So if you’re looking for a quick and safe way of killing them, you need a trap which will stop their heart – permanently.   It may sound “heartless” – but isn’t it better than your chickens getting ill?
The Raticator Electronic Rat Trap works extremely well and can safely be used indoors around children and pets.  It’s our #1 pick for indoor rat and mice control, and the only trap that kills both mice and large rats.
No doubt, the best way to catch a canny rat with a sticky trap is by putting some bait – bacon or peanut butter – inside a circle of the trap. Rats will have to cross the tape to get the food and will be caught.
Our friend has told us about his trying to catch rats with the help of an ordinary snap trap. Once he saw how two rats were stealing the bait from the trap. One rat raised the trap’s cross-bar with the help of its teeth and returned it back after its rat-friend pulled out the bait. Rats are so cunning and adaptable that it is very hard to get rid of them. By their ability to survive, they can be compared only with cockroaches. That is why electronic traps, which kill rats by electric shock immediately, have become the best solution for many people.
Mice are crafty little creatures. They may try to sneak away with the bait before getting caught. They will communicate with each other, share tips, tricks, and tactics for stealing bait from the mouth of the trap without ever getting caught.

At a very reasonable price, you will get 4 traps which are made of fully galvanized metal. Each of them can be reused for a long time. It kills the rodent quickly once it triggers the pedal, so it’s an effective humane rat trap for killing rodents.
Old medications are odor-free for the most part. Dump a handful of random pills into the water and you’ll overload their system. Just remember! Don’t use vitamins. Once you have caught the mouse/mice, empty the bucket into the toilet and flush. This method uses two problems to solve each other. How to get rid of unused, or expired, medications and mice at the same time. Flush!
Snap Rat Trap: Everybody knows well these simple type of traps because our parents and granddads were forced to use them as there were no other traps on the market. The principle is simple: Change in pressure causes the bait and let it spring metal rod to snap a rat. In most cases, it only catches not kill a rodent. Snap traps might be wooden, plastic or metal. Be sure to keep your hands safe and from any sharp parts or spring-loaded trap mechanisms to save yourself from any injuries! The cheapest wooden snap rat trap you can buy from $2. But #1 Best Seller in Pest Control Traps is a polystyrene and steel Snap-E Mouse Trap (6 Pack) for ~$11.
The best rat traps are those that kill upon snapping — no suffocation or prolonged pain and suffering. The types of traps that achieve this include snap traps, electric traps and zapper traps. If the problem is indoors and you don’t like the sight of rat corpses, use the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap or Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap, which work cleanly and discretely. If the rats are confined to your backyard, set up the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap along your outer walls and fences.
I find a splash of Pine Sol to be helpful with dead critter stink. Don’t know if it will deter the buggers from coming to the bait, but it probably won’t, in itself, kill anything else that comes along. Bec is right, ethylene glycol is highly toxic . . . but attracts animals due to its sweet taste. Don’t wan’t to kill the birds and bees and dogs and deer . . . just the rats.
These little rodents need nothing more than a quarter inch opening (absolutely anywhere) to gain access to a building or home. On top of that, these little creatures can live inside walls. They may use the interior of your home as a base of operations for midnight raids into your kitchen, bedroom, or pantry.
Exclusion is an important rodent control technique. It will get rid of the rats by making it difficult for them to enter the home or structure. Rats are easier to exclude than mice because rats a typically larger. Mice can enter an opening as small as 3/8″ wide. All openings greater that 1/4″ should be sealed to exclude mice. For rats, all openings greater that 1/2″ should be sealed.
Hopefully you can use the information below to select the best mouse trap bait for the mice currently invading your home. You will also learn some tricks to use the bait effectively when you come across those few little guys that like to steal your bait without setting off the trap.

Wow it is like openning the floodgates. My daughter’s partner just rang me for advice as they have rats, my telephone lines were down, the guy from telstra said caused by mice, but it might have been rats. Have to go to Wangarra to get more poison. Will try the sachets this time. No I will not kill a rat in a trap but I found some baby rats in an old pot behind the shed, well … hope they will be reborn as a tree or tomatoe.
If you don’t get a good look at the rodent, you may have problems identifying it or them. This is where a “rodent camera trap” can be very useful. A camera trap will capture your rats on video. They are easy to use and relatively inexpensive. Click the link above to read more about them.
For the best chances of catching a rat in the trap, keep the bait small and centered on the trap. If you bait a trap with a dangling piece of shrimp, for instance, a rat could nab it by the tip, set off the trap harmlessly and feast on its treat elsewhere.

Had mice in a customer’s attic that kept evading me. A co-worker suggested these and they worked like a charm. I used rubber gloves to bait and set traps with peanut butter. Killed mice instantly and humanely with no mess.
Thirty minutes later I flip the light switch on with my neck hair bristled. It looked like a murder scene minus the white chalk outline. Finally, Ratzilla was dead. I’ll spare you the bloody shots. No, this is not the bloody shot below. He measured over 15 inches from nose to tip of the tail.
The Advantek Multi-Animal Catch & Release Rodent Trap has no moving parts. Just bait and place the trap in an area with known rat activity. A hinged door on the bottom allows humane release. Read Full Review
According to customers’ reviews, Raticator know how to kill gophers too. But what about rats’ capture? Some customers are happy:  “GOT THIS IN TONIGHT and 2 hours later… BAM! Dumped him out, refilled with dry dog food, and 30 minutes later… BAM! Repeated the process and in less than an hour… BAM! A huge rat. Repeated the process. It’s now 12:30 AM and I’m waiting for another kill!”. Make your conclusions about its efficiency yourself.
Anytime you have a rat on your property, you will want to get it off as soon as possible. Rats can cause all sorts of damage, such as chewing on wires and furniture or even spread disease. Because of this, the sooner you catch and remove the rats, the better. When it comes time to trap the rats, it is common to wonder which bait is the best option since every animal is interested in different foods. While bait may make a difference, you will find out that other factors are actually even more important.
At last, the homemade rat trap from bottle can be placed in an infested area. In addition, the caught rat won’t be able to escape once it comes in because the toothpick prevents the barbwire door from swinging outward.
Designed for indoor use or anywhere it’s not exposed to outdoor elements, the reusable Victor Electronic Rat Trap provides years of effective rat control—perfect for attics, garages, basements, and sheds. The trap does not use any poisons or chemicals, but as with any electronic device, it should be used with caution around children and pets.
I put a little peanut butter in the removable tray that unscrews from bottom, put it in the backyard where the dog can’t reach it, and it catches a rat. It’s caught many rats and seems to be going strong. The trap is set by pushing down on the lever on the back of the trap, it locks open automatically, and is very easy and safe to maneuver even when the trap is set. You can remove the rat very similarly. Pick it up on the end away from the rat, lock it open and jiggle over the trash until the rat falls out. You never have to reach into the jaws to add bait since the bait tray unscrews from the bottom.

The problem I’m having is that in my garden where there is lots of good food, why would the rats want to go inside the Rat Zapper? That’s why I’m here. Everywhere outside the garden area I catch rats and mice every night. It looks like tonight I’ll put some peanut butter in the traps and see if I can start getting them in the garden. (BTW – I have 8 of the Rat Zappers.)
About 7 years ago we moved into an open space area with a mile to the nearest neighbors. Trapped 6-8 rats/day for a couple months clearing the property. Victor traps tend to go off in your hands and the wood gets messy quickly after a kill. Found a better mouse/rat trap invented at Bell Labs of all places called Big Snap E. High impact plastic, very cleanable and reusable. Has bait well for peanut butter. Never snaps on you when you set it so your nerves dont get frayed. Easy to find on Internet but varies considerably in price from seller to seller. At present less than $5 many places on net. Victor now makes a look-alike trap but they don’t seem to work as well.
This type of trap is made using a special adhesive applied to the board, cardboard or plastic tray. Glue is applied to the center of the trap: it often has a flavor pleasant to the rats. It’s not recommended to put traps outside because of natural conditions (humidity, dust), which quickly bring glue into disrepair. Catching rats on such sticky tape is very convenient.
I have found a much better bait than peanut butter . . . Tootsie Rolls. Just moisten them in your mouth and place a portion on the trap. You will catch several mice/rats before you need to add more bait. Give this a try.
Hoont™ Electronic Rodent Trap costs ~$58.99. The trap is supplied in two pieces which are supposed to be assembled. The idea of its functioning is the same as for any other trap: the rodents are electrocuted once they touch metal plates covering the entire floor of the trap. The trap also has an indicator which gives either a red flash (this happens when a rodent is inside, don’t touch anything if you don’t want to get electrocuted!) or a green one (when the rodent is finally dead). There is also a sound signal available.

