At about 5:45 of the video, you can see how the bait is set up with a small needle or maybe a toothpick that goes through the hole and held up by the red band. The rat, or mouse, enters in through the trapped door, pulls at the bait, which releases the tension by releasing the line to the door, and the rubber bands pull the door shut holding so much force as to keeping it closed.
If you’d like to buy it and you live in America, clicking on any of the pictures will take you to Amazon USA, who sell it at the best price I’ve been able to find. If you live in the UK, see this link.
The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the ultimate in rodent control. It works by delivering a humane, high-voltage shock to effectively kill the invading rat. This powerful device is capable of killing up to 50 rats per set of fully charged batteries (4 C), making it a great value when you’re dealing with a sizable infestation. It’s also easy to use! Get started by simply applying a high protein bait in the provided bait cup, place the trap in a location with high rodent activity and turn it on.
I put a bit of peanut butter on the center plastic bit and put this under my drawer. Finally caught the mouse that’s been running around my house for weeks! We haven’t found out where it comes in from, but at least we know that we can catch them! Thank you for these awesome traps! My brother and I took it to the next town over and released it in front of the forest. The little fellow couldn’t wriggle off. We used dishwasher soap and some water to set it free. No more rat poo around the house! Mom finally relieved. No more skittering noises in the night! Adios, El Magnifico!
After freeing the mouse, I checked the other glue traps for any struggling family members and found that a number of other individuals—including a ladybug and a big, beautiful moth—had been trapped. These glue traps often ensnare other small animals, too, including birds, squirrels, chipmunks, snakes, gerbils, and kittens.
I’ve just plugged one in each room in my house a couple of days ago, and so far it’s just increasing the activity of the mice. It’s not a quick fix and if you’re petrified of mice, like I am, these electronic devices don’t really help.
Removable Lid Ensures Easy Cleaning The sleek industrial design boasts a removable lid, providing convenient access to the trigger plates so you can easily clean it in between uses. Once a catch is made, power off the trap and remove the lid. Then simply dispose of the dead rodent in the trash without ever having to touch it!
Ordered two packs. I have been seeing a couple rats in kitchen so I thought I would try these traps over conventional traps. THEY DONT WORK. I have laid out the traps and wake up to find rat prints on the traps but NO rats.
I will as a matter of principle only recommend things on this site if I feel they’re good value. Usually I’ve tried them myself or know and trust someone else who has. In this case, I’ve been using this trap now for well over two years, with excellent results.
Rats compensate for their poor vision by having excellent memories. Once a rat locates a safe way to get to where it wants to go it will travel that path over and over again. This is why rats are great at running mazes in lab experiments.

Consider your live trap options. Use live traps for squirrels. The most common type of live trap is a small cage-like structure with some type of trap door. The company Havahart makes several sizes and models of this type of structure. These are widely considered to be the most effective for trapping squirrels, and can work for rats as well.

Spread butter on the handle of a spoon and put it across the bucket. When the mouse climbs to get peanut butter, it will fall into the bucket with a spoon. If you do not like the idea that the mice would ruin cutlery, you can make a similar trap with any other materials, such as paper plate, tissue paper roll, etc or make bucket & spoon trap with water in the bucket.
Basically what prompted going this route was that my cat recently caught two in one day in the bushes of my yard – finally giving me the hard evidence of the rats out there. I called pest control and the rep quoted $350 for a 1 month monitoring with bait traps to capture – no poison, again for the reason stated above that they might go into walls / crawl space and die and smell terrible. Oh and no guarantee on catching anything. Seriously? $350 for *maybe* some success? I might as well spend $40 for *maybe* some success with my own trap and if it doesnt work, return it.
I live on the 4th floor in single bed flat in london. I own a cat. About 14 days ago I watched a medium sized rat with a foot of tail walk across my living room floor at about 2am. The cat decided to ignore it, I think she sensed it was not worth the bother. It has been living in my kitchen sink unit . . . Last time, I poisoned a rat it was so traumatic for both of us I made a vow never to use it again. I decided to go for the trad larger spring mouse trap design . . It is supposed to break the neck instantly. . . the rat was too quick for it or it just nibbled the bait away.
