Some rat traps such as the snap traps can injure people, pets, children or wildlife if they accidentally encounter the trap. It is advised to use a Trapper T Rex Snap Trap inside a secured bait station, like Protecta Bait Stations or Ambush Bait Station as an alternate trapping solution.
Beware of quality issues. Some plastic rat traps are made from cheap brittle plastic and break easily. The Trapper T-Rex Rat Snap Trap is made in the USA and is of the highest quality. It’s the plastic snap trap most commonly used by Professional Pest Control companies. It’s my number #2 pick for trapping rats.

Operating on four D-size batteries, this thin device fits conveniently alongside walls with its rectangular shape. You simply bait the inside with peanut butter, flip the on-switch and allow the Zapper to do its trick.
Mice are highly intelligent. They may react differently to different types of mouse trap bait. According to the experts at Victor Pest Control (a premier multinational pest-control service), it’s important that you use the best bait for your particular mouse trap situation. You should try different bait solutions until you find the best mouse trap bait for your particular “infestation”.
This stuff does work, but only if you handle it like the comnercial manufacturers… they MELT it to deposit it on their glue boards. Don’t bother trying any other method. Get trays ready that you want to use… cheap baking sheets/trays from thrift stores with a half-inch or more rim work great. Melt the whole can over a gas stove burner turned as low as it goes… it takes a while. I don’t know if an electric stove can be turned low enough… you don’t want to burn it. Use a cheap plastic soup ladle that you won’t need for anything else to transfer it to the baking sheets.
By having these rat traps baited with Provoke Rat Attractant , Pro-Pest Professional Lures, or peanut butter in unset traps, a large population would be use to feeding on around the traps. When the rat traps are then simultaneously set after a while of this “feeding”, a large kill can be obtained.
How it Works – Mice and small rats enter the trap through a side hole. After entering the trap, they step on a small “trip” plate that releases the entire floor and sweeps them into a holding chamber. This revolving floor is very gentle to mice and can capture several mice at the same time. The floor is similar to a “paddle wheel”. This wheel is spring loaded and will reset itself. Up to 15 mice can be captured with 1 winding of the spring. A black spring knob is located on the outside of the trap. This knob is wound by hand several times to engage the spring.
For instance, one of the most common ways for black rats to access roofs is by climbing trees and crawling across overhanging branches. If you have this problem, trim your branches back and don’t allow any tree or bush extensions to be within three feet of your walls or roof. Employ baited snap traps along the fences, trellises and tree branches of your property to further prevent these rodents from getting into your property. Use wire to secure traps to branches, rafters and roof pipes, if need be.
This black and orange trap by Good Nature New Zealand is quite common in the market. Claiming it controlled cockroaches, my mother used to seed the underside of the house with ‘daddy long-legs’ from our previous house (we were military and moved a lot, often into less than desirable housing). Other than Alabama… she was right. I’ve tolerated a lot of spiderwebs over the years and only ever had cockroaches in apartments that were routinely sprayed. If these ultrasonics drive away spiders as some claim…watch out.

The key rule for using snap traps effectively is to use enough traps in the right locations so that the mice cannot be missed. For a light infestation of 1 to 2 mice in a residential kitchen, 6 traps is about right. This includes 2 behind the stove, 2 behind the refrigerator, and 2 behind the kitchen sink.

Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.

This is the classical, vintage Snap trap design that has been in existence for over a hundred years. However, its wooden and metal design makes it compact and easy to deploy in confined places. Since you actually see your results, you’ll have visible proof that the mice have been eliminated.
Rats are neophobic – they are incredulous to new objects. So to dupe them – leave the trap unplugged for few days. Let them get acquainted and feed here. And only in 2-3 days activate a killing rat trap – they will come to have a lunch as usual… but it will be their last repast.
Part of my journey to a hipper lifestyle has meant trying to cut petroleum products out of my life. This includes all of our craft products. Glue is the first on that list since most glues (including Elmer’s) is made with synthetic petroleum products. Growing up, all of my glue came from an Elmer’s bottle or stick. It was easy to go to the store to purchase whatever we needed for our crafts, so I really had no idea just how easy making your own glue can be. Many of the ingredients used below, have been used in arts and crafts for centuries, and can also be used for many other projects, including making your own paints, watercolors, inks, and more!
To address such a situation, you may want to consider a Baiting Station instead of a trap. That way – hopefully – mice won’t die on premises, and you don’t have to worry about disposing of dead mice upon your return home.
Water is the main threat of such devices. Only Rodent Terminator Trap of all other traps described is claimed to be water-resistant, although you never know for sure. Any moisture inside the gadget will lead to problems, so either you shouldn’t use it outdoors at all or you should cover it securely (with a case or place it inside a waterproof container). The same applies to changes in temperature: in extreme heat or cold, the tap should theoretically work, but the battery will discharge very quickly. So you can go for it, if you are ready for spending additional money on batteries.
I purchased the electronic pest repeller and plugged it in. Later in the day I saw a roach, grabbed the electronic pest repeller out of the wall socket and smashed the roach with it. The roach was deffinately dead. The device was 100% effective, and the easy storage in electrical outlets makes it handy. I’m going to purchase one for every outlet in this roach hell hotel.
It runs on 4C batteries that offer up to 50 cycles or 50 rats and comes with a zero escape patented design. The smart device automatically resets itself after a kill and is easy to carry since it weighs about 15.2 ounces.

After reading many interesting comments, thought I should share my experience. I have used two bigger ultrasonic pest repellent units (Black & Decker EP1100-A) for last ten plus years for rodents and similar larger pests – One in backyard and one in garage; and didn’t have a single rodent or similar pest anywhere near the house. I don’t have anything to prove the cause and effect relationship, but we do think it works, at least for larger pests. We also have a few smaller pluggable units inside house and never had a single cockroach in the house.
Are you using rat traps or mouse traps? Make sure they are rat traps. In addition use more traps and different types of traps e.g. glue traps. Use different bait, in some traps use food and others nesting material.
Atkinson’s device was made with a weight-activated treadle as the tripping mechanism for a rodent’s successful capture. It was capable of slamming shut in 1/38,000th of a second, a record that has never been beaten by any other snap trap. Atkinson sold his mousetrap patent in 1913 for one thousand pounds to Procter, a company that has been manufacturing the the device ever since.
There are many traps on the market that promise to help homes rid their rat problem. Perhaps no trap is as good as the Tomcat Rat Snap. This black, boxy trap is unlike any other out there. Made by the Made by Motomco Company, they have designed a whole line of rodent prevention products to suit both business and commercial applications. This trap is just one part of a larger series for those who have a serious infestation problem. Of course, no mouse traps will be needed if you can prevent mice from entering your home. Sealing your house’s entry points from rodent infestation can prevent rodents from bringing debris and disease and fecal matter into your home. This is especially important as weather turns colder throughout fall and rodents look for warmer residences.
