Customer Rat Email: I just came across your website and wanted your input on how i should handle my situation. I am 99.99% confident that i have rats in my house, specifically above my ceiling in the basement. They usually only come in during the winter months, when it gets cold. i can hear them scurrying about and occasionally fighting above me. and for the first time last winter they had some babies in the wall. i could hear them squeaking. I read your tips for eliminating the pests and agree with you 100%. My problem is that i believe that the rats are entering under our back porch. we had built a solidly built wooden porch(right next to our garbage area) over the existing concrete and brick staircase, and now there is no way to get under the porch and find out where they are coming in from, (at least i cant fit under the porch). i have been using the poisons and inevitably they die in the ceiling with a stench that is pretty bad (but i run the dehumidifier to remove all moisture from the area so that the bacteria on the carcass cant survive), but what always happens is that the following spring, flies come in lay their eggs on the carcass, and i have about 100 flies in the basement. My question is what is the next best method to find the entry point? Or is there some recipe for a natural rat repellent that I can use? i was thinking about tearing down the ceilings along the walls that are closest to the back porch , but am not looking fwd to it. Also i dont know if im freaking out or imagining things but i have noticed some spotty brown staining on the ceiling in my room, i dont know if this could be from their urine, or if its from the grease they are tracking in? Thanks for listening, Justin
It has over 2700 customer’s reviews on Amazon.com that includes a very helpful ones for the following users of it. First, don’t overbait thе trap because a big dose of a peanut butter or other stuff can lead to the trap’ zapping the bait and de-activates then. Also, users think it’s better to use sun flower seed butter or dog food than a peanut butter. Rodents’ tastes differ as humans.
Call me right away if you have an animal problem.  I can do an inspection for you, remove the problem animal from your property, and make some recommendations for how to prevent future problems by proper containment of food sources and elimination of access points.  I know rats inside and out; they are such a common problem and can ruin your home or business property and your health.  It is important to act quickly.  Your local animal control does not provide these kinds of services.
Snap Mouse Traps: In use for over a 100 years, these are simple spring-loaded devices that have a baiting-platter and “kill device”, which is either a spring-released kill bar or a serrated “kill jaw” which powerfully snaps back on the rodent that catches and kills it. It’s an incredibly powerful product, and it’s quite efficient in catching these little pests.
For all you skeptics, don’t worry this works! Last week found a rat in my back porch, tried to chase it out of the building but hid behind the stairs. I tried to trap it and even leave the back door open, hoping it would leave. Then one day it was back upstairs in my back porch, chased it down the the stairs and even made barricades hoping it would leave the building, to no resolution. Then I decided to order this product and research the reviews, what’s the worst that can happen, lose $10? One week later I got the product, read the instructions, put some peanut butter on the bait cup, set the trap overnight and went to bed. The next day after coming from work, I opened the basement door to find the rat CAPTURED and DEAD!. This product is the real deal. See for yourself! Not sure if I would reuse the trap as some would after this picture.
I just purchased the electronic pest repeller and i only saw one roach so far and I just put them in two days ago. But my daughter says she can hear it, it said on the box that us humans cant hear it. So why is she hearing it?
__You’re better off with the old style. Put your bait, preferably peanut butter (PB), on the underside of the bait tab, need very little maybe 1/8 thimble. Put a small amount of PB next to the trap as an enticement. Said rodent has to turn it’s head in an awkward position to get the bait and nearly 100% of the time will get caught because it’s out of position for a quick get-away.
Are you using rat traps or mouse traps? Make sure they are rat traps. In addition use more traps and different types of traps e.g. glue traps. Use different bait, in some traps use food and others nesting material.
If you reach a level of desperation like I did, I can tell you that this is worth the money and having faith. I thought it was buggy and was planning to return, esp. with mixed reviews and no luck the first night… then, well, look at the photo!!! 😀
Here’s all the proof you need to know that you CAN handle a rat problem on a low budget. Multi-catch to single-catch—from rats, to mice, or even other rodents, you can create the perfect trap using items that you probably already have on hand.
Viktor Rat trap – original wood-based snap trap that provides instant rat control. Due to its super quality and effectiveness, the trap has become top one selling trap in the world. Viktor trap should be placed where rats travel.
On the end of the planks that hang over the buckets, smear a bit of peanut butter to attract rats. Attach longer boards on the other end of the boxes for the rats to crawl up. Rodents are nice climbers and can get to a food source in any place.
There are several different types of rat traps available on the market, the most effective being the electronic variety. An electronic trap detects a rat’s presence using its metal floor plates and delivers a high-voltage electric shock to the animal with the help of batteries. When a rat enters the trap (to find a non-lethal bait attractant) and steps on the plates, the rat completes the trap’s electric circuit, triggering an electric shock to the pest. The shock typically lasts anywhere from one to two minutes to prevent the animal’s heart from restarting. Some electronic traps offer remote operation designed to alert you when a kill has been made using a red or green light. When the rat has been eliminated, disposal is accomplished without having to touch or see the animal by sliding it into the trash.
Be patient because rats are neophobic. They steer clear of new items in their environments. If you are going to use a snap type trap or a rat zapper, put out the bait without the trap for a day or two. Let the rats get used to the presence of the bait. Then use the same reward to bait the trap.
With amazing hearing, vision, and a sense of smell and touch that is far beyond what most people would have anticipated, trapping mice can be a challenge. You need to be able to outsmart the mice in your home to get rid of them for good.
If you dig a little deeper into the various products, you’ll find that the studies have mixed results. Overall, some ultrasonic pest control devices show some results with certain pests – how’s that for convincing? These products are by no means a quick fix, and none of them claim 100% effectiveness on any pest, so they need to be kept in perspective as a possible contributor to an overall pest management system, not as a magic weapon.
Big sheets work best for big rats. When it traps one, you will hear it squeeking. Kill it… place whole tray in a tub of water, or whack it in the head. Use a disposible glove, slowly peel the rodent off the glue (usually by holding the tail) and dispose of the carcass. This way you can reuse the trap many times, until so much glue has been removed that you need to add more. Just try to place your glue traps in locations with a minimum of loose material around them… straw, leaves, trash, etc…. so stuff doesn’t blow or get kicked onto the glue. Works great in barns, sheds, etc. I’ve caught about thirty rats and some mice already this way.
The Victor rat trap can be used indoors or out. Because of its design, it is perfect for a barn or other outdoor location. This trap is 7 inches long and 3.25 inches wide, which is perfect for capturing those large rats. Due to the fact that this trap is designed for rats, it won’t work as well for smaller mice. These traps are very sturdy and a produce a wicked snap that can kill a rate up to 6 inches. It’s the most economical way to take care of the occasional rat or a whole house infestation.
Benefits: Victor traps can be used to release rats safely from the glue traps with a bit of oil. With Victor Glue traps you can save money on rat control and fight your rat infestation at economical price.

