Rats are heavier, stronger and smarter than mice, so snap and glue traps won’t do for them. They can co-operate to steal the bait from a mechanical trap. Sticky traps can catch a young rat; mature individuals will be able to escape from it within an hour or two. That is why electronic traps are the best solution against rats.
The Aspectek Reusable is made from washable materials and includes a built-in bait cup, making it a sanitary option for effective pest elimination time and time again. It opens easily for quick disposal of its victims into the trash.
Im a bass player and whenever Id be practicing loud I’d be hearing all this scurrying in my ceiling. Yeah I have rats in my attic and my bass guitar was pissing them off. Rats don’t like Intrasound waves vibrating them so along with traps and tons of decon and shaking them up with my bass I’ve been killing lots of them.
Rat zappers consist of an electrified tunnel that electrocutes the rat when it takes the bait. You don’t have to see the dead rat, and you don’t have to touch the dead rat. Just empty the rat zapper into the garbage when the catch light is blinking. (Don’t throw the zapper away.) There are no chemicals, no poisons, and the electric trap can catch several dozen rats before it needs new batteries or a fresh charge. You place rat zappers in the same places you place spring traps, but out of reach of children or pets who might want to see what is inside.
As hinted by its name, the PestNoMore will make pests such as rats no more in your home. The well-built contraception comes in new improved design for better performance and reliability. It’s constructed from high-quality plastic and can be powered from the AC mains or batteries.
I bought four of the plugin ones off Amazon. They specify the range they work and we get mice in our basement. I plugged them all in downstairs except one I put in my garage. Surprisingly they did work, even on spiders. This was two years ago I think, but a few months ago they stopped working. They may of stopped working sooner because a year ago two stray cats made a home of my garage and the deal was they can stay and I will feed them if they catch mice lol. Which they do lol.
Glue traps don’t require any bait at all, and they are safe for children and pets (at least pets larger than a hamster). However, either the rat dies of starvation or thirst, or you have to take appropriate precautions to avoid getting bitten when you remove the angry trapped rat still alive on the glue trap.
The specific location for a trap matters as well. Rats prefer dark areas where food is present. That said, kitchen corners and cupboards can be good places to set them. Finally, one must consider the type of bait they choose to use. Peanut butter and cream cheese baits are some of the safest types to use around pets, as they are non-poisonous and sticky, which will make it tough for a rat to escape.

I purchased one, a week ago, to control fleas and bugs. Also, we have some spiders. The fleas activity was reduced. I don’t want to say that it stopped totally yet. My arms are getting a chance to heal now from the bites I get when sleeping. I believe the product works. I have not seen a single spider around. It’s important to get rid of clutter around the house because ‘things’ will absorb the sound. It may depend on what product brand you purchase. I purchased the “Transonic Pro Electronic Pest Repeller”. I got mine from Gardenfun.com but you might find them somewhere else also. Give it a week or two to see results. My husband agreed about the change in our home.
Live traps are generally larger than standard snap traps.  The larger trap size can be more of an issue to the rat and can create “trap shyness”.  Live rat traps also create another problem – the rat is alive when captured.   The rat has to then be relocated far enough away that it can’t find it’s way back.  That usually means a trip in the car or truck to let it go somewhere.
If you see a rat in your home, then chances are there are more where that one came from. According to allbusiness.com, one female rat can bread at 2 months of age and can produce as many as 22 pups in one litter; and one female rat can have as many as six litters in one year. Rats present a number of problems to your home, most notably health issues—rats are known to carry disease. If you suspect a rat problem, consider using Tomcat rat traps. Armed with Tomcat traps, all you need to do is set them up.
If glue boards are used in rat control, then the Trapper Tunnel is recommended. The Trapper Tunnel is a piece of heavy cardboard that is shaped like a tunnel. The glue board is placed inside of the tunnel to help keep it protected from dust, dirt and falling objects.  This can help double or even triple the life of the glue board.

I used 5 gecko lizards in my apartment years ago to get rid of some roaches. after release the lizards hid under the furniture and ate roaches till they were gone ( roaches and lizards ) I guess they followed the food.
Live rat trapping is difficult but can be accomplished.  The problem with live trapping is that unlike snap traps, the rat has to enter the trap and walk across the “trip” plate to get to the lure.  Some rats will wander into the trap without any thought and get trapped.  Other rats are smart and will not enter the trap at all. These rats are said to be “trap shy”.
Earning its nickname “packrat,” this rodent is particularly fond of shiny objects and will drop whatever it’s carrying to take the trinket instead. Woodrats gnaw on fruit trees, furniture, mattress bedding, wires, conduits and paper products in the home. They can cause serious financial loss for farmers and homeowners.
Keep Trapping: The best results for both rodents and insects come from using ultrasonic pest repellents along with trapping. Simply put, the sound waves cause the pests to scurry around, which drives them right into your traps.