Once a rat has been caught, a red light flashes. Then, you empty the rat into a sealable plastic bag, re-bait and place the Zapper back in the rat’s path for another kill. The Zapper kills rats instantly with a powerful 8,000-volt zap. Clean and easy, you never have to touch the rat itself. The Zapper handles all the dirty work.
It produces no mess. There will be no blood, just a dead rodent. For cleaning it, you don’t even have to touch it. Just pick the device, and slide the dead animal into the trash can, and set the trap for the next killing. This device kills more than 90% animals which enter it.
Glue traps are completely indiscriminate. PETA fields calls on a regular basis from distraught individuals who have discovered birds, lizards, snakes, bats, chipmunks, squirrels, and even their own animal companions hopelessly stuck to these sticky boards.
A: Try to use the least amount of bait possible in any style mouse trap used.  The more bait you use, the easier it is for rodents to remove it without disturbing the traps. The goal is to have them apply extra force to the trigger pedal with their nose/tongue to remove the bait.  To do this press a small amount of bait into the bait pedal.
A: TOMCAT has bait stations that are Kid & Dog Resistant. They have been proven resistant to tampering by children and dogs. However, as with all poisons, care should be taken to keep them away from children, pets, and wildlife. All bait refills should be stored in areas that dogs cannot access.
Rat zappers consist of an electrified tunnel that electrocutes the rat when it takes the bait. You don’t have to see the dead rat, and you don’t have to touch the dead rat. Just empty the rat zapper into the garbage when the catch light is blinking. (Don’t throw the zapper away.) There are no chemicals, no poisons, and the electric trap can catch several dozen rats before it needs new batteries or a fresh charge. You place rat zappers in the same places you place spring traps, but out of reach of children or pets who might want to see what is inside.

As you know, rats live in groups and prefer to live next to people to find food and a safe home, especially in highly populated areas. Rats can eat your food, lead to severe injury, and transmit diseases. Let’s talk how you can make a rat trap.
Place trap facing wall where you see rat activity. Press set-arm with your foot or hand. You will hear a ‘click’ when set. Bait well should be placed perpendicular to the wall with the bait facing wall. Target areas with high rat activity where smudge marks or droppings are discovered. Place traps at 5-10 feet intervals.
I find the cheaper baits from supermarkets do not work, I mean the blasted vermin do not touch them. I use the grain baits from Nights and sons (local farm suplier). We buy 2kg tins @ $40. The price has not changed for a number of years. I will verify it as we need to buy another one.
For rat trap DIY, you will need a piece of metal plate, a small cage rat trap, jumper cables and a 12V battery. Cage rat traps are commercially available nowadays. They simply catch rodents that enter our homes. Connecting cages to batteries allows to kill the pests immediately.
Place the bottle in an area where rat infestation has occurred. Position the bottle so the opening is an entrance. The rat can not escape once it enters because the toothpick prevents the barbwire from swinging outward.
A live rat trap can be a very effective tool for removing rats from your home or business, if the proper steps and precautions are taken. Baiting your rat trap is just one of these steps – learn more by reading How to Trap a Rat »

Using rat attractants or lures in small amounts attract rats, but in large amounts they repel rats. Most rat attractants are synthetic versions of “rat breath odor” that rats use to signal the safety of a food supply. Using too much of the rat attractant—or using commercial rat bait that has been allowed to dry out—will chase rats away from traps. You can learn more about rat poisons by reading this article The Top 3 Rat and Mouse Poison Baits.
The Victor® Easy Set® Mouse Traps can be used anywhere in the home. Place traps several feet apart along any wall where you’ve seen or suspect rodent activity. Easy Set traps don’t use chemicals or poisons, so they’re ideal for use around children and pets—but please use caution.
A live trap catches the animal without actually killing it. Live traps usually take the form of metal cages that are also designed to leverage bait attractants. When the animal takes the bait, the bait mechanism triggers the cage’s entry point to close, trapping the rat for safe transport away from the property. Glue traps are a bit safer to use than snap traps and they make use of non-poisonous, sticky glue spread over panels of cardboard to keep the animal from escaping. It is important to check glue traps often when humane disposal is a priority. This prevents the rat from starving to death on the trap and the animal can be taken to another location for safe release without having to kill it.
Victor® Electronic Rat Trap The Victor® Electronic Rat Trap is the ultimate in rodent control. It works by delivering a humane, high-voltage shock to kill rats that enter the chamber. This powerful device is capable of killing up to 50 rats per set of fully charged batteries (4 “C” included for each trap), making it a great value when you’re dealing with a sizable infestation. It’s also easy to use! To get started, simply apply a high protein bait in the provided bait cup, place the trap in a location with high rodent activity and turn it on.
One of the best ways to deal with a rat infestation is to trap them out. Unfortunately, rats are very intelligent and they learn quickly. If one rat sees another get trapped, it will never venture near that trap again, so you may have to employ each and every type on this list to fully take care of the problem. Unless you are dealing with one or two rats that have just entered your living space, the chances are that only one type of trap is not going to solve the problem. That said, the rat traps on this list were selected because they are the easiest to set and place, easy to empty and are highly effective.
A: Many of the Tomcat mechanical traps feature a bait cup that lets you bait the trap with an attractant. Similarly, an attractant can be used on the triggers of those that do not have a bait cup like TOMCAT Wood Rat and Mouse Traps. Attractants, such as TOMCAT Mouse Attractant Gel, improve rodent captures. Because rats are neophobic (afraid of new things), they may initially be reluctant to run through the trap. Baiting with an attractant may help entice them into the trap.
Live traps are generally larger than standard snap traps.  The larger trap size can be more of an issue to the rat and can create “trap shyness”.  Live rat traps also create another problem – the rat is alive when captured.   The rat has to then be relocated far enough away that it can’t find it’s way back.  That usually means a trip in the car or truck to let it go somewhere.
Let’s start with the principle of operation. Raticator Max e-trap uses infrared detection so it will activate only when a rodent is inside the trap. No peanut or other bait blocking again! Also, Raticator Max Trap is heavy enough with the batteries installed so the trap will not be moved by rats.
Even though no one truly knows the origin of the black rat, the earliest traces of human co-habitation come from Southeast Asia, although there are fossils of the black rat from prehistoric times in Europe. Needless to say, this symbiotic relationship between rats and humans happened early on, and the species has become so specialized, many scientists speculate that if the human population ever died out, black rats would go extinct too.
You can use victor brand traps, their performance is satisfying enough and they prove good value for money, as mentioned above. You can also test a rodent terminator trap which costs about $40 (not much cheaper than victor trap); its effectiveness is nearly the same. As for the expensive one, you can invest into Raticator Max. This trap uses infrared detection, i.e. it is only activated once the rodent is inside. You can also use live rat traps which are suitable for those who are not in favor of lethal methods.
Wi-Fi-Capability Gives the Power to Monitor from Anywhere The compatible app distinguishes the Smart-Kill™ trap from other electronic traps by simplifying your pest control routine. It’s quick to set up and pair with your trap, and allows you to give unique names to your traps so you can easily identify them. Not only will the convenient app notify you of a catch, but it will also keep track of the total kills over the trap’s lifetime as well as monitor battery life.

PETA often fields calls from people who have discovered small “nontarget” animals hopelessly trapped on these sticky boards. One distraught woman found a glue trap with a bird, two frogs, and a salamander stuck to its surface. All the animals were still alive when she found them but died later, despite her efforts to free them.
Rats tend to be wary of new objects, so they will need a good reason to enter your live trap. Baiting a trap includes two critical elements: selecting a bait and carefully positioning the bait inside the trap. Learn more about recommended baits and placement below.
Move the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the end under the yellow pedal. Please take note to the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easily. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side but will trip very easily.
After my encounters with the mouse who had gotten stuck in our glue trap, I wasn’t able to sleep for several nights without the paranoia that every little sound I heard was made by a small suffering mouse.
The Victor Metal Pedal Rat Trap is proven by over 100 years of use. Easy to set, easy to bait with a success rate that is second to none. Inexpensive enough to dispose of the entire trap, rat and all.
Some people prefer to choose rat exterminator companies when they have to deal with rat infestation. However, not everyone can afford this option. Buying special traps is often the way out. You can choose snap traps with effective trigger system or purchase live and electronic traps for safe and humane rat control. It’s up to you what choose.
Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.

