Kness Ketch-all Multiple Catch Rat Trap –  The ‘Worlds Best Mousetrap”, the Kness Ketch-all Multiple Catch Trap captures mice and smaller rats. It is not designed to capture large rats.  The story behind this trap is that Mr. Kness developed it for his child’s school in the early 1920’s.  The school had a mouse problem that they could not control. Mr. Kness, being an engineer, developed the world’s first repeating mouse trap. As the story goes, it eliminated the mice and Kness Manufacturing was born.

Since rats prefer enclosed, safe locations, use Protecta Bait Stations with the T-Rex Snap Traps. These stations will shelter the rat; encouraging it to enter and protect non-targeted animals and children from the harm of the snap trap. The Victor Snap Traps are fine traps, but its height will not fit into bait stations. If this is the case, you can get a cardboard box, cut holes in it and place it over the Victor Snap Trap. This method is not tampered resistant, however.

As for the expensive one, you can invest into Raticator Max. This trap uses infrared detection, i.e. it is only activated once the rodent is inside. Human Hair – Yeah, I’ve heard of people swearing by this. These people are bordering on witchcraft for the mentally handicapped. I think the theory here is that rats aren’t supposed to like the smell of humans. First of all, your house already smells like humans. Second of all, RATS LOVE HUMANS. That’s how they live and thrive! They are the #1 commensal animal, designed to live in urban areas with humans! Human hair smells like home to a rat.
Uh-huh, been there, done that. It looks like the problem is the dirt inside the trap. If it is buzzing, then something leads to a short circuit between the metal electrode plates in the rear of the device. In most cases, you’ll find traces of food bait, the rodent’s fur or organic liquids there. Take out the batteries, dry the inside of the trap with a wet cloth or a paper towel, let it dry and try to turn on the device again (remember to wear rubber gloves). Make sure you monitor the cleanliness of your “rat killer” further on.
To increase your odds of catching the critters, place traps inside closets, as well as under any furniture — like sofas, chairs or even cabinets — sitting along the walls. A clever way to lure rats into traps is to cut a hole on each side of a shoebox and place it along a suspected rat path with a baited trap inside. The box piques the rats curiosity on what’s inside — and once they go in, they won’t be coming back out.

Mouse Baiting Traps: These are containers that hold specially developed rat bait that act as a slow poison. Once the rat has ingested the bait, it is able to slip out and escape from the “trap”. Peanut butter is among the most highly recommended rat baits to use because it attracts the animal and is incredibly simple. You most likely already have peanut butter in your home and when you spread it on a trap, it will stay in place. Since the rat can’t just pick it up and take the bait with them, they are more likely to be trapped. While peanut butter is a popular choice, you can also use whole nuts, bacon, berries, gumdrops, or dried fruit. Generally speaking, roof rats will prefer foods that are plant based while Norway rats will prefer items with a lot of sugar, protein, and fat. Either species likes peanut butter and dried fruit.
