Studies show that more mice are caught on the first night you set out mouse traps in your home than on any subsequent night. So start your campaign to get rid of mice by setting mouse traps wherever you see signs of their activity, and use many mouse traps and a few different types of mouse trap bait to be sure your opening night is a rousing success.
Rats are very destructive. They will cause a lot of damage to your home and belongings. They are not toilet trained and so will defecate anywhere and everywhere and thereby transmit diseases and infections. Learn more about the problems they can cause you.
A: Try to use the least amount of bait possible in any style mouse trap used.  The more bait you use, the easier it is for rodents to remove it without disturbing the traps. The goal is to have them apply extra force to the trigger pedal with their nose/tongue to remove the bait.  To do this press a small amount of bait into the bait pedal.

Once the wire is through both ends, make sure the wire extends a few inches past the bucket on both edges. With the threaded can centered over the bucket, crimp the wire at both ends of the can. This will keep the can sliding to the edge of the bucket which would defeat the trap.
Worked out the package, two nights in a row. 1st night female, 2nd night male. Bought the two pack, put strawberry in one & peanut butter in the other (something eating our strawberries). Strawberry trap got them both, didn’t even put new bait second night, just reset in same spot with a little bait still in cup. No more rat problem (for now). PB trap still sitting there with bait, set so strawberry is the bait of choice.
Its design is slightly different, and therefore they are much safer than the conventional snap traps. You can use them along the walls, in the corners, or wherever you see their activity. These traps can also be used by professionals for controlling the rat infestation.
DRG suggested using a different bait, one he wouldn’t easily remove. I modified the trigger to make the V-shaped metal tab stick up at a 45º angle. I then formed a ball of cheese around the trigger and reset the trap.

Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.
Set the Trap – Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
Bell and Howell pestrepellers 10 pack on HSN DO NOT WORK .They do not remove bugs already in the home. I called the company itself who suggested I open a window so moths, flys , and other flying insects can fly out!!!!!! What about what flies in at that time?? I was very disapointed in the B & H reply. They promised to call back and I never heard from them again. I had to use poisonous sprays to take care of the problem myself.as the moth problem was spreading all over the house and to adjoining apartments. Save your investment . They don’t work at all.
It’s only when the mouse is killed instantly that the trap could be considered humane, as the animal dies quickly without experiencing panic. That’s why it’s important to set traps correctly. Carefully follow the instructions that come with the traps. In addition, below are a few tips to help ensure the trap works as intended.
Benefits: Victor traps can be used to release rats safely from the glue traps with a bit of oil. With Victor Glue traps you can save money on rat control and fight your rat infestation at economical price.
I bought four of the plugin ones off Amazon. They specify the range they work and we get mice in our basement. I plugged them all in downstairs except one I put in my garage. Surprisingly they did work, even on spiders. This was two years ago I think, but a few months ago they stopped working. They may of stopped working sooner because a year ago two stray cats made a home of my garage and the deal was they can stay and I will feed them if they catch mice lol. Which they do lol.
I’ve had one of these in my kitchen for 2 yrs, didn’t know that pests can get used to the sound. Nevertheless I bought a few more of them for some other rooms in my home. I’ve been seeing a lot of spiders in the house, so I will know if it works on them. I do recommend them, no ants, roaches that I seen. I do think that I will unplug them for a short while and then plug them in again.
How it works – a heavy gauge wire is pulled back and locked on one side of the trap.  When a rat steps on the yellow lure plate, the wire is released and instantly crushes the rat.  The wire is very heavy and the spring is very strong on most of these traps. The force of impact is enough to crush and even smash the rat to death.
Easy to set by hand or foot. Patented interlocking teeth. Removable bait cup allows trap to be service without being set. Motomco’s mechanical traps are ideal for capturing the occasional “intruder” or as part of a more extensive control program. Traps are easy to use and work well along walls, in corners or wherever rodents travel. TOMCAT reusable rat and mouse traps set in one easy motion and are safer to use the conventional snap traps.