Wonder how to get rid of canny rats in your yard or interiors? Now you can effectively keep rats at bay with the help of traps. Whether you are after snap traps or are looking for electronic rat traps, you can find just what you are searching for in this article.
So what is the best location for the trap? As far as pesky rats prefer travelling along wires and walls and tend to use the same pathways, the best place for the trap – lethal or humane – is against a closest-to-the-damage wall.
The Tomcat Rat Snap Trap sets easily in one motion with your hand or foot. Proven effective, the trap has patented interlocking teeth making it virtually impossible for rats to escape. Rats that regularly find their way to our dwellings are indeed annoying and nasty pests. Unfortunately, they can surmount all the hurdles and gnaw through everything to get into seemingly impenetrable, hard-to-reach places. Moreover, they transfer serious diseases, attack humans and pets, contaminate food and make a mess. Rat control measures involve traditional and modern methods of extermination, such as sealing up the homes, using rat predators, snap traps, poisonous baits, rat zappers, glue boards and others. In all cases, the best option is to start from the removal of mess (where they find their shelter), water and food sources. You can purchase different types of snap traps or make your own homemade rat trap to get rid of coming pests.
Be sure to position the snap trap so that the baited end of each trap is placed perpendicular to the wall. Rodents generally travel with their bodies against a wall for protection.  It may be necessary to bait a rat trap without setting the trap and allow the bait to be eaten a couple of times. Then set the trap with more bait. Rats tend to shy away from new objects so this method gets them accustomed to the trap.  Mice are more inquisitive than rats, so pre-baiting is less likely to be needed.

Ideal if you don’t wish to deal with the disposal of dead mice and rodents. This model is designed to be reused multiple times for years. It can be opened, and refilled with bait periodically. Its pet-safe design means pets (and kids) won’t easily access the bait.
It’s just as important to check live traps as it is to check lethal traps. Leaving a rat in a live trap for a long period of time can be potentially deadly, especially in very hot or cold climates where the rat is vulnerable to exposure.

It runs on 4C batteries that offer up to 50 cycles or 50 rats and comes with a zero escape patented design. The smart device automatically resets itself after a kill and is easy to carry since it weighs about 15.2 ounces.
If you see one, there is usually more. And they don’t leave on their own accord. I reset the trap after 11 o’clock that night – way past my bed time. Checked the next morning and one of his girlfriends couldn’t resist the cheese. Disposed of her and reset. You guessed it, caught another one! Three dead rats.
Live traps are a variation of the common wire cage with a trap door. Most live rat traps can also be used for other small rodents and animals like weasels, chipmunks, gophers and similar-sized creatures. Once the rat is caught, you can release it into an area away from your home or business, or you can dispose of it manually in a humane way.
Victor Rat Trap (Electronic) – electronic product that kills rats in moments. The trap activates when a rodent touches the metal plates. The trap reduces rat escapes and offers a 90% rat kill rate. It is recommended to bait this electronic trap with peanut butter. When the critter is in the trap a green indicator gives signal for up to 24 hours.
When you are dealing with a lot of rats like you will get with a typical attic infestation then it is better to set out about a dozen traps at once.  If you only set out one or two traps then the remaining rats will figure out that something is going on and become very cautious.
Caught the chipmunk outsmarting the wooden snap traps for the last two weeks in about 15 minutes. I think it figured out it could flip the snap traps over and trip them then eat the bait (peanut butter). Baited this trap with a pinch of birdseed. Trap set easy and the release takes very very little force. Heavy spring snaps these jaws shut with authority.

IT WORKS you have to know how to work it, the first night I just placed the trap in a corner and they moved it, the next day I put the trap under the leg of a small table so they couldn’t move it then added a piece of cookie topped with PEANUT BUTTER in the center as shown in the picture and they were caught happy hunting!
This set up is genius on paper. It would allow me to catch multiple varmints without having to re-bait or reset the trap. Set it and forget. But in real life, you’re going to need a bigger bucket – or smaller rats.
This black and orange trap by Good Nature New Zealand is quite common in the market. Consumers love its automatic nature that resets the trap after every kill, and you no longer have to keep a close eye on the trap. They also love the electronic counter that shows the number of rats killed as well as the toxic-free nature that makes it safe for pets and children. It measures 8.5 x 6 x 3 inches, weighs 1.4 pounds, and has a canister with a capacity of killing up to 24 rats.
If you must place a trap parallel to a wall, place it toe-to-toe with another trap facing the opposite direction. This will make it easier to catch a rat coming from either direction. Otherwise, keep your traps spaced at least 15 feet apart from one another.

Read and follow all directions and safety precautions. The clamping force from the spring is very powerful. Combined with the tough, interlocking plastic jaws, the snapping force generated is more than enough to fracture the maxilla and mandible of 6-8lbs rats in my area. The interlocking jaw are strong enough to trap rats whose arms/ legs triggered the trap. Very easy and safe to release dead rodent and set for a new one. Bait application and installation is very convenient. The trigger is very sensitive. Would have preferred if the bait and the bait hole on the trigger tongue were located about .5″ deeper in the trap to ensure a head/neck trap for bigger rats. A shorter trigger tongue could also facilitate this. Other than that, I hope this trap does not get discontinued. I mounted some in my fruit trees (mangoes) for rats. The next morning I discovered two huge rats that were killed on first night of use. Peanut butter, as recommended, is the best bait. Extremely pleased with this product.

Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. Trapper T-Rex Rat Snap Trap –  The Trapper T-Rex Rat trap works very well at capturing rats while not being of any immediate danger to older children or pets. If they happen to trip the trap, it generally scares them while not doing any real damage to tiny fingers.
The Nooski Rat Trap is extremely effective at killing rats. It’s also extremely effective at causing anger and disgust at the way the rat dies.  It is however, a much cleaner and easier way of killing rats.  Like the Raticator, it uses a lure such as dog food or cat food.
When baiting for rats, the distance between placements should 15 to 30 feet apart depending on the foraging range. Heavy or severe infestations may require closer spacing. The amount of bait per placement should be determined by following the rodenticide label.
The only long-term way to control rodent populations is to make the area unattractive or inaccessible to them. Eliminate their food sources by keeping counter surfaces, floors, and cabinets clean, and store dry food and pet food in chew-proof containers. Seal trash cans (use bungee cords on lids), never feed companion animals outside, pick up fallen fruit and vegetables in orchards and gardens if possible, and never feed wildlife. Reduce hiding places by keeping grass and vegetation trimmed back and outdoor furniture, grills and barbecues, and wood piles away from buildings.

Placed four traps in our laundry room along a wall as instructed. First night, no action, just “evidence” that the traps had been visited. Second evening, BAM, killed three mice in less than six hours. I think the instructions on the package should have been a bit more detailed. I checked the website to make sure I was setting things up correctly.
Glue traps are popular because of their low profile. They may be placed flush against the cabinet or wall, where pesky rats like to travel. Making an effective sticky trap cuts down on your rat control costs and provides you with a safe alternative to chemicals and poisons.

Norway rats are larger than the smaller, and sleeker Roof Rats. Roof rats have bigger ears and a longer tail than the Norway rat. Also, the roof rat has a pointed nose, and they are excellent climbers. Roof Rats inhabit attics, upper stories, and exterior vegetation. Norway rats occupy lower portions of the building and the ground.
Use a hydrogen peroxide topical solution (available at most drug stores) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. If needed, use a wire brush to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. This could accidentally remove all of the protective zinc plating.
Wear heavy gloves to avoid bites. Pour cooking oil on the trap glue at the points where the animal is caught and massage the animal’s skin or fur to work the oil into the glue. You may need to use a lot of oil (but don’t drown the poor animal!) so do this where spilled oil won’t be a problem. It will take a few minutes for the oil massage to work. Once the animal is free, give it a soapy bath to remove the oil (if it’s your pet) or take it to a veterinarian for follow-up care.
Place a trash can beneath the tube. The can should be wide enough to accommodate the falling tube. Place a small pillow, soft cloth, or pad on the bottom of the can to cushion the tube and mouse who will soon be trapped within.

