light illuminates when a rat has been exterminated and is ready for removal. Rodents can then be dumped directly into the trash for no-touch, no-view mouse control. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts after an electrical shock, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap applies shock for 2 minutes ensuring high kill rates. Additionally, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the only trap that automatically resets after an irregular escape. Safe for use anywhere in the home, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap is ideal for attics, garages, basements, sheds, and kitchens. A lifetime investment, the Electronic Rat Trap is easy to clean and can be reused indefinitely. For effective rat control, one set of 4 ‘C’ batteries will eliminate up to 50 rats, and a red light indicates when batteries need replacing.
On the farm we had many mice in our chicken cage after the chicken food and the mice were a big problem due to excreting in the chicken food as well as bringing in the various snakes to feast on the abundance of mice. (cobras, puff adders, boomslang).
This is a particularly loud and drawn out squeak, a sign of fear and extreme protest. It is rare outside of introductions and even in introductions it does not occur in the majority of cases. Generally it is uttered by a rat who does not know what to do in that situation and is completely lost in its fear and sees no way out of the situation. It is most often found in young rats who have not developed any ratty social skills, an older rat more sure of its self physically is likely to attack. The rat screaming will often stand on hind legs in the boxing position but rather than facing forward will be cowering backwards into a nearby wall.
