When I finally succeeded in my task, a battered and disheveled mouse, with missing clumps of fur, limped off into the night. Many trapped animals end up breaking or chewing off their own limbs in their struggle for freedom.

“TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE I just wish I could attach the photo of the TWO rats I got in one trap, at the same time. It looks like they had a race for the cheese and it was a tie!” Read More Reviews »

Mouse glue traps are typically small sheets of paper with a strong adhesive substance on the top of them. Homeowners can place them along their walls or in common areas where mice travel. When a mouse or other rodent steps on it, the adhesive holds them in place indefinitely. Glue traps are relatively inexpensive compared to the more humane mouse traps. The glue does not contain any chemicals that may harm your children or pets.
After a couple of days , it finally got in, but knocked it over and got out, So wedging it upright again caught something but this time it chewed its way out. So yay for catching.. But it ate off two spikes to get out.

A snap trap, when used properly, kills the mouse instantly with a bar that comes down on its neck. The problem is that they may not be set properly – and when that happens, mice may be able to grab the bait without triggering the trap… or they may be injured and left to suffer, rather than being quickly killed.

Multiple Catch Traps: These devices are used to catch and hold multiple mice in a single contraption. They do not kill the rodents. Instead, these are ideal for catch and release infestation control operations. Once the mouse enters into the trap, it has no way out except to be released by human intervention.
Moth Balls – Ah, mothballs, the end-all be-all animal and rodent repellent product sold on the market today. Cheap to make, and easy to market to unsuspecting and gullible shoppers, mothballs, or naphthalene as the chemical is called, is the ingredient in so many “bat away” and “squirrel-be-gone” and “rat magic” products sold out there. Your grandmother swears that sprinkling mothballs keeps the rats away. Three things: mothballs are a known carcinogen (cause cancer in humans), they poison the environment, and rats don’t give a crap. I’ve been in attics with up to 50 pounds of mothballs (and homeowners now suffering headaches) and the rats are still running all over the place. Mothballs don’t work.

Place rat traps in high-activity areas of the rat colony. These areas may include darkened corners, along walls, behind appliances and objects, and all areas where droppings are evident. Since rats need to touch surfaces as they move, place them accordingly.
Experts say this is the next evolution in rat trap design. The unit is created from high-impact plastic and various other rust-resistant metals. When you buy this one, you buy it for life. The general design ensures both durability and a long lifespan. The Rat Snap is easy to use, highly effective and it is safe. There is no chance of catching your finger in it like older style traps. Customers are saying that even the savviest of rats are no match for the Tomcat. With its room to amply put bait, they can’t resist. All you have to do is open the trap and set it perpendicular to a wall. Put it right in the rat’s main travel pathways for best use. This trap works best 5 – 100 feet from a nest or food source.
Device Location: The sound waves from ultrasonic pest control devices are short range and very weak, so they’re easily blocked by furniture, walls, and corners. To test out the location of your device, place a lamp next to the device, turn off all the other lights, and note the beams and shadows from the lamp. The repellent sound waves will pretty much only be active where the light reaches.
Position rat traps to maximize the chances of rats to cross over the traps during their natural travels along their runways. Set snap traps extended at a right angle from a wall with the trigger end almost touching the wall. If rat traps are set parallel to the wall, set them in pairs with triggers situated to intercept the rats from either direction.
Norway rats are larger than the smaller, and sleeker Roof Rats. Roof rats have bigger ears and a longer tail than the Norway rat. Also, the roof rat has a pointed nose, and they are excellent climbers. Roof Rats inhabit attics, upper stories, and exterior vegetation. Norway rats occupy lower portions of the building and the ground.
Once the wire is through both ends, make sure the wire extends a few inches past the bucket on both edges. With the threaded can centered over the bucket, crimp the wire at both ends of the can. This will keep the can sliding to the edge of the bucket which would defeat the trap.
Along with that, you need to be careful while setting up these traps because they may hurt you. After setting them, these should be placed at some place where children or pets can’t reach because if they accidently touch them it can cause injury to them.
Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.
Black rats, which scale trees and enter homes through coin-sized holes in attics, find peanut butter irresistible. Brown rats, which typically rummage through garbage and snake their way inside homes via tiny cracks, can be tempted with a smelly cheese.
Each of these traps is set similarly. For the TOMCAT SecureKill Rat Trap, place peanut butter or TOMCAT Attractant Gel into the bait well prior to setting the trap. Pull the set bar back until you hear a click to let you know that the trap is set.
Considering the toll rats have taken on human populations for centuries, rat traps have long been a necessity, whether in an urban, suburban or rural setting. If the battle between man and rat is being fought on your property, it is crucial to learn the most effective trapping tools — as well as the best bait for a rat trap — in order to win this war. With the following 15 tips, you will have all the facts you need to catch a rat in any situation.
Once crimped, insert the wire into both holes. You will need to bend the second side of the wire to get it in the hole. Just straighten the wire after it’s through the hole. Center the can over the bucket opening and bend the spare wire on the outside of the bucket around the bucket rim to keep the can centered over the bucket.
Exclusion is an important rodent control technique. It will get rid of the rats by making it difficult for them to enter the home or structure. Rats are easier to exclude than mice because rats a typically larger. Mice can enter an opening as small as 3/8″ wide. All openings greater that 1/4″ should be sealed to exclude mice. For rats, all openings greater that 1/2″ should be sealed.
The black rat, also known as, confusingly, a house rat, or as a roof rat or ship rat, originated in tropical Asia. It now ranges along the Gulf Coast of the United States, up to about 300 miles (500 km) inland. It is found all over the North Island of New Zealand, and in coastal Australia. Black rats are also common in India. Black rats are smaller than Norway rats, just up to 12 inches (30 cm) tip of the nose to tip of the tail in length, their tails longer than their bodies. They have black fur. Their ears are large and their noses are pointy. Their droppings are about ½ inch (12 mm) long and have pointed ends. In the wild, black rats live in trees, favoring dead palm fronds and dead vegetation. They get into attics and roofs in houses, or they might come down a chimney or a rooftop sewer vent. They are picky eaters, and don’t handle cold weather very well.
Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.
Nooski Rat Trap – great option to kill rats humanely and quickly. The product is really easy to use. It works by using rubber latex ring. When the rodent enters the trap the ring is released onto its neck/chest causing the critter to spring free of the Nooski trap and die quickly a few feet away.
Here’s the picture of the top cover that I used, didn’t any luck with it neither. I have laid a commercial sticky trap, didn’t have any luck with it neither. It was sitting under my bed for almost 2 weeks now. Until my wife saw 2 of them running around, chasing each other like in a fight, as if not scared of humans. So she put it along their path where it passed through in one direction. Sure enough when it came back, swooop! Ssstick! And it caught it. Ever wonder about the other one? Well, as her story goes, the other smaller one then saw the opportunity to attack the stuck mouse. So it jumped into it like she’s not watching. Here’s they’re picture.
When you set up and bait a snap trap, it’s best to wear gloves and apply the bait with kitchen utensils. The reasons for this are simple. Rats are generally afraid of human smell, and they can often detect it from the oil left by fingerprints. If you do happen to touch a trap with your bare hands, wash it off with hot water before setting it. While fingerprints won’t render traps totally ineffective, your chances of trapping a rat improves when your scent is absent from the trap itself.
The Norway rat, also known as the barn rat, brown rat, common rat, gray rat, house rat, water rat, wharf rat, sewer rat, and super rat, originated in northern China. It now is found over most of the USA and some of the warmer regions of Canada. It’s also the most common rat in Europe, including, as you might expect, Norway, and it is found in temperate climates on every continent except Antarctica. Norway rats are relatively large, up to about 16 inches (40 cm) tip of the nose to tip of the tail in length. They have brown or grayish-brown fur. They have small ears and a blunt nose. Their tail is shorter than the rest of their body. Their droppings are about ¾ inch (16-20 mm) long, and have blunt ends. Norway rats prefer lower locations. Soil, sewers, basements, and the ground floors of home are their preferred habitat. They aren’t picky eaters, and they survive weather extremes.
Rats are not just scary and creepy, they can cause a huge damage to your property. These rodents have strong jaw to chew not only through fabrics but also through plastic covered cables and wall coverings.