For the best chances of catching a rat in the trap, keep the bait small and centered on the trap. If you bait a trap with a dangling piece of shrimp, for instance, a rat could nab it by the tip, set off the trap harmlessly and feast on its treat elsewhere.
So if you’re looking for a quick and safe way of killing them, you need a trap which will stop their heart – permanently.   It may sound “heartless” – but isn’t it better than your chickens getting ill?
In addition to being cruel, indiscriminate, and unsanitary, glue traps and other lethal methods never work to keep rodents away in the long run, and their use will actually backfire. This is because when animals are killed or otherwise removed, the resultant spike in the food supply causes accelerated breeding among survivors and newcomers—and this means increased populations!
Manufacturers claim that glue boards are safe for use, but there are many safety concerns that don’t come on the label. In some cases, people will try to beat glue-trapped animals  to death with a shovel or stick, as it is nearly impossible to safely or humanely euthanize them. While trapped animals are still alive, anyone handling the glue board risks being bitten by the them

Place the trap in an enticing position. Place it in areas like along a wall or a high-traffic area near a mouse hole. When the mouse enters the bottle to eat the cheese, pull back on the string looped around the skewer sticking out of the bottle’s bottom. The bottle will snap closed on the mouse, trapping it within.
Awesome idea, Just made mine and putting in some of my dog biscuits (something is going for it) and I’m not having any luck with mouse traps. So i thought your idea might be the one to track down the little tacker that is sneaking about in the night. I attached my trap.. Thanks again.
This pulsing red light indicates that either the chamber has been tripped or there is a dead rodent.  98% of the time, a dead rodent is inside.  Simply pick up the entire unit and dispose of the rodent in a trash container or plastic bag and reset the trap.  The dead rodent does not have to be seen or touched.
It runs on 4C batteries that offer up to 50 cycles or 50 rats and comes with a zero escape patented design. The smart device automatically resets itself after a kill and is easy to carry since it weighs about 15.2 ounces.
Eliminating rats from an office building or factory is a much larger mission than trapping rats infesting a home. If multiple floors are seeing signs of rats, you need to learn the root of the problem. They could be accessing these spaces via air vents, basements or even toilets. Once access points are identified, conquer these rodents with a sufficient number of traps.

Cheap, easy, and I don’t fear for my fingers setting them. I set them up in my shed and storage rooms and I have not seen a trap get sprung without an unwanted intruder in it. Tip, I put a dab of peanut butter and then a piece of dog food sticking out of the peanut butter.
While this device is designed to deliver no-blood kills by squeezing the caught mouse hard; that may not always be the result it produces. If the rat is relatively small, this device may invariably cause it to bleed. Additionally, as the snap-back top falls on the mouse, there may be unintended “mess” (e.g. mouse poop) released in the immediate vicinity of the trap.
We apologize for this experience and appreciate the time taken to share this feedback. When baiting the trap, we recommend using a toothpick amount of peanut butter on the back wall of the trap or one or two pieces of dried dog food at the back of the trap. If bait is scattered inside the trap, this may cause a false trigger.
You will physically need to pull back the spring to “load” it, once you have placed the bait on the bait holder, and then carefully set it on rat-runs, or occupied areas where rats are known to travel. They must be checked several times per day, because if one rat sees another rat that has been caught, you’ll never catch another.

Pet Food – If it’s good enough for your dog or cat, it’s good enough for the rats and mice of your neighborhood. They won’t limit themselves to cat and dog food, either. Expect mice and rats to be interested in anything you feed any other animal including grains, seed, hay, fish food and so on.
The best bait for a rat trap could all depend on the species of rat you’re trying to catch. Different species eat different types of food. For instance, black rats are herbivorous creatures, but brown rats are omnivorous by nature.
I bought these traps after having little success with my Have-a-heart trap, I think the mechanism had gotten a little stuck after leaving it outside, meaning that the rats could take the bait without triggering the trap. I received the traps two days after ordering and I appreciated the email with some advice. Not that I needed it; as soon as the package arrived in the morning I baited the four traps, each with a little bit of ripe Manchego, and placed them around the area I suspected the rat(s) were active. I came home in the evening and checked the traps. The three I put in my kitchen were untriggered but, low and behold, the trap in the basement had caught the rat. The trap had crushed its head and must have killed it instantly – the strength of the impact was apparent from the blood splatter. I think it was just the one rat as the other traps remain untriggered and I haven’t seen any evidence of rat activity since. Great product!

If you don’t get a good look at the rodent, you may have problems identifying it or them. This is where a “rodent camera trap” can be very useful. A camera trap will capture your rats on video. They are easy to use and relatively inexpensive. Click the link above to read more about them.
Place the pop can on a hard surface, tab down, and punch a hole through the bottom with hammer and 3/4-inch steel punch. One of the main features that customers appreciate about the Rat Zapper is that you don’t have to handle the pest to dispose of it. Who wants to be nose to nose with a dead rat? All you need to do is simply release the creature into the trash, and you never have to make contact with it. Forget the old glue boards that leave live rodents stuck in your space. The old snap traps also don’t work as well as they should. The Rat Zapper will shine a bright red light to let you know that a rodent has entered the chamber. You simply dispose of the vermin and reset the unit for the next one that passes through.
If you unintentionally trap a small animal that you didn’t intend to trap such as a lizard or snake, it can usually be released from the trap in the same manner. The nature of glue traps is that the more an animal struggles, the more stuck it becomes, so try to keep the animal calm, and keep it from sticking its nose in the glue.
Snap E Mouse Trap is a brilliant product to eliminate your mouse or rodent problem. It has a quick response time meaning that once the rodent has been trapped and caught it cannot escape. The vertical strike bar goes half the distance of the old fashioned wooden mouse traps so it has a much quicker snapping time in order to catch the mouse before it catches the bait. The Snap – E does not allow for stains or odors which is another downfall that the old fashioned wooden traps. The trap has been designed to be simple to use and safe and sanitary for the user and the captured animal so your fingers never touch the rodent, as it is easy to release.
Glue traps never work to keep animals away long-term. The following evening, I entered the kitchen to find the same dirty and disheveled mouse stuck to a new glue trap. Despite my efforts, he wasn’t able to survive the stress of a second entrapment.
Unlike a mouse problem, rats can chew through concrete to get into your home. These traps and systems can capture even the largest rat with ease. Sewer rats can become quite large, up to 10 inches in length and 2 pounds. Not just any trap or system will catch these large vermin; you need something grand.
Nuts — All rodents love nuts, from peanuts and walnuts to almonds and hazelnuts. In fact, just about any nut can serve as ample nourishment for rats and mice. As such, these high-protein energy sources are always a favorite.
Use two traps in the position mentioned above or place them length-wise, end-to-end (red “V’s” on traps pointing towards each other) so that the bait pedal end will be encountered first as mice approach from either direction. For trickier spots like walls, air ducts, and crawl spaces, check out our article here.

Though they may seem practical, mouse glue traps are probably one of the most inhumane ways to catch a mouse. Once the mouse is stuck to the strip, it will remain alive until one of the following happens:
This stuff does work, but only if you handle it like the comnercial manufacturers… they MELT it to deposit it on their glue boards. Don’t bother trying any other method. Get trays ready that you want to use… cheap baking sheets/trays from thrift stores with a half-inch or more rim work great. Melt the whole can over a gas stove burner turned as low as it goes… it takes a while. I don’t know if an electric stove can be turned low enough… you don’t want to burn it. Use a cheap plastic soup ladle that you won’t need for anything else to transfer it to the baking sheets.
At the same time, if mice have invaded a small flat, buying an expensive electronic trap, which undoubtedly has many advantages (described below), but is aimed at long-term use with multiple recharges, is pointless and is unprofitable if you only need to catch two or three rodents.
Terrified rats and mice sometimes scream as they try to escape the glue. Glue traps rip patches of skin, fur, and feathers off the animals’ bodies as they struggle to get away, and many animals even chew off their own legs trying to free themselves.
Hopefully you can use the information below to select the best mouse trap bait for the mice currently invading your home. You will also learn some tricks to use the bait effectively when you come across those few little guys that like to steal your bait without setting off the trap.