For instance, one of the most common ways for black rats to access roofs is by climbing trees and crawling across overhanging branches. If you have this problem, trim your branches back and don’t allow any tree or bush extensions to be within three feet of your walls or roof. Employ baited snap traps along the fences, trellises and tree branches of your property to further prevent these rodents from getting into your property. Use wire to secure traps to branches, rafters and roof pipes, if need be.
A crucial step in catching mice in your house is a good trap placement. First, inspect which part of your home has the highest activity. The most common areas will be along the walls, behind furniture and poorly lit corners.
Totally reusable, these rat killers are made from sturdy waterproof and stain resistant plastic. Easy to wash, they can be reused time and time again without becoming stained and unhygienic like traditional wooden traps.
Use your free hand to place the metal pin over the U-shaped bar. Lift the yellow trigger on the trap and insert the metal pin into the “S” side (for sensitive traps) or the “F” side (for firm). Experiment with different trigger settings; the “S” trigger setting will snap easier than the “F” trigger setting.
I’ve purchased recently Ultrasonic pest repeller from amazon “http://amzn.com/B017IEZIVQ” i am really happy with it, I have a detached garage and we put everything in there as our storage room. I have a contract with pest control monthly and no matter what they do mice still coming back because we stored some dry foods in there like dog foods, dry cereals and etc.I’ve tried everything to get rid of them but they only stop for days and then coming back again. So i knew i need to do something else permanent to get rid of them and this Best Indoor Electronic Plug in Pest Control is doing a great job it does what is supposed to do. We used to have alots of crickets, waterbugs and spider too but now since i plug this pest repeller in my garage i have never seen any sign of them anymore no more mice and no more bugs and insects inside my garage. This repeller has been working really good and im so happy with it.
I cut a gob from the original can (using a heated butter knife) and placed it in a metal coffee can, then gently heated it over a low flame.( I did this in my shop, because you certainly don’t want this stuff on your kitchen stove!) Be very careful to not get it too hot, as it will burn. Next time I will use a makeshift double boiler arrangement and heat it with hot water.
I purchased a few of the Victor Professional rat trraps and the rats are getting in these traps and walking away. These traps do a good job on mice and smaller rats but the large ones are escaping. I wish Victor would put stronger springs on their traps. It would be a great improvement on these otherwise excellent traps.
Peanut butter is among the most highly recommended rat baits to use because it attracts the animal and is incredibly simple. You most likely already have peanut butter in your home and when you spread it on a trap, it will stay in place. Since the rat can’t just pick it up and take the bait with them, they are more likely to be trapped. While peanut butter is a popular choice, you can also use whole nuts, bacon, berries, gumdrops, or dried fruit. Generally speaking, roof rats will prefer foods that are plant based while Norway rats will prefer items with a lot of sugar, protein, and fat. Either species likes peanut butter and dried fruit.
This is the second round of a dozen traps. The desert heat trashes them over 6 months…however, they are the easiest to trap with. I’ve never even baited them. Never! Just place on known rat areas and they work fine without the mess. I had tried other brands, and poison…didn’t work.
It might be best not to completely rely on these devices for pest control. Your best bet is to call your local Orkin Branch Office and have an Orkin Pest Specialist come to your home and provide you with a thorough rodent inspection. Your Orkin Pest Specialist will develop a customized, scientifically proven, treatment protocol that best fits your needs.
Rats (especially Roof rats) are wary of new objects, new foods or changed in environment. They are constantly exploring surroundings and notice changes and are suspious by nature.. This is why traps and bait stations may be avoided for a day or two. They approach new food or object with caution. Within a rat colony, they may be a few rats that are extra cautious and manage to avoid traps or eating rodent baits. See Rat Trapping Tips and Rat Baiting Tips.
To entice a rat to enter a “rat zapper,” place the bait to one side of the trap. Because of the placement of their eyes, rats have better vision of the bait when it is placed to the side of the trap than when it is put in the middle of the trap. Whether you use a traditional trap or a rat zapper, if you use peanut butter, use a very small amount, less than a teaspoon (5 g).

I am the best mouser in our house (and we have three cats!) Like you, I found that rodents can eat peanut butter or cheese right off a trap without springing it. So I took to cooking a piece of turkey bacon until it was just shy of crispy, then I threaded a needle and “sewed” it onto the trap. Then I put the trap between the cabinet and stove so that the mice could only approach it from the striking side (and if the cats stuck their paws in there, the trap would spring away from them).

A lot of people are suspicious of whether home rat traps will really work or not. Anyway, the reality of the situation is that if you make them correctly. Also put them in the right areas of your home where there is high population of rodents. It is sometimes unclear why originally built rodent traps may not work to rid you of rats while homemade ones will work successfully, but it happens.
My cheap landlord decided to stop having the pest control company come spray for roaches. Now we have roaches. I have tried everything from spraying to boric acid to fogging. Nothing seems to work. I just want to know if these electronic devices really work??? Just cut the nonsense I just want to know if they really work?? Especially if I’m gonna spend money on them.
rip wood, floor tile and subway tile from wall over and over, so one needs to look for those holes and patch with caulk and patch mouse stickies on top of the caulk. It is important to look for the source of entries to patch up, otherwise they will continue to enter apt or house.
Once you’ve located the site of their activity, you should place your Rat Snap Traps perpendicular to a wall at intervals ranging between fifteen and thirty feet. For larger infestations, place traps at shorter intervals.

Baiting rat traps with peanut butter is a good way to catch a rat. One just positions a pea-size glob of peanut butter on the rat trap and waits for the rat to bite. Positioning several rat traps in areas where rats have been spotted or rat droppings have been noticed is a good strategy. It can take several days of baiting and re-baiting traps to catch a rat.
Works great, follow the label!! Must be heated for spreading. I finally cut chunks with scissors and laid them on cheap serving trays from the thrift store (metal to take the heat) and baked them at 250 degrees till they flowed out. I caught 17 rats in 1 week with 6 tray traps 🙂
There is a better way, and it wouldn’t be wrong if you learn how to identify pest like this and some strategies on how to handle them. You’ve heard of DIY rattraps? But buy the wrong type and it can go horribly wrong. The following article will turn you from novice to pro when choosing a rat trap to help with your mouse problems
Even though many people would prefer not to have to kill mice at all, there are many challenges to humane rodent pest control. Figuring out how to get rid of house mice can be a challenge, particularly if the infestation is serious. If it comes down to it, mouse snap traps are significantly more humane than some methods, especially the well-known sticky glue mouse traps.

We had mice in our kitchen and garage, but it’s been five years since we installed ultrasonic units and we have seen no sign of them! So from our experience the Homeowners report was too conservative.
Snap traps should be placed in areas of highest rodent activity. These areas can be determined by inspecting the premises for the highest concentration of rodent signs. Look for fecal pellets, tracks, runways, gnawing damage, grease marks, burrows, urine stains (made visible by a black or ultraviolet flashlight), rodent sounds, and live or dead rodents. High activity areas may include darkened corners, along walls, and behind appliances or other large objects.
Most important tip: I found that Rats got very inventive at licking or grabbing the peanut butter or bait from the airholes in back, so I just took an old metal box and blocked it so they had to go into the front to get the bait…. they still love the bait, they just aren’t able to steal it anymore.