As a pest control technician , I could confirm that these products work perfectly for catching all forms of rats; whether they are babies or adults. In California where I work at, we have issues with roof and Norwegian rats and I could say that I haven’t had any issues with them. At times it can get messy but they are a clean and effective snap trap. Well done Victor and I hope my company continues to buy from you.
How it works – Plastic rat traps work by suffocating the rat, not by a crushing blow from a thick heavy wire.  After capture, the plastic lid squeezes tighter and tighter and the rat cannot breathe.  As a result the rat suffocates – usually within minutes.  The air literally gets squeezed out of it’s lungs.
Many of us have dogs and cats that roam the yard — a rat trap won’t kill them, but it will hurt them pretty badly. What I do is put down a rat trap – baited with bacon (unlike previous poster, I’m not much for sewing, so I use a twist-tie) – and put it under a plastic milk crate with a couple cinder blocks sitting on top. The pets can’t get to the trap, but the rats can . . . pop goes the rodent! P.S. since I’m lazy, I put the trap set next to the trash can, so I don’t have to walk too far with a dead, stinkin’, flea infested rat.
The Raticator Electronic Rat Trap works extremely well and can safely be used indoors around children and pets.  It’s our #1 pick for indoor rat and mice control, and the only trap that kills both mice and large rats.
Trusted by thousands of users, Havahart Animal Trap is made of rust-resistance wire mesh with steel reinforcements. It’s properly galvanized which maximizes its resistivity towards rust and corrosion. This is one of the best outdoor rat traps on the market.
Glue traps are popular because of their low profile. They may be placed flush against the cabinet or wall, where pesky rats like to travel. Making an effective sticky trap cuts down on your rat control costs and provides you with a safe alternative to chemicals and poisons.
Additionally, this product will need to be placed away from pets and children because they could easily become victims of its use (however this is something you should think about with all types of traps)
But it doesnt end there. They are all over my yard as well and destroying my garden. I didn’t want to resort to something as extreme and cruel as this, but I spend months and months on my vegetable gardens and the only one’s benefitting and eating the delicious veggies are these little f&^rs.