Also known as “glue boards” or “glue trays,” sticky glue traps are made of pieces of plastic, cardboard, or fiberboard coated with a strong adhesive designed to trap any animal who wanders across or lands on their surface. Glue traps are among the most inhumane devices on the market today.
Again, this food has a powerful and distinctive odor that attracts rats. An effective way to bait a trap with this food is to tie a small piece of bacon to the trap. This will prevent a rat from quickly snatching the bacon and escaping before the springing trap snares it.
Rats can be annoying by chewing things up, and even frightening for some. However, killing them seems inhumane and traps from the store are expensive. Luckily, a few you can use homemade rat traps that will keep the rat safe from harm, so that it can be released outside where it belongs without the cost of bought traps.

Both of these traps allow for disposal without touching the rat. The SecureKill Rat Trap has a grab tab for easy disposal. For easy clean up, dispose of the trap and the rodent together. If you would prefer to reuse the trap, pinch the trap open and drop the dead rodent in the trash.
The first rat traps were inevitably made by hunters that fashioned snares to catch them with, much like the snares made to catch rabbits, squirrels and other small prey. The Middle Ages brought with it the first spring loaded traps, and variations of these are still in popular use today.
The Nooski Rat Trap is extremely effective at killing rats. It’s also extremely effective at causing anger and disgust at the way the rat dies.  It is however, a much cleaner and easier way of killing rats.  Like the Raticator, it uses a lure such as dog food or cat food.

Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.

You’ve already known that most of scientists agree that there are only two ways to eliminate rats that are truly effective: rat traps and poison rat baits. All poison baits work approximately equally. But different types of rat traps kill rodents differently. The killing of animals is cruelty in any case, but some of rat traps are more humane than others. So let’s examine all the types, select the best trap and clear up which one suits you best.
We are sorry to hear of this experience. This trap has two different settings on the yellow trip pedal : firm and sensitive. When firm is selected, the trap will be easier to set but slightly more difficult to trip. On sensitive, the trap will be more difficult to set but slightly easier to trip. We recommend setting the trap somewhere between these two settings.
At last, the homemade rat trap from bottle can be placed in an infested area. In addition, the caught rat won’t be able to escape once it comes in because the toothpick prevents the barbwire door from swinging outward.

After inspecting the rat infested areas, place the rat glue boards in those areas. Place the glue traps directly in their runways. Rats usually travel along baseboards and walls, since they use the walls for guidance. Place glue traps where there has been rodent activity.

If you plan on using plastic snap traps indoors, it is best to use them in a box with holes cut out on the sides or inside a rodent bait station.  This is purely for safety reasons.  Plastic rat traps are one of the safest and effective traps on the market.  Safe enough in my opinion to use around older children and pets.

The Hoont trap even has ventilation. All in all, the design is thought through down to the tiniest detail. Does it kill rats and mice, though? We’ll turn to the customer feedback for the answer. Within 6 months after the launch, more than 400 reviews have been written on Amazon.com. This is a bit strange for a new product. All of the customers are either satisfied with the device or try to prove its uselessness.

Thank you for this – after reading comments on how people have had mice accidentally die some pretty nasty deaths on no kill traps I couldn;t bring myself to buy one so opted for researching making one myself. This is fab thank you. 🙂 x
Place the tall trash can, without anything in it except maybe some towels to pad the rats fall, directly below the ruler. The idea is that the rat will go out on the ruler, following his nose, to the treat. The weight will then send both ruler and rat into the trashcan below, where he will ideally not be able to climb out until you come home. If the trashcan isn’t completely smooth on the inside, you may decide to grease the tops of the can so that the rat will not be able to climb out.
Melted, it has the consistency of latex paint, and solidifies quickly as it is poured on the cardboard squares I chose to use. It doesn’t lose it’s “stickiness”, and is way more economical than buying individual traps. However, I’m not going to pay $90+ per gallon. Hope this helps.
High-Voltage Shock Humanely Kills Rodents This powerful device works by delivering a humane, high-voltage shock to effectively eliminate rat invaders, and is capable of eliminating up to 50 rats per set of fully charged batteries (4 C-cells). Plus, with this trap, there’s no need for poisons or chemicals, allowing it to be used anywhere inside your home or business.
Once crimped, insert the wire into both holes. You will need to bend the second side of the wire to get it in the hole. Just straighten the wire after it’s through the hole. Center the can over the bucket opening and bend the spare wire on the outside of the bucket around the bucket rim to keep the can centered over the bucket.
These traps don’t require the need for any chemicals or poisons. They can be used without fear around children and pets. This trap has a 4-way trigger that is effective in instant rodent control. They allow a clean and quick trapping system that is ideal for keeping rodents under control. This trap has been rated #1 in the world. They are the professional trap of choice.
There’s a field behind my house and we sometimes get mice inside during winter. This year I’m not so sure. We’ve heard noises in wall cavities for several weeks but have not caught a glimpse or found droppings. I think I know where they’re coming in and have blocked it. I put out 3 humane traps using peanut butter&chocolate but nothing taken. I can’t find any disturbance to food in cupboards or any packages of food left out. I’ve now put a few things down to see what they might take for bait. They have taken some nuts and a small chicken bone (I heard them drop it on the floor), but have not eaten the porridge oats. I usually see the mice and their droppings. Is it rats?
Exclusion is an important rodent control technique. It will get rid of the rats by making it difficult for them to enter the home or structure. Rats are easier to exclude than mice because rats a typically larger. Mice can enter an opening as small as 3/8″ wide. All openings greater that 1/4″ should be sealed to exclude mice. For rats, all openings greater that 1/2″ should be sealed.

When the electronic PestNoMore Zapper makes a kill, both its notification light and alarm will alert you to the catch, making this a decent alternative to more traditional snapping, poison, and glue-based options. However, it’s definitely on the expensive side.

I worry it might be female and have nest there too. I have LOTS of yarn and need to catch the sucker before I go in to check all the yarn. Can’t imagine to be there with live critter. I even packed towel under the door so he can’t get out.
Even though rats have tiny heads, they are not as naive as people often assume. A rat will be suspicious of new objects in its environment. This applies to rat traps, which could fail to lure prey if placed cold turkey out in the open.
Along with that, you need to be careful while setting up these traps because they may hurt you. After setting them, these should be placed at some place where children or pets can’t reach because if they accidently touch them it can cause injury to them.
If you encounter an animal who is stuck to a glue trap, place a few drops of cooking oil or baby oil in between the glue and the animal, and gently work the animal free. Be sure to keep oil use to a minimum, otherwise oiled animals can perish from exposure later on. While removing the animal from the glue, slide tissue or paper underneath freed body parts to prevent them from getting re-stuck. Once free, active and alert rodents can be released outdoors during good weather within a one-block radius of where they were discovered. Lethargic or imperiled animals, or animals caught during extreme weather, should be rushed to a local veterinarian or wildlife rehabilitator or call PETA for guidance.
Live Catch Rat Trap Indoor Use: No, not unless used in attics or crawl spaces.  If used in these areas, be sure to check trap daily to make sure that any trapped animal has food and water.  Never leave trapped animals in a hot attic in the summer.
I grew up in the Midwest, and every so often little mice from a neighboring field would occasionally find their way into our home and set up shop. On one such occasion, we picked up a package of glue traps from the local hardware store and set them out around the house. Back then, I didn’t realize just how horrifying a little glue trap could be.
If you reach a level of desperation like I did, I can tell you that this is worth the money and having faith. I thought it was buggy and was planning to return, esp. with mixed reviews and no luck the first night… then, well, look at the photo!!! 😀