Decided to try some traps, guess what !? Spent another $60 for 2 traps in vain. No rats were caught in almost a month, nevertheless rats became less and less shy, sometimes appearing in broad daylight.
The modified snap trap approach is a little more difficult to make but can provide good results; A rat snap trap, coffee can, small gauge wire and some hardware cloth with some screws is what you’ll need. First attach the trap to the can by screwing the wood just under the tongue (trigger) to the front of the can. Next cut the cloth about a 1/2 inch bigger than the size of the can. Place the cloth on the back side of the can and mold the edges slightly down around the edges. The concave or protruding side up, use your wire to attach it to the spring loaded snap wire of the trap. The long trigger release arm goes through the cloth and sets the trigger. Test the trap out to make sure the release arm does not block the cloth from covering the entire mouth of the can when it shuts. Bait the back of the can with nuts or peanut butter and set the trap. (you can also attach a board for stability to the back of the can) Catch the mouse alive and release him away from the home.
There are several alternatives to using mouse glue traps. Snap traps work by triggering a mechanism designed to break the mouse’s neck. Though they pose the risk of causing physical injury when tampered with by children and pets, they are inexpensive, can be reused in most cases and quickly trap and kill mice without inhumane drawn-out suffering. If safety is an issue with regard to children or pets, you can even purchase covered snap traps.
Even though rats have tiny heads, they are not as naive as people often assume. A rat will be suspicious of new objects in its environment. This applies to rat traps, which could fail to lure prey if placed cold turkey out in the open.

After my encounters with the mouse who had gotten stuck in our glue trap, I wasn’t able to sleep for several nights without the paranoia that every little sound I heard was made by a small suffering mouse.

Trapping a mouse can be a trial-and-error process. But you can take some shortcuts with Victor’s list of best mouse trap baits. As a starter, researchers and trapping experts alike recommend peanut butter bait for several reasons:
The black rat, also known as, confusingly, a house rat, or as a roof rat or ship rat, originated in tropical Asia. It now ranges along the Gulf Coast of the United States, up to about 300 miles (500 km) inland. It is found all over the North Island of New Zealand, and in coastal Australia. Black rats are also common in India. Black rats are smaller than Norway rats, just up to 12 inches (30 cm) tip of the nose to tip of the tail in length, their tails longer than their bodies. They have black fur. Their ears are large and their noses are pointy. Their droppings are about ½ inch (12 mm) long and have pointed ends. In the wild, black rats live in trees, favoring dead palm fronds and dead vegetation. They get into attics and roofs in houses, or they might come down a chimney or a rooftop sewer vent. They are picky eaters, and don’t handle cold weather very well.
How it works –  When a rat or mouse stumbles onto the glue, it immediately becomes entangled.  The rodent then usually makes a valiant effort to escape, and as a result usually becomes completely covered in glue, resulting in a long slow death, suffocation or starvation.  In some instances, rats have been known to chew off body parts in order to escape.  When a rat or mouse is captured, simply toss into the trash and replace the board.
This handy contraception is black in color and measures 11 x 4.5 x 5 inches. It is powered by 4 D batteries that operate the sensors that activate the 7000V shock. It is energy efficient and will kill as many as 30 rats before the alkaline batteries need to be replaced. Unlike other traps that leave a bloody mess or odor, this one makes clean and mess-free kills.
Totally reusable, these rat killers are made from sturdy waterproof and stain resistant plastic. Easy to wash, they can be reused time and time again without becoming stained and unhygienic like traditional wooden traps.

Live Catch Rat Trap: This is a trap that captures rats and keeps them trapped until you release them. It is a humane way because you don’t kill animals. You can free them into the wild, preferably from 200 to 300 feet from your home. If you really don’t want to kill rats and prefer to keep them away after the capture as soon as possible, the live rat trap is the right choice for you. Also, it’s a good solution if you have little kids in your house – you can teach them to deal carefully with any animals, even such harmful pests such rats and mice. The price is from ~$10. Essential reading: Havahart live catch rat trap
While the boards do trap mice, they will not kill them. This leaves the rat to suffer a slow and painful death from hunger and dehydration if not disposed off quickly – so make sure you inspect daily.
5 Gallon, Self-Resetting Mouse Trap – The bucket mouse trap catches many mice in a single trap and does not need to be reset between mice. It’s also so simple to make that you probably already have most the parts parts needed lying around your home.