Rats are often shy of new objects and placing unset traps in a new location for a week or two will increase the opportunities of catching. This will acclimate the rats to the traps, once acclimated, set enough traps to kill the a large percentage of the population before the rodents become “trap shy.” This is called mass trapping, trapping them at a higher rate than they can repopulate and become shy of the trap.
If you dig a little deeper into the various products, you’ll find that the studies have mixed results. Overall, some ultrasonic pest control devices show some results with certain pests – how’s that for convincing? These products are by no means a quick fix, and none of them claim 100% effectiveness on any pest, so they need to be kept in perspective as a possible contributor to an overall pest management system, not as a magic weapon.
Whether long-time squatters or recently-arrived invaders, rodents are particularly impolite house guests. Fortunately, there are proven methods to catch rats, mice, and squirrels with multiple types of traps to help rid your home of any unwelcome rodents. To identify the methods of rodent control that will work for you, first identify what type of rodent is in your home. Then choose the type of trap you feel most comfortable with, and the bait that will be most effective in catching the rodents in your home.

Obtain a one liter plastic water bottle. A similar bottle would work as well, but one liter water bottles are ideal because they are long and narrow, and often have flat sides which allow them to sit undisturbed. You could substitute a two liter bottle as well. Whatever type of bottle you choose, ensure it is transparent and composed of thin, pliable plastic.
Determine which type of rat you’re up against. There are two common types of rats. Brown rats (Norway rats) are particularly common. Their bodies are 7-10 inches long, they have gray-brown fur, and a tail that is shorter than their body. Indoors, they live in basements and lower portions of buildings. Black rats (roof rats) are smaller, with 6-8 inch bodies, darker gray or black fur, and have tails that are longer than their bodies. Indoors, they lives in attics, voids in ceilings, and the upper portions of buildings.
Position traps along active rodent runways, such as along walls, under large kitchen appliances, in cupboards, and other areas where rodents travel. Be sure to fit the glue trap flush against a wall where rodents will run over and stick to it. Avoid placing traps in corners indoors. Since glue traps hold the mouse in place to show evidence, you can utilize glue traps to track where rodents are traveling. If you don’t catch a mouse within 2 days, move the trap to another spot. In addition to capturing mice, Tomcat Glue Traps of all varieties also trap insects such as spiders, roaches, or even scorpions.
Affix a string to the bottle. With your bottle oriented so that the hinge is on the surface of the table, you should now have a bottle with two skewers through its upper part (one just to the left and one just to the right of the place you made the cut). Turn the bottle over so that the hinge is on the top. Unscrew the cap and place a string as long as the bottle approximately one inch down through the mouth. Screw the cap back on tightly with the string still partway inside. Give the string a slight pull to ensure it is snugly in place beneath the bottle cap.
I live in an apartment had have used ultrasonic pest control for 10 years. A few months after moving in we had a mouse problem, put down those sticky pads and bought my first ultrasonic plug ins and have been using them since 2006. After the initial problem, we spotted a rodent in Nov, 2011, rfreshed the units and no more problems until Sep 2015, which kind of surprised me because we change them every 18 months. We replaced the units and replaced them again in April of this year. It is now October and we have suddenly becme infested even though. Even though the units were replaced just 6 months ago,, we replaced them yesterday, and put down sticky pads. I’m hoping this will get rid of the disgusting things at least for the next 6 months (when we plan to move). I don’t know what happened. The plug ins worked for us for 10 years. Now I feel dirty and feel like everything in the house needs to be scoured, but I need the rodents gone first. I do have a spray I can use, but it smells so bad It kept everyone around here choking for hours.
It is important to maintain the appearance that the papered-over coffee can is capable of supporting the mouse when it walks across it. Instead of cutting a solid “X”, you could try poking small, closely-spaced holes in an “X” shape across the surface of the paper.
Q.I have been using your snap traps for 45 years. I just bought another package. I cannot get the snap to lock down or not for long. When it does lock, it goes off in my hand or within seconds of setting it down. What is going on?