Is it rats?
We apologize for this experience and appreciate the time taken to share this feedback. When baiting the trap, we recommend using a toothpick amount of peanut butter on the back wall of the trap or one or two pieces of dried dog food at the back of the trap. If bait is scattered inside the trap, this may cause a false trigger.
Atkinson’s device was made with a weight-activated treadle as the tripping mechanism for a rodent’s successful capture. It was capable of slamming shut in 1/38,000th of a second, a record that has never been beaten by any other snap trap. Atkinson sold his mousetrap patent in 1913 for one thousand pounds to Procter, a company that has been manufacturing the the device ever since.
Rodent infestations can be a real nuisance to any business or homeowner. Rats and mice have a way of multiplying when you least expect them, so the best way to combat the problem is to invest in a reliable trapping mechanism that is capable of taking care of these pests as quickly and as humanely as possible. However, it’s important to realize that these rodents are intelligent creatures that are both aware and suspicious of their surroundings.
Electronic rat traps are one of the best solutions for a no-touch, no-see experience. Victor® electric rat traps deliver high-voltage lethal shocks to eliminate rats in your home. Just one electronic rat trap by Victor® has the power to eliminate a small rodent infestation. An easy indicator light will let you know right away that you have trapped a rat.
Food and animal byproducts — Rodents will even chow down on various non-edibles, such as worn clothes and leather. Simply tasting or smelling like a food is often enough for a hungry rodent to make a test-nibble on such an object. If the taste or smell is strong enough, a desperate rodent will continue with its meal, too.
Terminator Trap costs ~$92.95 (2-pack), but as Amazon customers think, is it worth it (in most cases). But you’d better not to wait for a quick win over rodents and be extremely patient. Rats are smart animals and they don’t like new things. Do you know that they may offer food (include poison baits) to younger rats at first to decide is it worth to eat it? So it may take about a few days for the first rats’ killings.
These are the best rat traps of 2017, and therefore choosing anyone will be a good choice for you. You can pick anything which suits your budget. They are all capable of eliminating rat population from your home.
The best bait for your trap may depend on the species of your rats. In North America, two species are most prevalent: the Norway rat and the roof rat. The Norway rat is usually found at or below ground level in burrows, basements, sewers and dumpsters. The roof rat is usually found higher up – in trees, cliffs, attics and higher levels of a home or warehouse.

Raticator Electronic Rat Trap.  If there ever was a “better mouse trap” then this is it.   The Raticator Rat Trap kills by using an electric current to stop the heart.  This electric current is powered by either AA or C batteries – depending on the trap.  The electric current is very weak but strong enough to cause death to the rodent.  These traps are suitable for indoor use around children and pets, but care should be taken to not let them play with it.
Tons of companies, including  CVS, Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, and Walgreens,  have stopped selling glue traps, and many other businesses have stopped using glue traps after hearing from concerned customers. Unfortunately, some companies still sell these inhumane devices. Whenever you see glue traps for sale, send a polite letter to the store manager. Ask him or her to stop selling the traps and point out the many companies nationwide that have already sworn off glue traps.
We apologize for the experience and would be happy to assist. This trap has both a sensitive and a firm setting. We recommend putting the trap in place on the floor before setting it. Please give our Consumer Relations Team a call at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) for further assistance.

Rodents are creatures of habit—they like to take the same path to and from their nests. So your best bet for catching them is to intercept them as they travel back and forth. Target areas near refrigerators, in pantries, along baseboards, or in attic spaces.
Are your dogs upset? Do you see small tracks and tail trails in dusty areas? Do you see areas where wood has been gnawed? Do you see smears along baseboards and other areas? Is there a heavy musky odor in the house? Can you see rodent droppings?
Each one of the options above has been considered to be some of the best mouse trap bait to catch mice. The mouse bait that you can use to reel in just about any mouse or stop any mouse infestation that you’re dealing with in your home.
But it doesnt end there. They are all over my yard as well and destroying my garden. I didn’t want to resort to something as extreme and cruel as this, but I spend months and months on my vegetable gardens and the only one’s benefitting and eating the delicious veggies are these little f&^rs.
Rats and mice don’t see well, especially when it’s dark, so they follow baseboards, walls, and other straight lines.  When the glue board is placed along a straight line, the rat will usually run into it.  Sometimes they will jump over it, and if that is the case, then using 2 glue boards end to end is the solution.

The Rat Zapper® Classic is equipped with smart-circuit technology that senses when the rodent enters the trap. Once the rodent is inside, the rat steps onto the metal plates, completing the circuit and the trap delivers a quick, humane 8,000 volt shock. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts, the shock is applied for 2 minutes ensuring a high kill rate. Each time the trap catches a rat, the light on top of the trap flashes red to indicate a kill.

Catching rodents on such sticky tapes is very convenient. However it’s not recommended to put sticky traps outside because of humidity, dust or other natural conditions which can lead glue into improper state.
Known for the most innovative rodent control products on the market, Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the only rat trap with a patented 3-plate design to prevent escapes. Easy to use, the trap is simply baited, placed against the wall and turned on. The trap uses advanced smart circuit technology to sense when a rodent enters the units. Once the rodent is inside, the system delivers a humane, high-voltage shock to effectively kill the rat or mouse in seconds. A green indicator light illuminates when a rat has been exterminated and is ready for removal. Rodents can then be dumped directly into the trash for no-touch, no-view mouse control. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts after an electrical shock, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap applies shock for 2 minutes ensuring high kill rates. Additionally, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the only trap that automatically resets after an irregular escape. Safe for use anywhere in the home, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap is ideal for attics, garages, basements, sheds, and kitchens. A lifetime investment, the Electronic Rat Trap is easy to clean and can be reused indefinitely. For effective rat control, one set of 4 ‘C’ batteries will eliminate up to 50 rats, and a red light indicates when batteries need replacing.
Remember: Glue traps cause slow, agonizing deaths for the animals they trap. Never use glue traps, and share this with your family and friends so that they will learn the truth about these vile devices, too. Mice and rats are intelligent, sensitive animals who are just as capable of pain and suffering as the cats and dogs we share our homes with.
Ok this one is really innovative and gets a sucker with the scratch and sniff sticker. The video below shows an empty bottle, bigger than your average 20-ounce soda bottle and square much like a Fiji water bottle, set up as a rat trap. Now the video is set up for a rat which explains the reasoning behind the larger bottle, but I can imagine the trap in a smaller version would work just as fine for mice.
The problem could also manifest in your garage or backyard, in which case it would be helpful to make your property less inviting. This is possible if you tightly seal away garbage, rake leaves away from structures and keep all kindling and firewood stored at least one foot above ground.
Since rats prefer enclosed, safe locations, use Protecta Bait Stations with the T-Rex Snap Traps. These stations will shelter the rat; encouraging it to enter and protect non-targeted animals and children from the harm of the snap trap. The Victor Snap Traps are fine traps, but its height will not fit into bait stations. If this is the case, you can get a cardboard box, cut holes in it and place it over the Victor Snap Trap. This method is not tampered resistant, however.
Ammonia-soaked cotton balls or rags will drive mice and rats out (they hate the smell). Place them in areas where the animals, their droppings, or nests have been seen, and be sure to give them a few days to leave.

Place the bait in the center of a 2-door trap. You can either position the bait directly on the trigger plate or hang it from the top of the trap. Position it away from the trap walls so that it is unreachable from outside of the trap.
Its advanced rodent detection technology ensures that when the rats or other same sized rodents come to eat the bait, they get killed instantly. It’s a highly effective & the best electric rat trap for killing rats, mice, chipmunks, squirrels, and other same sized rodents.

There is no houseguest quite as unwanted as the highly adaptable, grossly destructive, and possibly even dangerous wild rat. Rats have been notable throughout history as carriers of fleas and diseases, as well as unwelcome vermin that will ruin both your food and your house. They can be destructive, disturbing, and even a little scary. This is why it is important to counteract their movements in and around your home with a variety of different rat traps – and peanut butter. Because having a trap means nothing until you have something as alluring as peanut butter. Right?
In addition to being cruel, indiscriminate, and unsanitary, glue traps and other lethal methods never work to keep rodents away in the long run, and their use will actually backfire. This is because when animals are killed or otherwise removed, the resultant spike in the food supply causes accelerated breeding among survivors and newcomers—and this means increased populations!
Unscented dish soap can be added to the hot water. When a bait is not attracting the rodents, we recommend trying other baits. You can make a good homemade trap out of milk bottle. To do this, take a bottle and pour oil on the wall in order to make it slippery. You should also be put inside the bait. Also, you should attach any rail on the bottleneck so the mouse can climb up the bottle. Leave the trap all night. When a mouse finds food, it will climb up the rail and eventually fall into the bottle. But slippery walls will prevent it from getting out. This method is also humane: you can release the mouse outside. But this water bottle homemade rat trap is often too small for large fattened rats.