Set out unset rat traps can be buried in grain, sawdust, or similar materials within an empty cardboard box or pie pan. Place the rat bait in small pieces near it and above it with the hidden trap below. Once the rats start taking the bait, set the traps. This set up will acclimate the rats to the traps, once adapted, set enough traps to kill a large percentage of the population before the rodents become ” trap shy” This method is called mass trapping, catching them at a higher rate than they can repopulate and become shy of the trap.

It’s best to use the same bait over and over again. Rats and mice cannot vomit, so they avoid potential poisoning by eating only tiny amounts of new foods. They are more likely to take a bait they have eaten before.
Forget the old cartoon image of mice eating cheese. The rodents are primarily nut and seed eaters, so the mouse trap bait they are most strongly attracted to is peanut butter or hazelnut spread. Their hunger for calories also entices them to try chocolate. When temperatures drop outside, mice come inside, slow down, and focus on building nests, so you can lure them to mouse traps with materials such as cotton balls, dental floss, yarn, and twine. If using snap traps, tie or wrap the fibers around the mouse trap’s trigger to force mice to pull or gnaw on the bait, springing the trap.
Hoont™ Electronic Rodent Trap costs ~$58.99. The trap is supplied in two pieces which are supposed to be assembled. The idea of its functioning is the same as for any other trap: the rodents are electrocuted once they touch metal plates covering the entire floor of the trap. The trap also has an indicator which gives either a red flash (this happens when a rodent is inside, don’t touch anything if you don’t want to get electrocuted!) or a green one (when the rodent is finally dead). There is also a sound signal available.
Glue traps never work to keep rodents away in the long run, and their use will actually backfire. This is because when animals are killed or otherwise removed, the resultant spike in the food supply causes accelerated breeding among survivors and newcomers—and this means increased populations. The only surefire way to keep mice and other animals out of your house is to make it less inviting to them.
To trap Roof Rats, set traps on tree limbs, under vegetation on a backyard fence or trellis, or on other aboveground locations roof rats are known to frequent. Fasten the traps with wire to overhead pipes, rafters and beams.
A: The staple on the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is used to hold the arm bar securely to the trap. The staple will need to be removed before setting. An instruction sheet and video are available that will give step-by-step instructions on how to set the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap.
When an infestation persists, one of the more effective methods of elimination involves getting rats accustomed to traps before setting them.  To introduce a trap, place it in an active area but don’t set it. Allow rats to feed off this “safe” trap for a day or two. Once the critters have accepted this object as part of their regular turf, bait the trap again, but set it up to snap the next rat that crosses its path.
Our friend has told us about his trying to catch rats with the help of an ordinary snap trap. Once he saw how two rats were stealing the bait from the trap. One rat raised the trap’s cross-bar with the help of its teeth and returned it back after its rat-friend pulled out the bait. Rats are so cunning and adaptable that it is very hard to get rid of them. By their ability to survive, they can be compared only with cockroaches. That is why electronic traps, which kill rats by electric shock immediately, have become the best solution for many people.
Mice are naturally wary of new objects in the areas they frequent. You can acclimate them by putting out baited but unset mouse traps for a few days, whether you are using classic snap mouse traps, electronic mouse traps, or live traps. Once you see the mice taking the mouse trap bait, you know that the mouse traps are in the right place and that the pests will return to them. Then it’s time to set the mouse traps.
As a pest control technician , I could confirm that these products work perfectly for catching all forms of rats; whether they are babies or adults. In California where I work at, we have issues with roof and Norwegian rats and I could say that I haven’t had any issues with them. At times it can get messy but they are a clean and effective snap trap. Well done Victor and I hope my company continues to buy from you.
Rats can be nasty pests; they find ways into seemingly impenetrable places, gnaw through most everything and multiply quickly. An electric rat trap sends an electrical current into the rat, effectively killing it.
You’ll quickly notice how handy buckets are for homemade rat traps. The rolling log trap is similar to the bottle trap in that the “log” spins, dropping rats and mice down into the bucket. This is a cheap multi-catch option that won’t break or wear out easily and can be used again and again.