If the problem areas are anywhere within your home, garage or office, the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap is a convenient and powerful alternative to conventional snap traps. Operating on four C-size batteries, this mailbox-like device lures rats inside and kills them instantly with a 4,000-volt shock.
I find a splash of Pine Sol to be helpful with dead critter stink. Don’t know if it will deter the buggers from coming to the bait, but it probably won’t, in itself, kill anything else that comes along. Bec is right, ethylene glycol is highly toxic . . . but attracts animals due to its sweet taste. Don’t wan’t to kill the birds and bees and dogs and deer . . . just the rats.
The all-weather housing allows the trap to be used indoors and outdoors while the 2-chamber designs make cleaning easy. It delivers a heart-stopping shock that kills the rat or mice in a humane manner without blood, splatter or any other mess.
Experts say this is the next evolution in rat trap design. The unit is created from high-impact plastic and various other rust-resistant metals. When you buy this one, you buy it for life. The general design ensures both durability and a long lifespan. The Rat Snap is easy to use, highly effective and it is safe. There is no chance of catching your finger in it like older style traps. Customers are saying that even the savviest of rats are no match for the Tomcat. With its room to amply put bait, they can’t resist. All you have to do is open the trap and set it perpendicular to a wall. Put it right in the rat’s main travel pathways for best use. This trap works best 5 – 100 feet from a nest or food source.
Mice can detect your scent on traps you’ve handled and may then stay away from them. To prevent that, wear gloves when handling mouse trap bait and setting mouse traps. Gloves used for food preparation, health care, or washing dishes all work well. (Be sure to wear gloves to handle a trap after it has caught a pest to protect yourself from disease.)
Change of plans. This bucket trap may work for mice but not for this nemesis! As Roy Scheider, star of Jaws, said when he laid eyes on the shark, “Your going to need a bigger boat.” When dealing with Ratzilla and his kin, you’re going to need a bigger bucket!
I bought one from Groupon, only 15US$ I just try it today, try to get rid of cockroach, 2 inches big one from my kitchen. I wonder, will it drive it out of the kitchen into my living room? By the way, the using the device as a hammer comment was funny.
To find out your rats bait preference, he advises to put 3 or 4 different nontoxic baits (peanut butter, seeds, cheese, walnut pieces, kitten kibble, bacon bits, etc.) in places you have seen rodents. That way in few days you’ll find out which food rats prefer. As rats are suspicious of new objects and novel foods – be patient – the adaption may take three or four days.

Quick answer. They don’t work! I found this page while researching how to deter rats in walls because I literally have one right now in my wall. It kept me up all night chewing and scratching at the wall. The wall it is on has one of these devices plugged in to it. I turned it to the max setting and still the little turd was scratching away. It could care less about the noise. It’s more annoying to me than the rat. Don’t waste your money. Lucky for me, I bought mine on a flash sale from amazon so it wasn’t too expensive. Waste of money. It’s a gimmic that people are getting roped into like every other gimmic.

At the same time, if mice have invaded a small flat, buying an expensive electronic trap, which undoubtedly has many advantages (described below), but is aimed at long-term use with multiple recharges, is pointless and is unprofitable if you only need to catch two or three rodents.
It’s a very easy to use product. You just have to plug it in the socket or insert batteries. Apply a small amount of bait, like peanut butter etc., and then place this Hoont Electronic Rodent Trap at the desired location where you see their activity.
While basic snap traps are powerful, and box-covered traps are even more potent, a step above all of those simpler trapping devices is the Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap. Operating on four D-size batteries, this thin device fits conveniently alongside walls with its rectangular shape. You simply bait the inside with peanut butter, flip the on-switch and allow the Zapper to do its trick.
A lot of people are suspicious of whether home rat traps will really work or not. Anyway, the reality of the situation is that if you make them correctly. Also put them in the right areas of your home where there is high population of rodents. It is sometimes unclear why originally built rodent traps may not work to rid you of rats while homemade ones will work successfully, but it happens.