I came out, walked around the house and nearly stained my drawers. Near my feet I found a younger possum (Not full grown adult) with one of the traps stuck on its snout. This catch caused me some very deep emotional thought. Should I end the life of the disease bag that got stuck in trap, or do I give the little bugger a chance and somehow try to remove the trap? I figured since Ralph (that’s what I’m naming him) wasn’t my intended target, I’d pardon him this one time. With gloves, a big garbage can lid, a long shovel, and all the manliness I could muster, I was able to cover him with the lid and release the trap from his snout using the shovel. I then took a rake and lifted the lid and ran like a child as my new friend meandered under my bushes/deck area. I made an agreement that if he leaves by the next day, he won’t be physically evicted. Thankfully, Ralph left and hopefully he told his friends that my deck area isn’t a good place to hang around.
The Victor® Electronic Rat Trap is easy to set up and operate, and the trap requires no food bait. It also kills up to 50 rats on one set of batteries, and you don’t even have to see or touch the corpse. A flashing light on the device signals when a kill has occurred.
By having these rat traps baited with Provoke Rat Attractant , Pro-Pest Professional Lures, or peanut butter in unset traps, a large population would be use to feeding on around the traps. When the rat traps are then simultaneously set after a while of this “feeding”, a large kill can be obtained.
When you try to get rid of rats in the open air, such as the yard or any other place outside the home, you should choose special waterproof rat trap. Selected rat trap should only kill rats, but does not harm any other wildlife. Remember that rats carry many diseases, such as rabies, and it is important that you eliminate them before they hurt you or your family.
Black rats, which scale trees and enter homes through coin-sized holes in attics, find peanut butter irresistible. Brown rats, which typically rummage through garbage and snake their way inside homes via tiny cracks, can be tempted with a smelly cheese.
Love these mice killers. It’s a bummer the mice are usually still alive and screaming to be freed when you catch them, but they’ll be dead soon enough. I wrap them in a plastic bag and out to the dump with their squirming selves.
To trap Roof Rats, set traps on tree limbs, under vegetation on a backyard fence or trellis, or on other aboveground locations roof rats are known to frequent. Fasten the traps with wire to overhead pipes, rafters and beams.
I had doubts when I bought this trap, but I gave it a shot anyway. I’m dealing with roof rats and wanted something that wasn’t going to make a huge mess up there. The only reason I don’t give this 5 stars is the price, which prevents me from wanting to buy several of them to clear out the roof rats faster.
Attempt to locate “favorite feeding locations” (indicated by a high concentration of rodent signs-droppings, tracks, odors, shredded paper, etc.) and replace existing food sources with bait stations in these locations.
The Raticator Electronic Rat Trap works extremely well and can safely be used indoors around children and pets.  It’s our #1 pick for indoor rat and mice control, and the only trap that kills both mice and large rats.
Hey, I also use victor electronic rat trap. Why? Well, first of all, it is cheaper than hoont and others, which to my mind is the greatest advantage of this trap. Second, it’s effective (which is also another huge plus as with its help we’ve already trapped four rats). In general we are satisfied with this trap. Don’t hesitate to buy it.

The Bell Labs T-Rex comes in a set of four and can be placed alone or in pairs near baseboards, corners, along walls, or in any spaces where rodents are likely to travel. Its bait cup can be removed, refilled, and replaced between settings.
Live Catch Rat Trap Indoor Use: No, not unless used in attics or crawl spaces.  If used in these areas, be sure to check trap daily to make sure that any trapped animal has food and water.  Never leave trapped animals in a hot attic in the summer.
This set up is genius on paper. It would allow me to catch multiple varmints without having to re-bait or reset the trap. Set it and forget. But in real life, you’re going to need a bigger bucket – or smaller rats.
Rats tend to be cautious of new objects in their territory. Pre-bait your trap to get your rat used to it before you set it up for a catch. To pre-bait your trap, tie the trap doors open and place bait inside. Position your trap and wait about a week before setting it up for a catch.

To avoid stolen bait, the bait cup is designed so that it can’t be reached without activating the extremely responsive trigger, this means that even the craftiest of rats can’t avoid springing the jaws!
Peanut butter is generally considered to be the best bait for catching a rat. Despite a pest control myth to the contrary, cheese is not the best bait for rodents. In fact, most rodents, including rats, do not like cheese.

Once the baiting program has begun, do not move bait stations to different locations as rats may react unfavorably to the change and begin avoiding the stations. Bait type and formulation used inside the stations should also remain the same.
We have a mouse running around our house and my husband is having a fit. I have been in medicine for over 25 years and have never seen the black plague or any other mouse, rat disease so I am going for the no kill solution. After all we are the ones that encroached on their space. Thanks for the ideas!!
Garbage, one time use, piece of junk. Victor used to make great products, but this plastic lever is junk. Don’t waste your money on this one time use trap. Victor should go back to the metal lever instead of scamming people.
Terrified rats and mice sometimes scream as they try to escape the glue. Glue traps rip patches of skin, fur, and feathers off the animals’ bodies as they struggle to get away, and many animals even chew off their own legs trying to free themselves.

So, this unit can really trap a rat. According to the feedback, sometimes it happens very fast: within a day or an hour. Many also like the fact that “it’s easy-peasy” to take care of the trap: all you have to do is shake out a rat’s dead body, disassemble the trap in two parts, wipe it and re-use it!
Of course, no mouse traps will be needed if you can prevent mice from entering your home. Sealing your house’s entry points from rodent infestation can prevent rodents from bringing debris and disease and fecal matter into your home. This is especially important as weather turns colder throughout fall and rodents look for warmer residences.
But you’d better know that sticky rodent traps are inhumane, because trapped animals usually suffer and cry for many hours before death from dehydration or stress. So we suggest you check your glue traps very often or use other traps.
Unlike a mouse problem, rats can chew through concrete to get into your home. These traps and systems can capture even the largest rat with ease. Sewer rats can become quite large, up to 10 inches in length and 2 pounds. Not just any trap or system will catch these large vermin; you need something grand.

Place rat traps in high-activity areas of the rat colony. These areas may include darkened corners, along walls, behind appliances and objects, and all areas where droppings are evident. Since rats need to touch surfaces as they move, place them accordingly.
When using anticoagulant baits, rodents must feed continuously over several days for the poison to be effective, so these baits must be refreshed often and made constantly available until feeding activity stops.
I don’t know about them being mean, but the real problem is that they are very smart, which is a problem when trying to get rid of them. Like you, I would be happy if I never saw another one, but I prefer humane means to kill them if possible. Years ago I was out in the barn and heard a tiny, high pitched scream. I went to where I had snap traps set and there was a baby rat that had its back broken by the trap; it was screaming in agony. I had to kill it with a hammer. I never want to repeat that!

The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is easy-to-use. Start by inserting four ‘C’ batteries into the battery compartment and replacing the cover. Then, using a Q-tip or toothpick (to avoid leaving your scent), add an enticing rat snack like peanut butter or dry pet food through the hole in the back wall of the trap. Place the rat trap where there are signs of rodent activity. Since rats typically travel along the edge of a room, the trap can also be placed lengthwise along the wall with the bait side closest to the wall. Flip the switch to ‘on’, and it’s good to go—a green light will blink once and a short buzzing sound will be heard to verify it’s working.

These days you can order different traps online. Most homeowners prefer to buy traps from Lowes or Walmart that have a wide variety of effective rat traps for successful rat removal. Fast delivery, low prices and quality service are great benefits of these retailers.
Havahart Live Catch Rat Trap –  Trapping live animals can be tricky.  First – it takes “pre-baiting” in which the trap is wired open so that it can’t close.  Then it requires a careful plan of strategy to “catch” the rat.  Live traps for rats are exactly the same as the larger animal traps for rabbits, skunks and squirrels.  The Havahart Live Catch Rat Trap captures the rat alive so that it can be relocated and released to another area.
Dog poop is not at the top of the list of preferred foods for rats. It may eat it if there is no other food available, but I agree it will have a tendency to encourage them in contrast to repelling them. In addition, dog poop is not very hygenic to have about the place. Have you tried contacting your local authority to see if they have any policies in place relating to this issue?
Because these traps are so economically priced, the trap and the rat can be disposed of. If someone is budget minded, the trap can also be reused. They are meant for a quick and easy disposal and cleanup. Victor makes these units with superior quality and they are safe enough to be placed anywhere in the home. For the most effective setup, place them at 2-3 foot intervals in the most commonly traveled paths. These units are environmentally responsible and budget friendly.
When placing the electronic traps, we recommend removing all other style of traps in the area. Mice will typically try and steal the bait that is most easily accessible and sitting in the open, like on the snap traps, as opposed to venturing inside the electronic traps.