DoMyOwnPestControl had the best price on the Internet that I could find for these Victor wooden rat traps. And as the advertising at the top of their web page says, “Fast, Free shipping”. Fantastic! A big plus to me. Thought these wooden Victor’s were lost to me forever. Not so – thanks to your great service.
We had mice in our kitchen and garage, but it’s been five years since we installed ultrasonic units and we have seen no sign of them! So from our experience the Homeowners report was too conservative.
For your convenience, the trap’s design allows you to easily dispose of the dead rodent without having to see or touch it. The new and improved design of the electronic trap has a removable kill chamber, which provides better plate access so you can easily clean and bait it in between uses. These traps require no poison or chemicals and can be used anywhere inside your home or business to ensure years of effective rat control.
Determine what types of rodents are in your home. Determine rodent type based on the rodent dropping you find. Mice droppings are a ¼ inch long with pointy ends, and rat droppings are ½-¾ inch with relatively rectangular or sausage like shapes. Squirrel droppings are roughly 3/8 inch with rounded edges, and can be recognized by the fact that they lighten in color over time.
Excellent. Caught rats I had been after with boards that had less “stick em.” Will buy again! I even cut the piece off that had the dead critter on it and kept using the remainder. Lay a piece of paper on the sticky part and cut through it. Helps keep scissors from getting stuck to board.
From what I understand whatever you’re trying to repel gets use to the sound. The idea would be to get one that does random sounds at different frequencies so they don’t get use to the pattern. I’m not sure if there is a product that does this?
– it is very very rare for a rat to beat it… I’ve been using mine 4 years, caught about 75 rats, and only one small female was able to freak out enough to get away… she basically squirmed like crazy, got lucky and lurched backwards out of the trap.
Is there any way I can get mice out of my room without telling my family? I’m 14 and my room was messy. It might not be my fault but I’ve seen two mice and I’m afraid my family will get mad if I tell them.
In the past because of my hearing acuity I have been invited to, and taken part in studies to test why some people are able to hear these frequencies that many cannot. Even now, as I get older and the noises are not so acute, I still hear the high pitched squeal from many electronics, which I can assure you is most unpleasant.
A: Remove the small staple holding the locking bar to the wood base. Place bait inside curl found at the end of the bait pedal. Pull back bow and hold down with thumb. With other hand, engage the curved portion locking bar under the small, V-shaped lip on the bait pedal.
High-Voltage Shock Humanely Kills Rodents This powerful device works by delivering a humane, high-voltage shock to effectively eliminate rat invaders, and is capable of eliminating up to 50 rats per set of fully charged batteries (4 “C” included for each trap). Plus, with this trap, there’s no need for poisons or chemicals, allowing it to be used anywhere inside your home or business.
My cheap landlord decided to stop having the pest control company come spray for roaches. Now we have roaches. I have tried everything from spraying to boric acid to fogging. Nothing seems to work. I just want to know if these electronic devices really work??? Just cut the nonsense I just want to know if they really work?? Especially if I’m gonna spend money on them.
Basically how this works is the mouse makes his way up the ramp, through the hole and because you put the peanut butter on the far end of the can, he is forced to step on the can, which will spin, ultimately leading to the mouse to fall into the bucket where you have water deep enough that the mouse will drown.
We had a bad rat problem that sounded like they were doing olympics in the attic every night! My wife bought the Pestacator 2000 from Home Depot. She plugged it in and that night not a sound. We have been rat free for 5 plus years.
Cage traps are metal or wire boxes containing bait (non-poisonous) to entice the normally cautious rodent. A food ball is placed inside the trap; removing or eating the food triggers a mechanism that snaps the entry gate closed, confining the rodent without injury. Cage traps must be monitored closely—a trapped rat will die of stress and dehydration if not taken outside and released promptly.
Thanks to a large capture surface, rat glue traps ensure that rodents, insects, spiders, and other pests are caught quickly, with minimal effort from you. When used as directed, our proprietary glue is able to securely hold even the heaviest rodents in place.
