The best bait for a rat trap could all depend on the species of rat you’re trying to catch. Different species eat different types of food. For instance, black rats are herbivorous creatures, but brown rats are omnivorous by nature.
It might be best not to completely rely on these devices for pest control. Your best bet is to call your local Orkin Branch Office and have an Orkin Pest Specialist come to your home and provide you with a thorough rodent inspection. Your Orkin Pest Specialist will develop a customized, scientifically proven, treatment protocol that best fits your needs.

If you don’t have a bucket at your convenience, fear not! There are plenty of clever ways to catch rats with everyday items, as you’ll see with this water bottle trap. The rat’s curiosity will eventually get the better of it, and when that happens, it’s as good as caught!
I had a mouse problem and the door on my Have-A-Heart type trap did not close, although the mouse was able to enjoy the Peanut Butter. I tried a Dead On Arrival (DOA) Mouse Glue trap that I got at the 99 Cent Only store that is selling on eBay for $4. It did not work. I also got 2 Dead End Brand Glue boards and 2 Rat Spring activated traps and they also did not work. On the Glue Boards I used Cashews as the mice and Rats love them as well. On the Spring Traps I used Peanut Butter. The mouse ingested all the peanut butter and the cashews without getting stuck on the Glue Boards or activating the Spring Traps. After trying everything I got on line and saw that people had luck and raved about the TomCat Brand Glue boards. I went to Homey Depot and the person In the Garden Center I talked to also recommended the TomCat Glue Traps. I got a pack of 2 and got 2 mice in 2 days. I then dump the trap in a 5 Gallon bucket of water and drowned the Rodents. The TomCat Rat Traps really work well for mice and I highly recommend them. I also recommend using Tape on the bottom of the trap to make it more stable. Another good trap is the Rat Zapper. The only trouble I have with the Rat Zapper is they are expensive to use as they go through batteries quickly. I only get about 4 Kills with a set of 4 D batteries. I still use the Have-A -Heart type trap for Rats as it still works well. Another trick is to let the Peanut Butter harden for a couple of days on the Trap before putting the trap into action. Another trick I am using on the Have-A-Heart type trap is to apply the Peanut Butter on the back of the activator as the Rat has to apply full pressure to the trigger to get it’s treat.
Thought it would work since it’s labeled for rats but mice walk through it like it’s nothing. I’ve seen a whole body imprint and no mouse. Very disappointing…for the price I paid, it couldn’t even beat the old school mouse snap traps.
Before you can pick the best trap for the situation, it’s crucial to determine whether you’re dealing with a rat or mouse. For starters, the paw prints of a brown rat are typically around 20mm in width, whereas mice paw prints are generally under 10mm wide. Likewise, rat droppings are about the size of pumpkin seeds, and mice droppings are more the size of sunflower kernels. Additionally, mice tend to nest inside homes around the clock, whereas rats are often active indoors and out.

Device Location: The sound waves from ultrasonic pest control devices are short range and very weak, so they’re easily blocked by furniture, walls, and corners. To test out the location of your device, place a lamp next to the device, turn off all the other lights, and note the beams and shadows from the lamp. The repellent sound waves will pretty much only be active where the light reaches.

rip wood, floor tile and subway tile from wall over and over, so one needs to look for those holes and patch with caulk and patch mouse stickies on top of the caulk. It is important to look for the source of entries to patch up, otherwise they will continue to enter apt or house.

Sticky traps can catch a young rat; mature individuals will be able to escape from it within an hour or two. That is why electronic traps are the best solution against rats.
Thought about using a garbage can instead of a bucket. Can catch many at once! Also love the idea of putting sunflower seeds over the water. Also, can possibly lower the wire and roller so the rat has to bend down more and may fall in?

5) Are mice entry spots located in “sensitive” areas of the house? If the mice enter or frequent sensitive parts of the home, such as near expensive carpeting or upholstery, then you may not want to risk blood splatters using a Snap Trap. Equally though, there is a risk of mice rolling over Glue Traps onto those surfaces. An Electronic Trap or a Baiting Station might work best in such situations.

My cheap landlord decided to stop having the pest control company come spray for roaches. Now we have roaches. I have tried everything from spraying to boric acid to fogging. Nothing seems to work. I just want to know if these electronic devices really work??? Just cut the nonsense I just want to know if they really work?? Especially if I’m gonna spend money on them.

If your infestation is really new, the pests may decide to move elsewhere but otherwise, like any other noise, they will simply get used to it as part of their daily life. In my experience with mice and rats, the only sure thing to do is make sure ALL food is out of their reach and lay good, old-fashioned traps. If you don’t like kill-traps, remember to release your humane catches *at least* 3 miles from your home and preferably the other side of a busy road or river to make sure they don’t simply return.
Note: If you encounter an animal who’s stuck to a glue trap, pour a small amount of cooking oil or baby oil onto the stuck areas (avoiding the animal’s nose and mouth) and gently work the animal free. If you can’t free the animal, quickly rush him or her to a veterinarian or wildlife rehabilitator. Sometimes euthanasia performed by a veterinarian is the most humane way to end the trapped animal’s suffering.

Ammonia-soaked cotton balls or rags will drive rodents out (they hate the smell). Place them in areas where rodents, droppings, or nests have been seen, and be sure to give the animals a few days to leave. Then, to keep unwelcome “visitors” out, seal entry points using foam sealant, steel wool, hardware cloth, or metal flashing. If any rodents need to be removed from homes, this can be done with humane box traps.
These devices have worked for us for about 25 years– not the same ones because every few years I’ve bought new ones. We live in Florida and those awful palmetto bugs occasionally come in from the outside. When we get one, it doesn’t live long. I notice it first behaving strangely and a few days later find it dead. The devices have worked for us and with more safety and less expense than an extermination contract. I put them in my mother’s house which was overrun by mice. Everything the exterminator tried had failed. The devices has her mouse free in two weeks.