Removing other food or bait sources such as the other traps will likely increase the catch rate in the electronic traps. We hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) for additional assistance.

Within seconds, the rate will lie lifeless inside the trap. It features a tunnel design and a built-in safety switch for added protection to pets and children and runs on 4AA batteries that will eliminate as many as 100 rats or mice before new ones are required.
Glue traps are popular because of their low profile. They may be placed flush against the cabinet or wall, where pesky rats like to travel. Making an effective sticky trap cuts down on your rat control costs and provides you with a safe alternative to chemicals and poisons.
The rat, enticed into the box by a yummy treat at the entrance and smeared on the back wall , steps on a metal plate.  This triggers an electric shock which – as long as the batteries are full or nearly full – kills within a couple of seconds.
I haven’t had much experience with any other non-kill trap, but this one has worked well for me. I have been using it to catch small ground squirrels because of all of the holes they make in my yard and I have been catching about one every other day per trap. The first five died in the trap. I set the traps in the morning (baited with watermelon and unshelled peanuts because that is what I had) and checked them when I got home from work. I wasn’t sure why the first one died (caught Day 1). When the second one (caught Day 2) died I started to think it might be too hot (high around 90?) and they were dying of thirst even though I baited with fruit and the full roof offered at least some shade. I set the traps again and … full review
I have a huge rat problem going on… They are in the crawl space above my kitchen having a grand ol’ time and living quite comfortably. I didnt notice the screen covers on the vents have holes in them and they just climb the stucco to get up there – this was pointed out to me by a pest control inspector. Worst of all there is no way for a person to access this area to get them out, nor poison them and have them die up there, potentially.

It produces no mess. There will be no blood, just a dead rodent. For cleaning it, you don’t even have to touch it. Just pick the device, and slide the dead animal into the trash can, and set the trap for the next killing. This device kills more than 90% animals which enter it.
Electric rat zappers are a handy way to safely kill rodents and there are several different models on the market.  In principle all of these traps work using the same mechanism so the difference between them lies in the details.  Here is a breakdown of the differences between the products along with what I think is the best electric rat zapper.
A lot of people are suspicious of whether home rat traps will really work or not. Anyway, the reality of the situation is that if you make them correctly. Also put them in the right areas of your home where there is high population of rodents. It is sometimes unclear why originally built rodent traps may not work to rid you of rats while homemade ones will work successfully, but it happens.
Glue traps are completely indiscriminate. PETA fields calls on a regular basis from distraught individuals who have discovered birds, lizards, snakes, bats, chipmunks, squirrels, and even their own animal companions hopelessly stuck to these sticky boards.

There are two clever reason why rats travel alongside walls: First, they use their whiskers to sense objects in front of them in the dark. By keeping one set of whiskers touching a wall, they can tell if they are still on the right path. Secondly, traveling along a wall provides protection – they only have to watch for trouble on the open-air side of their path.
When an infestation persists, one of the more effective methods of elimination involves getting rats accustomed to traps before setting them.  To introduce a trap, place it in an active area but don’t set it. Allow rats to feed off this “safe” trap for a day or two. Once the critters have accepted this object as part of their regular turf, bait the trap again, but set it up to snap the next rat that crosses its path.
After a horrible experience with a rat trap I have an aversion to mouse/rat traps so I used live traps – but when a family of rats showed up I had no choice – they had to go, permanently. Thank goodness I discovered the Rat Zapper Traps. I set them out and within 2 days the rats where gone. No fuss – no mess. I will be ordering the larger size in case any other fuzzy friends show up.
Luckily, thanks to modern technology, we have incredible mouse trap solutions available to trap these mice (humanely or otherwise) and dispose of them as we see fit.
This I’ble will show you how to Make, an extremely effective rodent catching device. This trap may also be used for “live captures”. Got a rodent issue? You have come to the right place. Build this free trap and rid yourself of these pests.
Top Tip :  I bought this trap after I’d dealt with quite a bad rat infestation problem in my chicken run.  It takes out one rat at a time, so if you have evidence of a large number of rats you need to get them under control first.  See here for options and further advice.
The most common type of rat trap is the classic snap trap made by Victor.  The trap is so popular because it is cheap and effective.  Victor makes two versions of their classic trap; Standard and Professional.
These traps came recommended for me by a buddy to handle a chipmunk problem I have. Granted the box says they are for rats, he had success with them for his chipmunk issues, so I figured I’d give it a go. I bought two, we put them out by the side of my deck where they run by, and baited them with peanut butter and waited. The next morning I went out to see if I caught any of the little buggers, and to my surprise both traps were missing! My instant reaction was to blame my nosy neighbors, as they are always a bother. I went inside and put my shoes on to further investigate/search for the missing traps.
Additionally, this product will need to be placed away from pets and children because they could easily become victims of its use (however this is something you should think about with all types of traps)
Remove the ruler or makeshift ramp from the can and take the can to a location about five to ten miles from human habitation.[8] Place the can on the ground and turn it sideways, allowing the mouse to exit.

Use the Rat Zapper Classic with peanut butter or even ordinary pet food as bait to attract unwanted pests. Its smart circuit technology with metal plates allows it to deliver a two-minute, 8,000 volt shock to any sorry individual that enters its walls.
Maybe if you just put a thin line of pb around the can, they would have to reach further and spin off the can. That was one big rat. The ones that got into my house were about 10 inches, nose to tail.
A: Remove the small staple holding the locking bar to the wood base. Place bait inside curl found at the end of the bait pedal.  Pull back bow and hold down with thumb. With other hand, engage the curved portion locking bar under the small, V-shaped lip on the bait pedal.
Hopefully you can use the information below to select the best mouse trap bait for the mice currently invading your home. You will also learn some tricks to use the bait effectively when you come across those few little guys that like to steal your bait without setting off the trap.

If you encounter an animal who is stuck to a glue trap, pour a small amount of cooking oil or baby oil onto the stuck areas (avoiding the animal’s nose and mouth) and gently work the animal free. If you cannot free the animal, quickly rush him or her to a veterinarian or wildlife rehabilitator. Sometimes euthanasia performed by a veterinarian is the most humane way to end the trapped animal’s suffering.
This is a great mouse trap. Don’t let haters of this device fool you. Unfortunately, some mice just learn to deal with traps, and that’s that. They are mammals, they can learn, and rodents are pretty sharp. Sucks to be you if you have mice that are too smart for this type of trap, and you will have to put out some kind of poison, more likely than not. This DOES NOT make the device faulty!

To make a homemade rat trap from a bucket, you will also need a box, thin board, long wood plank, water and bait food. Take or buy the buckets of at least two feet in size and fill it half full with cold water.
Consider placing traps out unset for a few days. Rats may be wary of new objects that suddenly appear in the path of their established trails, which can make them reluctant to go for traps even when bait is used. In these cases, you may want to consider leaving your traps out “unset” for a few days so that the rats have a chance to get to get used to them. Then, set the traps and add bait — the rats should approach them without fear, making it much more likely that you’ll successfully catch one.
Place a trash can beneath the tube. The can should be wide enough to accommodate the falling tube. Place a small pillow, soft cloth, or pad on the bottom of the can to cushion the tube and mouse who will soon be trapped within.
Despite bans in Victoria, BC, Australia and New Zealand, most countries, including the United States, have placed no regulations on the use of glue boards. There also is very little consumer education about these products –manufacturers and retailers provide virtually no information to alert purchasers as to the concerns that exist with the use of these devices.
The thought of using a wide-mouth bucket to increase the distance to the bait wheel occurred to me early on in this epic battle. But due to my obsession with destroying Ratzilla’s posse in a timely manner, I had no time to waste. I wanted them dead. Now!

To address such a situation, you may want to consider a Baiting Station instead of a trap. That way – hopefully – mice won’t die on premises, and you don’t have to worry about disposing of dead mice upon your return home.
Is it rats?
Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the yellow pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.

This is the classical, vintage Snap trap design that has been in existence for over a hundred years. However, its wooden and metal design makes it compact and easy to deploy in confined places. Since you actually see your results, you’ll have visible proof that the mice have been eliminated.
When I finally succeeded in my task, a battered and disheveled mouse, with missing clumps of fur, limped off into the night. Many trapped animals end up breaking or chewing off their own limbs in their struggle for freedom.
